I went to rehab for alcohol addiction in 2011. when other drunks, cokeheads, junkies, and pillheads would tell their stories, we'd listen, sometimes snickering, sometimes chuckling under our breaths at their crazy stories. When the gambling addicts came to speak, they left everyone in tears. The extremity of the highest of highs, to the lowest of lows is astounding. Money is THE MOST powerful drug.

I love Kaner - as another Black man who loves the game, I understand he has a lot of pressure put on him. Kudos to Kenny Holland and the Oilers franchise and team leaders like McDavid and Draisaitl for giving this gem another chance. He's a top 6 guy on any team in the NHL on the ice - off the ice everyone has the potential to have problems. Kaner, keep your head in the game brother and it'll pay off in dividends! You're a beast when you're focused and there's a lot of young boys and girls, men and women who are looking up to you. Keep working hard and enjoy playing along side two of the best players in a generation.

In California nonetheless... I literally have a screenshot of me commenting on this matter when his wife first came out about the "gambling against NHL games". I knew it was nonsense from day 1. You could literally put the pieces together by just looking at their instagram, and other Social Medias. She was upset because he was on vacation with his own kid in the offseason, and she didn't come along, she was on Instagram live complaining about it, and then later comes out and makes some nonsense allegations.. addiction is no joke, and it's just the same as drug addiction. I don't think anybody should be shunned, and given an easily 2nd chance. Kane has been through the ringer with his old wife, she was literally crazy. Glad he's able to shine in Edmonton. Wow. what an amazing interview, for someone who battled so much throughout his career both on and off the ice he really seems to be on the right track. So happy as an oilers fan to have him in Edmonton. We love you Evander

Blows my mind that he's still demonized by a lot of the media and certainly other fan bases around the league that don't get to see the side of him that best demonstrates the way Evander acts toward others. I'm so glad sportsnet did this piece.

Wow, this is brave to talk about, good for him. Gambling addiction is no joke. There are no signs of it until your entire life is destroyed. A lot of people lose their lives to it. It worries me that I see sports betting being advertised while watching the NHL. Kids are impressionable, they already get pushed addictive gambling like practises in their video games.

I live in Edmonton, but I'm not an Oilers fan. I honestly believed that signing him when they did was a huge mistake. Like tossing a grenade into the locker room. However, watching him engage with the community here has been a huge, pleasant surprise. He took a bunch of kids on a shopping spree a while back, and this relationship with his little friend all seem to indicate that he's turned a corner in his life. It's nice to see a troubled guy finally find his way.

While any individual who makes an effort to improve himself should be encouraged, one cannot blame the reaction of the general population to the follies that this individual has committed in the past. You act like an idiot and you will be treated as such. But nobody is perfect and anyone who is honest in their desire to lead by example and become a positive force deserves our support. Go Evander.

Come on people, this is what is called a “PR” fix, I mean actions speak volumes. Let’s look 5-10 years down the road. If he pays his child support, and truly makes changes in his life, then yes good on him. There have been “WAY” to many incidents where teammates, organizations, and acquaintances that have not utter a kind word about him. So as they say, the proof is in the pudding.

    • @jilldesmet7956

@@jilldesmet7956 look just because one of the many bad things about this guy isn’t true right at this moment, doesn’t change the character of this guy overnight. This guy has had issues since first entering the league. We’re talking about a guy who’s playing right now while having a ton of debt, past teammates putting him on blast. All I’m saying is just because he did a 10 min video that is set up for him to look good, I’ll wait until I christen this guy as a good dude.
