I just thought you might like to know that I found this video based on someone's tip for finding booktubers by searching reviews for favorite books, and your review is so spot on with how I feel about this gem of a book (*especially* the no-big-deal queer representation - I literally cried when I realized Chih is they/them), consider me a new subscriber! (if maybe a slightly inactive one lol) Have you read When The Tiger Came Down The Mountain yet? Chef's kiss! I am *so excited* for Into The Riverlands, I've already made sure my library's ordering it!

I loved When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain, and I can't wait for Into the Riverlands! I'm really excited about Siren Queen as well. Tordotcom is actually publishing quite a few queer authors right now, so I'm loving what I'm seeing there. Just so many great stories with such good world building!

I absolutely love your ability to describe such vivid scenarios and plots. Definitely adding this one to my tbr.

Yay!! I loved this one so much, so I hope you get a chance to read it too. I don't know if I even thought to talk about it in the video, but the writing style itself is so beautiful and reminds me a bit of more classical writing, so I really think you'd enjoy it too.

I really love your videos! I love your monthly priorities, I am getting so many reccomendations for reading more diversely which I've been looking for. I love how positive you are, even when you don't love or like a book or part of the book, you are still very respectful to the author and know that some people might like what you didn't. I also love your calming voice, I listen to you sometimes when rocking my baby to sleep, we calm down and relax and she falls asleep to your soothing voice, and then I go try to check out from the library way too many books at a time based on your recommendations lol 😂. Thank you for your content, you are my favorite booktuber!

I'm so glad you're enjoying my videos! I know what you mean about calming voices that help you wind down (if you haven't checked them out, I think Kazen @ Always Doing, Priscilla @ BookieCharm, and Rachel @ Kalanadi all have really soothing voices). I think anything that can get a baby to sleep is worth its weight in gold! And I so agree with you about the monthly priorities. They are something I just sort of fell into when I first started Booktube after doing a Black History Month focus and finding that made my reading month so much more fulfilling. It's made my reading experience feel constantly new and fresh since I'm always hearing different voices. I really strongly recommend subscribing to a ton of Booktubers of color since that has been where I end up hearing about all these amazing books that end up on my ever-growing TBR. And if you ever end up reading something you've heard me talk about, mention it in the comments (regardless of the video topic) since I'm always curious what others think!

Stories of your life and others, The Best We Could Do, They called us enemy, and Furthermore were all fantastic recommendations. I've decided I adore graphic novel memoirs, and Ted Chiang is a new favorite author. I am also really enjoying learning about afrofuturism from ONYX pages based on your shout out. I've read more widely with nonfiction but my fiction reading is definitely very eurocentric, I love branching out to new to me fantasy and sci-fi authors and genres!

@@Oleah89 Right?! Graphic memoirs have just been blowing me away with how fantastic they are. Have you read Persepolis or Maus, by the way? Those are two really amazing ones that I'd recommend as well. And yay for Ted Chiang! He is just such an outstanding author. I'm glad you're watching Njeri's channel - she is such a great leader in the community and reads things I never hear anyone else talking about!

great review thank you. i would like to read this book.
do you you think it would fit the prompt "4. Gargoyles - Read a book based on an ancient myth/mythology or history" of the tbt-a-thon ?

I think it would fulfill the prompt! I think it has a lot of influence from Vietnamese history/culture/myth, although it's definitely adapted. I hope you're able to read it!
