Hey Leland -- I'm Jeanne O'Connor, Don's widow. Thank you for saying such lovely things (all true) about my Donnie. He always spoke highly of you!
I grew up listening to him and JT. I’m 39......
@@SulCoCrazy her town too by James Taylor duet with JD Souther from 1981
He seemed like he really lead JT's band and performances, Don did
❤
He was an amazingly talented man. So sorry for your loss. 💙
Came here to see if Lee had made a video about JD yet. I’m sure it’s coming. My heart is broken today learning of JD Souther’s passing. Such an incredible singer and amazing songwriter. I’ve loved his music since I was a little kid and my older brother played JD all the time. His is a heavy and tremendous loss. Shedding tears and listening to JD today. 💔
So interesting and enjoyable. Thanks Leland!❤
I’ve always loved this exquisite blend of these two gentle voices. It’s like butter melting on your pancakes.
Seen the video a couple dozen times. JT and JD never get old. Just Wonderful.
Super love listening to the stories,
Have always just loved this tune. Thanks!
It doesn't matter when you post it. It's always the right time when we get them.
Still up over an hour later!
It occurred to me that I first came for the music, but I’ve returned each day for the unique stories and the humility. And the phone ringing.
You are THE energizer bunny of RUclipsrs!! Thanks for hanging in there L!
Still
Nice playing with that
Musical 🎶 instrument.
After all these
years 😍👍.
More power to you❤️
In The Mighty Name Of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth🇮🇱🙏
JD played this for me when he got home from the taping. To this day I believe it to be one of the best male singing voices of all time!
Been following your recent goings on coming back from Spain and you can be sure you’re family and friends are in my prayers every night and so may here would surely say the same! Thanks for sharing. All the best…🙇🏻♀️
I have watched the video of this song DOZENS of times!! I love the raw emotion of JD. What a song! 👏👏💟
ITS AMAZING TO SEE A TRUE LEGEND TELLING STORIES, AND SHARING HIS MUSICAL PASSION DIRECTLY FROM HIS HOUSE. GOD BLESS EVERYONE AND WE WILL SURVIVE !!
Thanks for being here for us. In Australia I work in an Emergency Dept. ("covid central"). I enjoy playing keys. Your channel is the best thing about lockdown in Melbourne Australia. Thank you.
Thanks for remembering Don Grolnick! One of my most favourite musicians...such an incredible talent!
P.S. Love the bass line in the verse
I would guess, based on the artists, albums, and songs, you’ve reached over a billion people. That is a HUGE accomplishment for any musician! Thanks for the stories and the songs. Amazing.
You're a rebel Mr. Sklar! I'm glad that I got to see this before they pull it.
Don't apologize. We're so lucky to have you professor! We LOVE hearing the stories and watching the Master in action.
JD was such an underrated singer and songwriter! Love his voice! Thanks for posting.
Really nice Lee!! This song epitomizes what I love most about your playing. Melodic and so pocket perfect. Thanks so much.😊
Great bass playing, that you for posting.

Oh dear Lee, your enthusiasm is contagious, you play those pretty old songs like a boy that have just learned it listening to the record, and the best of all you share your joy with all of us viewers, thanks and blessings!
That was worth waiting for Lee. thanks for persevering!
WMG is going after people with a vengeance. We love that you here for us today!
Mark Brooks RUclips needs a fair use button on the creator side. This is B$
@@ra4fun4me YES! where the hell did that disappear to? Check this out: ruclips.net/video/1Jwo5qc78QU/видео.html
Dr. Zarkhov I was just wishing for the feature so guys like Lee don’t go through all this B$. That’s an interesting video on copyright.
@@ra4fun4me Oh me too, believe me. I've started posting a few unlisted family videos of my own due mostly to an Uncle that has recently passed but, unfortunately I used copyrighted music because of the period it took place, it made sense and naturally the few guys including my Uncle that were still alive to see it, loved it. It was never intended to be uploaded anywhere but you know the old adage.
I enjoy your reminisces so much Lee. Thanks so much for taking the time to provide these great videos.
You sir, are a true legend. You are also a good person. Thank you.
Thank you Lee for trying hard, it’s such a lovely song and your bass line sounds amazingly good !
Merci beaucoup 😊
Hi, Lee! I am struggling through out hard times, so watching you to play feels like a shelter to me, like a brother's hug... Thanks for making music!
Don Grolnick is a true genius and master pianist. I adore his work with Mike Brecker. RIP
Love that song. Always have. Thanks for playing it. Hearing the bass lines up front is great. Now I hear the song in a new way. Very cool.
Thank you Lee for your tenacity ! I love that !
Real cool, Leland. Thanks for persevering on the post, and for all the great music through the years.
Set me in a VERY sweet state of mind... Thank you very much Leland.
Thanks for persevering Lee it was worth it- nice dynamics to the song.
