Good on ya Mr Browne.. great song ... keep these classics alive forever please.. because so much music today is disposable. Your songs from The Pretender, Running on Empty, Late For the Sky, Hold Out,, are some of the most sensitive and organics songs ever. They hold up beautifully because they are honest, and lyrically universal and philosophical. Of course you had great players along to help shape it.. bringing in shades or rock, country, folk, blues, gospel and classical. Your gifts are appreciated.
And Saturate Before Using! The man wrote the songs of my youth, made me fall in love with love songs at 14. DC, I did not lie. The truth can be easily seen in pictures of H & M ❤
He had the most beautiful voice, but he often didn't let it out, for some reason. Linda Ronstadt once said he was her favorite vocalist(and songwriter)...I guess she'd know. I saw him perform the summer after he finally had a big hit on the radio(Only Lonely)...and he sounded really good during that concert...his voice so clear and true.

Yes, JD Souther is a class act and more. Many of us know he was a close friend of Glen Frey and Don Henley and helped them write many of their Eagles songs. When Glen asked JD to join The Eagles he politely declined saying they did not need another singing guitar player. Yes he very underrated but definitely a legend.
GEEZ, Peter Berger--(or should I say Petter Berger?) You rave about the Eagles as if you know them personally, but TWICE you misspell Glenn Frey's name in your post!!! It's spelled, G-L-E-N-N-, not G-L-E-N!!! Why should we care about your opinion when you are so unaware of the most basic facts of whom you speak? I'm sorry to blast you on this, but it is too blatant to let slide under the circumstances! Better luck next time. Tony =^,,^=
January 1975, I bought LATE FOR THE SKY and it stayed on my turntable until early summer. One side, the other side, every day. Best album ever. It proved to be a map of life and emotions and experiences that were ahead of me.
First time I see JD Suther here. I know him so well from Eagles. 2 gigs only, I will never forget. And take it easy. Only so can I survive in these crazy world. Thanks for Jackson Browne.
This is may be my favorite JB song ever. And because it is one of the best songs ever written, lyric-wise, here it is in its entirety. Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer I was taken by a photograph of you There were one or two I know that you would have liked a little more But they didn't show your spirit quite as true You were turning 'round to see who was behind you And I took your childish laughter by surprise And at the moment that my camera happened to find you There was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes Now, the things that I remember seem so distant and so small Though it hasn't really been that long a time What I was seeing wasn't what was happening at all Although for a while our path did seem to climb When you see through love's illusions, there lies the danger And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger While the loneliness seems to spring from your life Like a fountain from a pool Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight You've had to hide sometimes, but now you're all right And it's good to see your smiling face tonight Now, for you and me it may not be that hard to reach our dreams But that magic feeling never seems to last And all the future's there for anyone to change, still you know it seems It would be easier sometimes to change the past I'm just one or two years and a couple of changes behind you In my lessons at love's pain and heartache school Where if you feel too free and you need something to remind you There's this loneliness springing up from your life Like a fountain from a pool Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight You've had to hide sometimes, but now you're all right And it's good to see your smiling face tonight Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight You've had to struggle, you've had to fight To keep understanding and compassion in sight You could be laughing at me, you've got the right But you go on smiling so clear and so bright
This album came out when I knew my relationship was coming to an end. This song had great significance, I thought it explained exactly where I was at that time of my life. Although no regrets.

Jackson Browne.....your voice is still from another world......too good to be from this one....you made me cry then and now seeing you live I still cry......you are amazing
No Doubt a tearjerker of a song, pulls on the heartstrings of past Love. I discovered this song long after I was introduced to JB when Running On Empty was released.
Such great songs - great lyrics, great harmonies, great musicianship. I just can't love these guys' music enough.
Just amazing ! Better than the LP version . JD never gets enough credit and Jackson is as clear and strong as ever .
You could be laughing at me, you've got the right, but you keep on smiling so clear and so bright. This song will go down in history as one of the greatest ever written.. loved you for many many years, JACKSON BROWNE!
I adore Jackson! He’s amazing with everyone he performs with!
J D Souther’s voice still makes my heart skip a beat. His album Natural History is a must-have gem.
Thanks for the recommendation! I sampled the songs and then bought the album.
it's an amazing album
Two HUMUNGOUS talents. Two of the sweetest and most recognizable voices in popular music.
Don't forget the great Ry Cooder over to right , in a seated position. Look him up, if you don't know.
@@stargazer6753 Thanks for adding that. Ry Cooder is such a awesome talent. Dream to hear him live in concert ;-)
@@julierood1228 Do you know how Ry began playing the guitar? If you don’t , it’s on Wikipedia or I would love retelling the story as It is one of the most heart rendering stories in music.
Jackson is always stellar. Add JD and Ry Cooder and then it’s great! The piano player killed it too!!
What a wonderfully written song. Jackson Browne is such a wonderfully prolific song writer..that’s for sure!
+Paul Wohlstetter wellsaidPaul iagree with all you said
Absolutely.
Love this! And David Lindsey too
And Saturate Before Using! The man wrote the songs of my youth, made me fall in love with love songs at 14. DC, I did not lie. The truth can be easily seen in pictures of H & M ❤
J.D's harmony is so perfect.
EFFEN JD... too awesome for words
They sound great together! I love JD Souther's voice and harmony.
Have always loved his work. So much feelings and those arrangements are unique to him.
Love, Love, Love Jackson Browne! Both his voice and JD Souther’s voice are still as melodious as ever! God Bless you both for sharing your talents with the world all these many years! We humbly thank you!

