Interested in a foil drive unit… does the weight of the battery box effect the swing weight of the board? I ride a 32l 4’6” Amundsen Supermodel which is quite narrow, not much room in front of the foot pad
Great tips Dominic. One thing I couldn't see mentioned is are you using manual throttle control or do you have the cruise set to a higher throttle so you can focus on getting to planing speed.
Manual - I found it difficult at first but quickly got used to it. Having the fingertip control is really useful to be able to give a burst of speed or to limit it when needed.
Are you holding the controller in your fist when you do the double hand paddle? I am a little paranoid about water intrusion in the controller when i swim-paddle with it. Have you heard of any problems? Paddling with a closed fist feels awkward.
Yes, I am holding the controller in my right hand when I paddle like that. There's no need to worry about water intrusion inside the controller - all the electronics are fully potted (sealed in silicone).
Dom Another great video. Want to practice flat water pumping. Currently using 60 liter apple tree slice but want to eventually go to a 30 liter board I am running lift wings and I am beginning to think they are the wrong fit for this. I can get up in a 170HA cannot get up in 150HAX Thinking of adding Axis to my quiver. What axis set up do you recommend for flat water pumping and still have the ability to surf it and have something that turns? What fuse?
The Axis Pump 4'2" x 30ltr is a great choice for flat water foil driving. As for which foil - what weight are you? The PNG 1150 is the biggest pumping foil that also retains an amount of playful carving (especially when paired with an advanced fuselage and the right stab). If you are very light then the PNG 1010 is good, and if you are heavy the 1300 or 1310 is good. If you have a good level of skill/experience then the 1201 is very good. All these foils are best with the high modulus mast.
@@dominichoskyns9091 Dom, Thank you for the reply. I am 82 Kilos. I have efoiled for 4 years so lots of experience on foil, but just learning how to pump. Will the PNG 1010 have enough Lift to get me up in flat water on a Foil Drive with a 60 liter appletree slice? How about a 30 liter board? Thank you!!
@@WesternStatesMetalRoofing the 1010 has got loads of lift at low speed, so it is a very suitable design for flat water pumping with foildrive. I am 82kg and I can get on foil with the 1010 with 30 ltr boards in flat water no problem at all.
@@dominichoskyns9091 Sorry, final question on this. Is there a tail you recommend for this set up of the 1010 PNG and a 30 liter board, intermediate rider.
100% always, and regulate the amount of throttle by finger pressure. It's hard at first but you get used to it quickly. I tried limiting the throttle but got frustrated as there were times that I couldn't get on foil but would have been able to if I had access to full power. The only times I can see it being useful is for kids, complete beginners and super lightweights.
I'm surprised that battery box position you can still get to your knees I will need to try shifting my battery box all the way to the rail so I have space to lay on the board.
Learning from the master!
Smooth operator

What is the dimensions of this board?
Fanatic Sky Wing 4'7 45L
can you show us this technique in rough water please?

That’s how I mount mine (off the rail, using the foil assist base plate)
I position the box so my knees are just behind the back of the box when I'm kneeling on the board