Leland, I Love your videos. Don't change!
Please don't stop doing all of this!! The music, the sharing, the shouting out! All this is greatly needed and appreciated, and the world will be a better place if more of all this is around! Thank you for being inspirational always!!!! 👍😎 Greetings from Caracas, Venezuela!!
Nice Lee! Thanks for persevering! Continue to enjoy your channel and what you bring. All the best. Gary
Great memories thank you love this !Enjoy listening
Takes me back to my youth. You are so right, Lee. Watching your videos (and other’s videos) reminds us of songs we loved, or give the opportunity for the younger generation to hear them the first time. Keep up the good fight.
Great song! Another favorite of mine of James' jams! As always, you da man Lee!
Just watched it in So. CA. We enjoy your videos! Thank you for what you do.. It’s helpful in this pandemic. Blessings to you.. Stay healthy .. 👍🏼🙂
I absolutely love this song! Thank you for playing it for us!
Lee, it worked this time and it was a pleasure listening to you and to the bass line... such a lovely song, heart breaking.... take care... ciao.. from Milan, Italy !
I love that the phone rang during this. You didn't edit it out...
Another great song,,,,,Great Job Lee !!!
Wow that was amazingly beautiful. You are a treasure. I feel so fortunate to be able to see these great videos. When mental health is running at an all time low, these videos really help lift spirts. I know this sounds redundant, but thank you so much for your generosity and your unbelievable talent.
Take care ♥️ BR, Per (Denmark)
So good, great song. That bass line is so perfect! Sweet
Watching you is magic Leland - James, JD, and you with one of my favorite songs ever. thank you
That's such a damn good wonderful song.
Gives me shivers
Mr.Leland, I met your channel and your work from another bassist’s channel(don’t remember who now...) but I’m so glad we have this technology today that allow meet people like you.
You are an incredible musician(don’t need to say it, of course) and human being. Love your music, your kindness and empathy.
Love the music, the stories and the talk.
I’m a mediocre guitarist and bassist myself so I’m also learning to play these tunes.
Please continue this work even after you are back to studios and the road.
And as you always say, take good care of yourself!
A great, great song, and thanks for telling us that the video was recorded live! I really appreciate your down to earth way of talking. First heard of you back on the Graham Nash/David Crosby album, 1972. And all your work with Jackson Browne and so many others over the years. Thanks Lee! And I appreciate your comments about masking. It's not asking too much.
🎼 Dearest Leland, Thank you for your kind words & mentioning Phil Collins & family! I've always been a fan of his , but until his injuries , have I really connected to him and his (ex) wife also!! I have the same exact issues & God almighty the pain is unbearable. God love him that he has his family! Mine are all gone and that's where you come in!
Thank you for the few minutes a day of shits & giggles to make me smile!!! Im also sorry to see you have to get upset when you try to post James Taylor. You spoke about friends that left us from cancer & YOU CAN CLOSE YOUR EYES was the last thing I said to my brother 25 yrs ago when he past. The songs lyrics has been my bittersweet spot for me!!
Ok, now that I've cheered you up.......!!!!!! Lol
God bless you, stay well & keep kicking ass!!!❤✌🐾🐾
Take care ♥️ BR, Per (Denmark)
Leland, I’m hoping to hear more about Don Grolnick- your memories, stories etc. My admiration of his work goes way way back (as does for you also...) Thanks, and please know how much I love your channel!
Gosh! You've awakened some great memories I have! I've just realised that I must have seen you on that tour in 1981. I was 21 at the time and came from London to LA with my pedal bike and was cycling across your country back to NYC. At Reno I bought a Rolling Stone and on the page I opened I read that James Taylor would be playing in Indianapolis some weeks hence. I worked out that I should be able to get there in time if I set off in that direction via Salt Lake City - Denver - Kansas - Illinois. I arrived in Indianapolis 2 days before the concert, met some nice folks in a pizza restaurant who helped me get a ticket, and I stayed with them until the concert. I've stayed in touch with them till this day, and I attribute that to picking up Rolling Stone when I did. I also had a small radio attached to my handlebar, and there was a JT track often played on AM radio - 'Her Town Too'. Did you play on that? Great memories indeed!
So weird. After all this it will not display the video on the channel even though it is here. OY!!!!!!!!
It shows up on the channel for me!
Just watched, video and audio worked fine here.
It's also being recommended.
I don't see the video....but I do know it by heart. 😁
Worked fine for me
Thanks for persisting.... I appreciate your tenacity!
Lee, you are absolutely my zen. Thank you so much
Your persistence is appreciated! Thank you.
Stay the course! You are a bright spot in my day - I save watching you for when I really need to chill.
Thanks for your perseverance Lee, great video!
Simply beautiful... thank you!
I love this song. Thank You!
