- It’s matcha. It’s latte. It’s both. A pompadour of old-fashioned ermine frosting tops these chewy Grinch-green cookies from Eric Kim. But they’d look just as polished with a dusting of powdered sugar.

I have so much faith in Eric's recipes, but I'm also like...what cookie could possibly top last year's gochujang caramel cookie?!
That gochujang cookie is the bomb...matcha tastes like dirt
It's the gochujang cookie that gives me the confidence to try this. That one was amazing, and I'm sure this one is too.
I dream about that cookie, so delicious!
Gochujang cookie was fire
@@mjeffers8988I'm really surprised you felt it was appropriate to leave such a mean comment. Idk if it's about matcha in general or these cookies but neither tastes like dirt. Don't be mean.
I love Eric's recipes. His videos are so sweet he reminds me of my son. He mentions his cooking with his mom and aunts, You almost hear someone yell, "Eric, don't make a mess1"
This gift to the baking community each year is so special! I look forward to it. Thanks, NYT Cooking! Also, Eric's word choices (dispersion, aerate, commodity, emulsion, arithmetic, pompadour, ermine, depths, wafting, unknowable, tandsmor) and his self-editing as he explained made this wordsmith smile.
I gotta say, he's a gem. I love his persionality!! So fun to watch!!
I had to make these immediately and they are so good I nearly cried. I can’t wait to tell myself I’m going to give them away but eat them all myself lol 🥰
Do they taste like peanut butter?
@@vittoriabakesthey do not! They do taste like matcha but not too overwhelming, a bit too sweet but delicious!! I also had to make them as soon as possible
@@SonyFaudoa Good to know, thanks!
For the past couple years or so I kept adding recipes to my nyt cooking app, and one day I noticed most were from Eric Kim! And I promise, they were my favorite (along with Melissa Clark's ofc!). He's a genius, he creates the most amazing flavors, I'm a huge fan!
We're so lucky to have him teaching us.
I'm not a matcha person but I'm watching for Eric. What a delightful start to cookie week!
Etic, you nailed these cookies! They are perfect! I tweaked the ermine frosting by adding white chocolate to the roux and reducing the sugar. So amazing! Thank you thank you thank you for this recipe!
Love hearing the explanation for each step
I just made these and they were absolutely DELIGHTFUL! Thanks for the recipe!! ❤
Thank you Eric! You always make me feel happy. Can't wait to try these
I would like the heart palpitation version!
Really love Erics content! Please keep it coming :)
Definitely trying this recipe!!!
Eric Kim makes me smile! What a groovy dude.🤗🤗🤗❤️🔥
can't wait to make this for my cookie box this year!
this recipe is so smart and i love learning about the neat steps! blooming matcha in alcohol, hello vanilla extract, and then the addition of peanut butter as a secret flavor enhancer, love the ingenuity in this recipe!!!!! #earnesteric
eric it has ben a total delight watching you mix this batter
Eric, you are a cookie baking legend.
Cookie week is here!! My most awaited season
Thank you for this delicious-looking recipe! 😊
So ... the almond exact enhancing cherry flavor is not a mimicing effect. Almond and cherry actually share the same predominant chemical compound that impart their flavors. That is benzaldehyde. #TheMoreYouKnow
Sounds like something I can put into my gas tank😮
@@fastcoffee9878wait until you hear about dihydrogen monoxide!
Here I was thinking because almond extract is sometimes made with peach pits
I would love to have that strong matcha crinkle cookie recipe.
I can’t wait to make these 🤩 I loooove a matcha latte. Love cookie week!!!!
Question 🙋🏼♀️: how do you store the cookies, how long will they last (if I need to make it ahead of time..) thanks for reply ~❤️
I see it's Cookie Week on New York Times Cooking, I see Eric Kim, of course I click on the video.
what grade of matcha power are u using? Ceremonial or culinary grade?
Love cookie week!
definitely gonna make those, they look great😁
I’m totally making this tomorrow… who am I kidding, I’m making this tonight!! Thanks Eric, you’re a gift!
So pretty and rustic looking cookies 🍪
tandsmør is an *excellent* word, and the cookies look great - thank you for sharing ^.^
I'm watching for the icing recipe! I've never had matcha. Yet. Eric, peanut butter is my secret to pinto beans. And ramen too. Good stuff!
Looks insane! It's like if your grocery store cookies became bougie and posh...and green
I need to make Christmas cookies ASAP
Ooooo this sounds absolutely perfect. Could any nut butter be used?
Im so curious how the connection to peanut butter happened! my first guess was pistachios to enhance the matcha, second guess tahini. never would i have guessed peanut butter! Can't wait to try these
Just wondering: Is this ceremonial grade or culinary matcha?
Made the matcha cookies with an extra tablespoon of matcha and the texture is wonderful. The matcha flavour is nice with the nuttiness of the peanut butter present and bolstering the flavour.
NYT, please add proper closed captions to your videos. the auto generated ones have errors and are inaccessible. surely you can afford to hire someone to do it.
The frosting is a new one for me. Might have to go into regular service
Man... You made me subscribe to nyt... Do you get a bonus? Haha I just want to make something for my wife and she loves matcha so hopefully I'll be able to pull this off.
He is the best
Cookie week ahhhhh!!!!!
These are so yummy 😍
i remember watching this guys asmr videos
Yum!!!
What was that mug you were holding at 9:19 ? Does the liquid go into the handle?
Just made them… OMG the peanut butter ❤
Yeaaahhh I'm gonna need the recipe for the first matcha cookie you're talking about 😅love a strong matcha flavour!
Assuming without the peanut butter ?
