    Damn a lot of these are already so good yet once you show your paint overs you can immediately see the difference in improvement. You’re an amazing artist

      Yup. For some of thoses, in the initial critique, I thought he was nitpicking, but the difference is so obvious after he did the paint over.

    11:35 i think the vibe he was going for was more lovecraftian awe than fear. in which case making the human figure as small as possible while filling the composition the demanding presence is absolutely the way to go.

    • @Exsulator2
      @Exsulator2 3 года назад +18

      Yeah and also if you're showcasing a creature for use in 3D you gotta show more of it than just the head

    • @alexschofield8085
      @alexschofield8085 3 года назад +16

      Absolutely! The first composition definitely fills me with awe when I see the creature, whereas the second one fills me with fear

      You still want the monster to feel massive right? Could do a ground shot where the monster looks like its way off in the distance, maybe some mountainous structures for scale and then a tiny human next to it. I think placing the monster in the distance automatically makes it more of an awe thing since theres quite a bit of separation

    I was just hosed with information. Really reminded me the importance of reviewing the fundamentals. TY SInix!
    Also, to anyone who may know the answer, what exactly does color dodge do? All the videos and text i viewed so far on the topic were very vague and looked over.

    • @sinixdesign
      @sinixdesign  5 лет назад +44

      It just blasts up the brightness, while lowering contrast, and saturating heavily toward whatever color you selected. Unlike most similar modes.. this results in really high saturated mid-tones, because the contrast drop is also allowing colors to reach their peak vibrant value range. That's why it is best for making things look they're glowing. Generally, you use it very lightly with a super dark color selected, because it ramps up fast.

    also, in the Brigitte one, her expression looks a little awkward. her smile is going up on her left, but then her right eye is the one scrunched up. if you try doing it yourself, it feels unnatural. I think whichever side the smile is tilted up, should be the side that the eye is squinted as well :D.

    I think they key on Jacob's might have been just in drawing the eye towards the diver, possibly eliminating the background elements to highlight him or using lines to draw focus to him... because the focus it seemed to me was the space between the turtle and diver.... that was a beautiful painting though. I keep thinking about it. Very emotionally powerful
    On another note, I'm so glad paintover pals is back! Your channel has really honestly taught me 80% of what I know about art. I owe you so much. Finally heading to art school, I feel very prepared for critique exclusively because of this series XD
