it is not an autotune issue since James has an amazing ear. The problem is related to vocal technique, it is very clear that he is putting a lot of pressure to his vocal chords and that burns stamina like crazy after a couple of songs. He uses proper technique on his cameos while he's relaxing at home, though. I believe that with the proper musical direction and production, James' performances will improve greatly. btw, I remember hearing from Petrucci (the current director of the band) that he won't listen to James on his in-ears live. I hope that with Portnoy, DT will have a musical director that actually listen to his musicians (I hope the click track goes too)