Firstly a huge fan....hilariously I commented a few days ago (18/4/2024)on the studio version of this track where as you say they sing it live and not lip sync it. it is a great underestimated track by James. Well written and well sung by James annd John David it is so rare to hear sinngers actually sing live and it is remarkably very close to the studio version. The players were great and I am glad that version exists as for a long time on youtube it didn't have that clip, but I have a copy from a long time ago just for me. keep playing you are a legend.
It worked ! We got to hear the whole song. Thank you for being so determined to get your work past the guards, bots or whatever that stopped it twice before. You are a real gent.
Preach Brother. I agree 100%. Stay healthy and keep doing what you're doing. THANK YOU
Always loved this song❤️ Thanks for the hard work!
One of my favourite songs, well done! :-)
I'm watching/listening to this and enjoying it in the wee hours of 7/17...no problems!
Most dudes dream of looking like Brad Pitt or something, but I dream of looking like Lee Sklar. Beautiful guy. Inside and out.
thank you for your comments about wearing a mask and protecting your neighbors, friends and family. maybe coming from you it may sink in to a few peoples minds. i hope you continue to stay well and I am hoping for the best that the folks you know who are ill now make a full recovery.
Lee thank you so much for the words at the end. From a new friend in Florida.
That's beautiful Lee. Loved it!!
☘❤☘
Lee, this bass line, along with "Your Smiling Face" and several others you played with JT and PC are proof of Da Vinci's principle that the highest level of genius is simplicity. Thank you, again, for all the inspiration.
Great stuff again Mr Sklar! I also love the fact that complete strangers answer questions posed to you and it's like you're pulling people together. Not a bad thing these days in this world. I look forward to your next post!! 😁
Wow, in this one JT’s singing at the beginning reminds me of Phil Collins’ “Another Day In Paradise”. The vibe, the gentleness, the simplicity of beauty. You’re such a gift for all of us here. I watched all of your videos and just am in awe of your attitude, storytelling and this absolutely amazing house of yours🏆
One of the best videos I've ever seen. It is real. I finally saw a glimpse of your talent and how you make not only Taylor's songs, but other bass backgrounds you have done in the past for others. Keep it going man.
Why are there even 16 thumbs down? This isn’t a political video. It isn’t immoral. It’s just a man playing a very nice bass part.
The thumbs down twits can just go away. Love LS and these videos ❤️
Loved the honest mistakes! Great song. Have enjoyed it for so many years
Glad I got to see this one! The first two were gone as soon as they went up!.
One of my all time favorites. She gets the garden he gets the boys in the band.
I'm glad I got to see this in case it's taken off. Thanks for your stick-toitiveeness!
Lee, you are better with flaws than most anyone! Love your music, podcasts, everything!
Fantastic! Ty for still creating!!
Thanks for your persistence! Happy to get to see it!
Lee you are an absolute delight.
Thanks Mr. Sklar! Loved it, worth the wait!
That was the Dad Loves His Work tour, yes? I saw you later that month in Walnut Creek, California. It was a treat I paid for myself as I was in the process of leaving the Navy after six years. It was a great concert!
Yes it was and thank you so much.
I was at WC as well. Great show
So glad this made it through! I've always loved how JD and JT sounded on this - the harmonies are sublime. Just discovering you played on this one too! Thanks for persevering - I saw the "pissed" video and thought that was that.
You made me laugh with that “I hate that lick” aside after the “...boys in the band” line. I’m not a big fan of the “funk snap” bass thing-with all due respect to “The Lowdown”-but at least you put it in the right place, lyrically speaking! Cant thank you enough, Leland, for shining a light in these dark days ✌️🌞
It was in the 81 show. Not what I would do today!
Slap like now :)
@@markroberts666 lmao, Davie 504 and Leland are polar opposites!
Aaaah you picked one of my all time favourite songs. First time I heard it on the radio decades ago I knew it. (couple of mont I have found fresh album in the store). And I am so glad to se you Mr.Sklar playing it because your approach to bass guitar playing is GREAT CONTRIBUTION TO THE SONG. Bass guitar is by far than playing root chord notes or ego satisfying notes exibition,...
Looks like 3rd time is a charm. 😁 Thank you Leland! 👍👍
The phone thing made me laugh after the earlier vid hehe! Wonderful stories and song, Thanks again Lee!
Thanks Lee for the memory, I personally like the live performance video, the one where you and Waddy nod to each other to the line” he gets the boys in the band”…peace and love Lee,take care and🖕🏽, 🤣.
That bass sounds great, nice bright growl to it. Thanks for another great tune.
RIP JD Souther
4:06 - Bass lesson begins. Yep. This is good... really good! Thank you brother. You get it ... that's for sure. I only wish the notes were more muted - rather than allowed to resonate...but that's just me. I think I'm more funk than you... but you are certainly close. Plugging in my bass this week...thanks! But - I can never get enough of JD Souther! Never...I'm west coast too. But soon to return to Philly, my home away from home.
