    Hey man, if you can make DM as competitive as possible even if it’s not a pure DM deck, go for it. This is an interesting deck and if you can make to finals and be top, that’d be amazing. A definite representation for us DM players ✊🏽 rooting for ya.

  • @MrMockRock

    This is a cool deck that I tested out verbatim, the problem I ended up having with it was just too many dead hands, especially going first. Multiple bricks, 6 near-useless board breakers, the conditional nature of Duality, and a few packages that don't always have ways to work with each other left things feeling clunky more often than I wanted, even before interruptions. Currently experimenting with a few tweaks, the best-feeling one so far has been bumping the card count up to 45 (which I just generally think is a solid idea for bricky decks) and including 1 Aluber and 3 Branded Opening. Seeing Branded Fusion way more often doesn't totally un-clunk the deck (it's still DM at the end of the day), but it feels a lot better. Shedding the triangle and cutting down to a single DM is definitely the play though, as bad as it feels lol

      I agree. The next step is figuring out how to get this deck more consistent. I have a few suggestions including yours, and we’ll see where those take me!

    Love seeing the test hands. Coincidentally, just this week I started experimenting with a DM list that includes Mysterion. He can be nice against decks like Spright. It's helpful to have a spellcaster+dragon fusion option as well for those times when you're otherwise bricked on a dragon and something like Rod.

      Thats definitely the choke point of the list. It's hardest matchup is kashtira because they can out the winda with 1 NS, that being said having winda apply that pressure is sometimes enough for you the generate enough advantage to take control of the game. • @MatchieYGO
      @MatchieYGO  Год назад

      Thanks for the comment!
      The Runick stuff is still incredible. However, I’m opting to go for a more oppressive playstyle with this list. where as runick is more gas. I just feel when trading interactions 1 for 1, DM significantly lacks engine to win those matchups, so rather than playing a deck that focuses on 1 for 1 interactions, I think the “meta call” is to break boards, and oppress my opponent with Cards like dragoon, winda, village, Bystials ect applying pressure after breaking their boards.
      Runick may very well make a comeback in the near future if my theory doesn’t work as intended, I think both versions of the deck are very strong.

    This is really helpful. As a strictly DM player the lines of play for branded aren't something I'm as familiar with, wondering if you could do a few more of these showcasing the interactions with some of the other branded cards? Specifically branded fusion. Coming from Ritual DM, I like that this version of the deck seems to always have gas, but sometimes it can be overwhelming to a non branded player knowing which lines to go down. Really liking this direction though!

    GO! DARK MAGICIAN

  • @LizerdWizard
    @LizerdWizard Год назад

    Hey Matchie, interesting stuff! Quick question about 3:50, is there any reason you can't use duality's effect for the draw by pitching timaeus off of schism? It seems you could just go ahead and shuffle back timaeus and the magnamhut that's already in the gy for the draw 1, no? And actually, it seems better that way than pitching Mag (on top of the point you mentioned about wanting to keep mag for the interrupt), since you don't have many good light targets you'd want to banish, i.e., you want to get cartesia back to hand, and granguignol could potentially use its second effect in gy, so if you can avoid shuffling either back that would be better I would think. Thanks again for the awesome video!

    • @MatchieYGO
      @MatchieYGO  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the question :) it’s because I need a dark in grave to resolve schism :) so it needed to be mag! But good eye, that was def a play, I needed another dark though :)!
      Thanks for watching my friend

    • @LizerdWizard
      @LizerdWizard Год назад

      @@MatchieYGO Ah right, I got a bit fixated on the play at hand and totally forgot about the end board you were going for lol.
      If you don't mind another question, I saw in your more recent video that you felt the bystials were underperforming for you; do you think you'll be cutting them altogether from the list, and if so, would you strictly want to maintain those extra deck slots for other side deck options (i.e., defensive style cards like ttt, village, etc.,) or would you hypothetically consider putting in more engine cards if you had some. I guess I'm asking more generally what you feel is the right/minimum number of cards slots you want to reserve in a 40 card deck for those defensive style side deck cards. I'm labbing my own branded dm build that runs a bit more heavy on branded tech (opening, branded in red, etc.), and was experimenting to what extent I can incorporate additional engine cards you use without sacrificing on existing combo pieces I use.

    • @MatchieYGO
      @MatchieYGO  Год назад +1

      @@LizerdWizard excellent question. A lot of that and more will be answered in a video I’m working on in the future.
      It’s going to be a lengthy response so Ima just narrow it down: Bystials are only as good as the format let’s them, I’ve moved them all to the side deck as I feel they are way more dominant there (siding them in into matchups that really maximize their value) - with how dm is fundamentally, the deck needs cards that do a lot on their own, and Bystials are either crazy or bricks… no inbetween in this current format. As of writing this comment, I think they are a must in the side, but not strong enough to have a main deck slot.
      Cards like TTTc ect, have been put in the main, I’ll be going over everything in the near future :)

    I feel like Winda + Dragoon on the opponent's turn, is stronger than Dragoon + Mirrorjade on the opponent's turn with no discard for Dragoon until they play a spell. Although the follow up can be better with the second option. You also have to fit Luluwalilith! You're right, Granguignol doing nothing in the GY really sucks, although it is a target for Duality's draw and there's not many others.

    • @Torifunee
      @Torifunee Год назад +1

      I dissagree, winda+dragoon w 2 discards is easy to play thru with kashtira bc they can just summon any kash and attack over winda and then all you have left is 2 drgoon negates while mirrorjade can be pretty good if they like theosis you can banish the target or birth even

    I finally got some time to test out this deck. It bricks... a lot. Trying to get dragoon, winda, granguignol out on turn one/two is very resource intensive... at least for a DM deck. It's not the first time I've tried dragoon with winda however this version seems much better. Honestly, we can take the bystials out. They don't help us to either extend or interrupt opponent plays. What to replace it with? No idea but bystials feel clunky.

    Dragoon winda doesn’t really match up well rn though..
    Vs Runick LTS there are loads of outs with the runick spells and non engine - often on evenly and tactics which beats/outs dragoon
    Vs Kash SS fenrir cooks you
    I also think that these boards are really weak to meta trends such as DRNM, TTT’s and arise

    • @MatchieYGO
      @MatchieYGO  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much for the comment! I definitely agree with the list having a poor matchup into Runick… THAT being said there are a few things to note. Firstly, Dragoon is very strong against Kash… the winda is definelty not a treat to those decks in particular, however it applies enough pressure to exhausted their resources.
      As for Runick, there are side deck options that just win the game outright (Secret Village).
      You’re absolutely right about DRNM AND TTT. The Only argument I have to your comments on DRNM and TTT, is that those cards destroy so many end boards on their own not even including my list. Every deck has that FTK card it loses too (ash-branded, Evenly/Duster - Lab, Book of eclipes/ Destruction cards - Kash ect.
      It’s a pick your poison format for sure.
      But I love this interaction! Critiques like this only make the list better!
      I appreciate your comment!

      For dimension shifter, although it turns off a lot of our deck, we can skill kind of play through it and set up dragoon via branded fusion.
      Droll is def a tough card to play around… just accept you might lose when your opp plays it
