Your critiques are amazing and I never realize how good they are until I see what the art was before; but something you might do is point out more often what they’re doing right because it’s beneficial to the viewer. This has less to do with art and more to do with teaching lol
I'm not saying you're wrong but in all the critiques I've been through I just always assumed anything that isn't mentioned implies that I'm doing it right.
13:55 is the first time I like the original better than the paintover! Everything sinix said about the anatomy may be true but there is so much more appeal and life in the original design. Fixing the shadows helped though.
This is probably the most useful kind of art video. As an artist, it's so valuable to have another artist list your top weaknesses, because it focuses your attention on a few things you need to fix. This is the most efficient way to improve your art. Even professionals can benefit from an overpaint.
You're blazing through all these artworks, I thought I was nearing the end of the video and I'm only 8 minutes in. Really enjoying it thus far, very informative too. Thanks Sinix :)
The preference of the art style is what's subjective not the art itself in general, that's quite a widespread modern misconception without an end to it. It's pretty delusional to force yourself to -dislike masterpieces- think masterpieces are poorly done when they are at its peak to be appealing. and it's a ridiculous and unrealistic way of thinking to think that none of the factors matters, there are no reasons for anything to look good. which is painfully wrong, why would people be bothering to practice? if a stickman can be subjectively considered a masterpiece. (I doubt even a man with disabilities would even find it that way.)
The problem with the 17:00 one is that he or she blurred the area were the movements can be confusing so at first you see one arm because you see one form instead of two. The two arms should be distinct at the point where they cross. We could even see distinctly the elbow :) (hope my English is understandable) For the next one, as our eyes tend to read an image left to right, i think it would be way more pleasant for our eyes if you flip the canvas symmetrically bcause of the big white area :)
Your precise and on point critique reminds me of a scientist. It's surprising to see how much knowledge goes into good art... And your tips are amazing, thank you so much!!!
That was incredibly helpful! The variety of examples, varying in mood, style and completion really helped me see the importance of the core principles of value contrast and shape throughout. Subscribed!
I always love seeing these Paint over Pal videos pop up from time to time. They're very educational and easy to understand which inspire me to pick up a paintbrush and get back to creating art. I'm very thankful that you're posting these videos and they make me look back to my older pieces and see how I can improve them. Once agin Thank you
I don't know if you just always post while I struggle with painting because of perfect timing , or if i just struggle so often that it's not hard to upload during those times...
Love watching ur overpaintings! The tips u mention on what to work on and improve is rly helpfull ur tutorials also been a huge help to me thank u very much
Randomly watching some art tip related stuff on a Thursday waiting for Critical Role... Sees a Jester and Caleb fanart. Le gasp! as I point and make a happy squawking noise! Great tips and examples I took many notes. Also I think I liked the more realistic crocodile person better than your 'paintover' one. The arm was MUCH better the way you moved it; but the originals anatomy was FAR more realistic to real crocodilians. Yours was a good design too... but less like a real world crocodilian. Many marine animals ARE VERY harshly counter-shaded and do in fact have stark BRIGHT white (or pale grey) bellies to imitate the bright sky above; whales, dolphins, sharks, various fish, and some crocdilians! So bright white in that design made LOTS of logical sense. Also crocodilian anatomy can and does in fact have very even serrated rows of scales that face in a direction that flows hydro-dynamically; including scaring and damage is a good point but only if the character was intended to be older. Sorry I just know many things about crocdilians. Your version was based more on the 'stereotypes' about crocodilians than the reality. This was a great video overall and packed with useful tips! I will probably watch the rest of this series!
I almost dropped my phone when you said back anatomy video. PLEEEEEASE produce that!! The past 3 pieces I've tried to make have ended up on hold because they've all had backs in them that I have trouble with.
awesome video! I would to see more videos about flow and shape design and character silhouettes. the way you explained it was really interesting and easy to understand. thank you, youre amazing :)
Sinix, I'd love a more in depth video on the battle of Line vs Painting (If you don't have one already). I understand how to carry a piece with painting, fully painting away the sketch. But ways to carry line based drawing with the colors secondary, tends to elude me. Would what you did to the beard be a good example of still carrying with lines, just toned down? Sometimes I just want to draw and sketch, but I tend to get painterly with my sketching naturally. This often leads me into a corner. This was a good episode that included a few key things I needed to hear.
It's been a while since I've watched it but I remember this video of his being pretty good for that: "Drawing like a Painter" ruclips.net/video/JUM3SHNCfpM/видео.html
I do want to say for the dark magician girl: The overall proportions are uncomfortable I feel it would benefit from either pushing to more realistic proportions, or pull back on the relism at all. The human nose and mouth, on a cartoon head and eyes, so close together with the filtrum. It makes her look sorta old, and super hard to look. It really hits an uncanny valley. Also, that thin ass neck, Thats another thing with pushing more cartoony, or relism for everything
Was wondering if there’s any good specific ways to learn good shape appeal, hair and fiddly organic shapes tend not to be my strongest points. Should I just fool around with my shapes more? Maybe a bit of gesture or automatic drawing but I’m not quite sure.
So where did you learn Design Theory? More specifically, where did you get the information you provided in your other design theory videos? I need something to spring off of because searching up just how to get started has never been more of a chore than before, and I know your videos aren't enough.
Hey guys I noticed my hand developed a small shake when holding a pen or any object requiring the fingers. I’ve been using my shoulder but it doesn’t help with the shaky grip. Any tips of getting rid of it?
Hello Sinix and Sinixs fans, i saved up some money and bought Corel Painter 2019 and so far im lovin it, but i have a little problem with the Dry Brush, sinix said its the only brush u need and he is right it seems to be the ultimate brush, however i cant seem to paint small details it with it doesn't move right unless i make a big stroke, can i paint for example with the scratchboard tool? i will appreciate if u can tell me what ur favorite brushes, thanks
Yeah, it actually doesn't even make any marks at small sizes. It does help encourage not working too small, but just do small details with the thick & thin pen. (it's just the scratchboard tool with pressure opacity)
Sinix Design thx for the replay, the thick and thin pen is too mussy but it will do thanks, i wish i could find a dumb square opacity brush in corel T.T
Your critiques are amazing and I never realize how good they are until I see what the art was before; but something you might do is point out more often what they’re doing right because it’s beneficial to the viewer. This has less to do with art and more to do with teaching lol
True I agree!
I'm not saying you're wrong but in all the critiques I've been through I just always assumed anything that isn't mentioned implies that I'm doing it right.
@@NATA5II Same thought, if someone doesn't critique on it, then it must be on okay-levels!
@@issap7617 Yeah but still if something was better than okay level. like done really well, I think pointing it out is good for learning
@@hossamsaeed5310 I think he say that things, like with the tail of the bird, "This is interesting, I'm not gonna touch it".

