First of all, make sure Absolute is selected, not Relative. With a perfectly green color, this will turn the green pure white/black. If instead it turns grey, don't worry; it doesn't have to be pure white/black for the effect to work. Just bump up the Blend-If to remove grey areas. Edit: one more thing, if you're not a big fan of Selective Color, you can also use a different adjustment layer such as Hue/Saturation to change the green to black or white.
Just how do you make Selective color turn pure white or pure black? It just doesn't do that.

Kind of late, but I quickly figured out you might also have to edit the cyan levels too. Apparently not all green screens are 100% green.