Total Wow, The pure talent on this stage!
JB & JD so great, & just look at Ry over there being nothin' but cool perfection!
One of my favorite singer song writers...and JD also a great writer and vocalist!
JD 's harmony with anyone is so beautiful. Love them both and this song...makes me cry!!
He is awesome. Takes me back to the 70s. He is one of my heroes.
"I'm just one or two years and a couple of changes behind you." My favorite line from any song. Ever.
+ Charles C 1. Yes indeed, Charles.
Charles C. Absolutely!
I get pretty excited abot music, but, I still feel this is one of the best songs ever written. Thank you Brother Jackson.
oh the days...glory days
My first concert at 16 at Freeborn Hall at UC Davis was to see him, now I'm 65 and if I have my way one day I'll see him again, and make it my last concert. Started with him, let it end with him.
What a beautiful performance of this gorgeous song -- the poetry lyrics are romantic and gut wrenching.
Jackson Browne is a remarkable word smith.
Agreed! I think the lyrics to this song are some of the best ever.
This is excellent. Never seen it before. Two American music greats.
Love, love this song and Jackson Browne 💖💖💖
Tony =^,,^=
@@tonyrogerson2683 You sound like a tool.
Perfect harmonies from JD Souther 🎵🎼🎶 ... thank you Laural Canyon 👍👍👍
January 1975, I bought LATE FOR THE SKY and it stayed on my turntable until early summer. One side, the other side, every day. Best album ever. It proved to be a map of life and emotions and experiences that were ahead of me.
Jackson Browne needs a hug, love the song and harmonies by JD thank you sooooo much for all the music....happy NEW VIBES for the NEW YEAR!!!YEA!!!
Hello Theresa
How are you doing?
It’s nice meeting you here!
I loved John David Souther so much. RIP 💕🙏💕
MISS HIM
Lucky to see JB twice in The Netherlands. Love this guy 😎😎😎👍👍👍
American music’s poet laureate!! Somehow he knows everything that’s in our hearts and souls💪🏻💪🏻 Love you Jackson♥️♥️
First time I see JD Suther here. I know him so well from Eagles. 2 gigs only, I will never forget. And take it easy. Only so can I survive in these crazy world. Thanks for Jackson Browne.
ofenblase check out JD’s music. Amazing. He put a lot of people on the map. One of the best song writers( and singers) ever. 🙏🏻
What a great song, depth, emotion. And done so perfectly.
This is may be my favorite JB song ever. And because it is one of the best songs ever written, lyric-wise, here it is in its entirety.
Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer
I was taken by a photograph of you
There were one or two I know that you would have liked a little more
But they didn't show your spirit quite as true
You were turning 'round to see who was behind you
And I took your childish laughter by surprise
And at the moment that my camera happened to find you
There was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes
Now, the things that I remember seem so distant and so small
Though it hasn't really been that long a time
What I was seeing wasn't what was happening at all
Although for a while our path did seem to climb
When you see through love's illusions, there lies the danger
And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool
So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger
While the loneliness seems to spring from your life
Like a fountain from a pool
Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light
You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight
You've had to hide sometimes, but now you're all right
And it's good to see your smiling face tonight
Now, for you and me it may not be that hard to reach our dreams
But that magic feeling never seems to last
And all the future's there for anyone to change, still you know it seems
It would be easier sometimes to change the past
I'm just one or two years and a couple of changes behind you
In my lessons at love's pain and heartache school
Where if you feel too free and you need something to remind you
There's this loneliness springing up from your life
Like a fountain from a pool
Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light
You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight
You've had to hide sometimes, but now you're all right
And it's good to see your smiling face tonight
Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light
You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight
You've had to struggle, you've had to fight
To keep understanding and compassion in sight
You could be laughing at me, you've got the right
But you go on smiling so clear and so bright
That piano player is awesome too!…fabulous! He plays the piano with such a great deal of emotion!
Such a great performance, great rendition, great version of a great song.
Two of the most amazing and underrated talent’s of
our time....DEDICATED!!
This album came out when I knew my relationship was coming to an end. This song had great significance, I thought it explained exactly where I was at that time of my life. Although no regrets.
Thanks Jackson. I first heard you at The Paradox in Tustin in 196?. Next at the Love In at Irvine Park, 1968, and at many concerts over the years. Thanks again for your music. It is a part of my life's soundtrack.
What a great performance by Jackson and an all-star band!!
Two talented friends , Love you Jackson and Love JD too 😚❤❤

Two great singers, sounds like beautiful music....
Two really great talents of the 70's rock, country rock era, still going strong. Jackson had a great show in Red Rocks in August 2015, I was there, truly a highlight, JD a great back home gig in 2016, nice performance.
1978 or 1979 too, can t quite remember. Late for the sky
I Have seen Jackson three times! I LOVE all his Tunes! But this one is my very most Favorite! I have been listening to it for 50 years! It's guided me through many a Storm!
Love Jackson Browne. I have lots of his records. He is the best.
I hope that this great piece is getting some extra views as people look for the work of JD Souther upon the news of his passing. He is joined here by Buddy Miller, Ry Cooder, and Don Was (on bass) who somehow seems to have a hand in the best music of the past 3 decades at some level, all in support of Jackson Browne.
Agreed. What a Gem. Tim Lauer's piano, McCrary Sisters. Who is the drummer?
Hitched many a ride from LA to The Haight to see him, eagles, great full dead, New Riders, Marshall tucker...