I bet Eric could make a helluva ASMR video.
Hi ! Can I add white chocolate bits in the dough ? (I won't make the icing)
“The concentration of matcha in that cookie was so high that all of my colleagues had heart palpitations that week..” this sounds like a cookie I can get behind. I love high matcha concentration to a point of borderline bitterness.
Omg I’m making
Can you use an electric mixer to do the creaming? Or must it be done by hand to avoid over mixing?
You definitely could! Just go slower so it looks like the vid
Matcha rules!
I'm going to try these first, or maybe the Mexican hot chocolate -- or the matcha latte... Has anyone tried using butterscotch chips for the topping instead of white chocolate?
What’s the purpose of the peanut butter? Does it mimic a particular flavor that compliments matcha?
I love him and I don’t cook really
How long do these keep?
Does anyone have a rec for which matcha powder to purchase? From some of the comments, it would seem that the strength of the powder impacts the overall flavor profile of the final product.
I wonder if you could sub the peanut butter out for tahini paste?
Petition for Eric to make his own ASMR cooking video because he kept mentioning it ahaha
Look up Gourmet ASMR on RUclips… that’s his old ASMR channel.
ASMR makes some people homicidal. Just saying…
He used to have an ASMR channel, and I was a huge fan, but that was years ago and before he worked here :)
Eric 🥰😍
Eric Kim is my son, even though he is older than me. I love my son and his gorgeous cookies.
Can someone confirm these genuinely taste good? I’ve had matcha tea doughnuts and they were the most amazing thing ever, I need to be prepared to be addicted to another matcha tea baked good 😭
where can one find matcha tea donuts?
@@robgarver9124 In London we have a doughnut shop called Crosstown, they make matcha tea doughnuts 😍
Haven’t tried this recipe yet, BUT every Eric Kim cookie week recipe in the past has been my favorite holiday cookie recipe in the past. I bet these will live up to the hype!! 🎉
@@sydneyb9340 thank you ☺️ gona make them over Christmas 😋
THEY DO!
Adding a comment that for the best matcha flavor, hunt down 'Culinary Grade Matcha' which is specifically made for cooking and has a stronger flavor than if you were to try making this with ordinary drinking matcha.
Guys wish me luck. I’m totally late but I’m making them on New Year’s Eve!
cookies that cause heart palpitations is so crazy to me lolll
I’m not a matcha fan but I like the green tea KitKats…. And these look way too good not to try
Store room temp? Fridge?
Did you end up making them and storing them? I just made them and am unsure.
at a buffet, i personally sneak corndogs into the buffet so others can enjoy them. I hide 6 corndogs in my jacket pockets. it then, is a joy for me to see other patrons of the establishment eat my corndogs thinking they were part of the buffet.
7:12 - spot batman
I made matcha cookies just last night but I did a recipe by Teak & Thyme! Would definitely try Eric's version 🤩
If anyone has made Eric's cookies before (including his past recipes), could you let me know if you liked them and how's the sweetness level?? 🤗
The pink frosted ones were very sweet-think tollhouse store cookie-but the frosting was a bit tart from the raspberries! Really good. The gochujang caramel cookies aren’t too sweet, but like a perfect sweet-spicy-salty trifecta.
@@sydneyb9340 thank you so much! I will definitely add his gochujang cookies to my list!
His gochujang caramel ones were well balanced! Of course they’re sweet - similar to a Snickerdoodle - but also a nice depth of flavor from the toasty caramel and gochujang
BUTTER HAS TO BE SOFT!!! My kitchen is no longer warm enough this winter to produce warm butter. Use a mixer! your hand will hurt! the cookie is delicious. My frosting SPLIT due to different temperature of cooked flour mix and room temp butter! get those temperatures similar!!! i could not fix my split buttercream!
only bummer is they won't stack well for storage or cookie plates - anyone had success with making them into little sandwiches?
I might give the sandwich idea a try, I think the presentation of the original would be better though
I bet you could make them a little bit smaller & sandwich them, not unlike a macaron. They'd be stackable & adorable!
you could turn them into little cookie kits if you separated the icing & cookie base!
That is the most insane spam thread i have ever seen oh my god what is happening in these comments
Ugh was sooo excited to make these until u said peanut butter. Am allergic 😢
Me too!! 😢😢
I have sunflower seed butter so I’m going to try that!
I think almond butter would be a better option
My vote for sunflower butter
Tahini would probably be a good sub too.
I thought this dude was Ryan Higa for a sec...
Did anyone see the wu-tang symbol in the salt dish while making the icing?
I cannot do arithmetic.🧐
nyu and columbia educated nyt cooking columnist thinks dispersion is a fancy word xd
Was not a big fan of this recipe... had to cut the matcha in half (I used a strong powder), and replaced peanut butter with lotus cookie butter. Also added 20 grams more brown sugar and two pumps of pistachio syrup..it came out great!!
Gauuuuuy!!
Dispersal
Trust me i dont need a lesson to learn how to cream by hand. I figured that one out all on my own.
100% thought that was slime in the cover image
I was looking for a matcha cookie recipe to make this Christmas, but since my family has a peanut allergy, I can't make this batch. It would've been nice to have just a little consideration for peanut allergies? But it's abundantly clear that no one in the studio thought even for a second that having a peanut/nut allergy might be a concern. The lack of thought and consideration for things like this is incredibly disappointing.
you could substitute with other nut butters, like pistachio, sesame, etc or leave it out entirely. there are also a multitude of other matcha cookie recipes which don't use pb at all. perhaps you might want to check out other creators?
no one loves matcha lattes bro
pass.