Dark-less details

Triangular shapes for clothing folds

this is so good thank you
Those 20 minutes passed so fast xD

I love how you manage to really improve the artwork without changing the artist's styles ;)
You're blazing through all these artworks, I thought I was nearing the end of the video and I'm only 8 minutes in. Really enjoying it thus far, very informative too. Thanks Sinix :)
Man I did not ever expect to be deep diving into art improvement videos and come across CRITICAL ROLE FANARt
IKR! At least it's Thursday, amirite? Take care fellow critter :)
Me: wow, great painting.
*a few moments later* wow, the Original was pretty bad.
Dude, how can you be this good at painting?
No art is bad 😤

Geez guy, all I was trying to say is that he can improve any artwork, even those that already look amazing. (My personal, subjective opinion)
Jeez it's not directed at you. what you're saying is fine as it is. but Swesam's concept of pretty much *all* art is bad is absurd
@@kushkungvivo744 i found it funny he twisted a common sentence and caught me off guard

Design is almost a science! Many wannabe artists think is just fun and games, but there's a ton of maths on the fundamentals 🧐
It's cool to see some Critical Role fanart!
"SLIGHTLY delayed" smh

That was incredibly helpful! The variety of examples, varying in mood, style and completion really helped me see the importance of the core principles of value contrast and shape throughout. Subscribed!
And don't forget rythm/gesture ✨ The fundamentals are always the same, so if you master them, you can master any type of creation 🌍👌🏻
