- Hello! In this video i'll be going over "need to know combos" from my latest dark magician deck profile. I hope you enjoy and if you have ways and suggestions for me to improve my videos! Please let me know!

I think you're correct. I played DM from late TOSS format until Verte's ban, and I still like to believe the "pure" builds with a large DM S/T lineup was the way to go, although later into the deck's lifespan myself and many others added in stuff like the Winda package. Post Verte-ban some people did experiment with the Branded builds, but never to much succes.
Right now, or rather a few weeks/months ago, Matchie came up with this build using the newer Branded cards, and he's absolutely knocked it out of the park. It sure inspired me to look into the deck again and I can't wait to start taking names once more.
i want to be honest, this is by far the strongest build ive seen in a while and i am glad that you did a combo tutorial, would be very cool if do some more variaty of decks, some non meta decks like cyber dragon as example. i like the way how you try to improve the deck and that could really help some players like me. who not really into meta. i was just lucky that i play DM and found your channel. it is just an idea of mine, but as i said, having someone like you that gives more non meta decks a chance would be sick..

something small with the duality rod souls line is you can make a possibly stronger field if they dont negate timaeus by making mysterion, then when you use their banish effect you can duality out the mysterion for dragoon and get another interaction. you wont have branded fusion on followup but i feel like yugioh is a bit too fast to worry about that as much, plus duality will still be giving you a draw next turn so its unlikely that you cant play. i think both combos are great ofc its more matchup dependent but just a small thing about duality with mysterion that i think is nice
Very interesting! I’ve thought about mysterion, but haven’t done enough testing with him in the ED to even think about lines of play like that!

@@MatchieYGOhes not crazy, but with timaeus existing in the deck and all the spellcasters hes really easy to summon so ive been running it when i can. its pretty rare for timaeus to actually make a dragoon since dm rarely is in the hand or on the field, but you have aLOT of possible spellcasters to use like dusk, rod, souls after drawing, so on. not 100% sure if hes worth the ED space but the synergy with duality plays is cute and making timmy a little less bricky is nice
The last combo, I knew exactly what play you were gonna do to see if you could draw into your starters or engine cards with the dark magicians lol really love this deck man.
Yeah! It’s so strong! Just being able to dig through your deck finding everything you need while having DM and DMG in grave for future soul servant’s is so strong!

Definitely thought process and side deck analysis on full matches over individual games, the cool thing I like about your content it's than it's not just netdecking but actual analysis of why certain interactions work, keep it up man.

@@MatchieYGO I bet the community could only benefit from it, also I've been thinking about your list and I've seen most of your videos do you absolutely feel there's no room for the one circle/soul maybe cutting rod to 1 since it can pitch itself back to hand, I know they're not the most impactful cards but they add so much utility to the vanilla DM.
Ive been really enjoying this build as of late vs my previous dragoon turbo build (credit to Loza). I hope you do an updated build going into the new format next year.

Wow, watching this video made me feel like a fool. i cannot tell you how many times i have wasted duality and rods search for another soul servant for next turn missing the secrets play. just did like 5 test hands and have made easily the dragoon winda village boards or dragoon winda and droll etc.

Anyway, instead of playing Winda I play Hido, the supreme Magical Force. Albion, the Sanctfire Dragon summons it on the opponent's field locking him entirely on summoning.

Only issue with it is that it’s a main deck monster that can brick on its own. But it’s still cool tech
@@MatchieYGO I use foolish burial for him or I just fuse him with branded fusion. I bricked once (online, I started 2 months ago and I've never been to a local sadly) with dmsome Bystials in hand but I just passed and the opponent made me play.

I was wondering what your play would be for when you draw into dark magician for your starting hand with a souls in hand. Is the dark magician a dead draw?

Might be because I've been on Master Duel, but I've found a lot of value in Magician of Chaos and running two ritual spells (Advanced R Art and Chaos Form) along with Magician Combination. The Ritual Spells either give you Illusion on board for a monster negate, or serve as hand/discard fodder that you replenish with Prep. Tested 2 Manju 2 Rod
It gives you another omni negate which combos very well with Salvation, and MoC is a soft once per turn which is very abusable with Eternal Soul, and can give you an extra 2-3 interruptions every turn. That's without Circle, which I put down to 1 and never looked back.
I also do not understand why people don't play Mahad. There's so much hand Manipulation now that I don't see it ever not being good, it's also a LIGHT Spellcaster that makes SS better.
Imo the decks identity also revolves around SS and draw power.

I played dm for 4 years ever since dark magical circle and eternal soul entered the game way back then. It was my first deck I ever picked up, with love and influence from the anime. 5 years total if we're taking master duel into account.
This is the first time I've come across your channel. And.. I respect the way this deck is built. I haven't seen anything like it, uses a lot of new cards and such.
My only issue is that it uses a heavy branded engine. Something im not familiar with, but worth experimenting. For how im used to playing the deck I fear it conflicts a lot with the 2 engines its trying to combine. However, I do appreciated there is someone out there who still wants to make this deck work, as I've given up starting a few months ago.
If we're playing branded cards to mix with this I feel playing branded by itself can do just fine, without dm cards.
While I do disagree with the list/gameplan, I still do enjoy seeing any form of love for dark magician.

Have you considered Guiding Quem? I've been using her, and while our decklists are slightly different, I've found her to be pretty damn good as another way for me to get the 2nd Blazing out of the deck.
Quem is really good. The only thing is that I don’t think playing it at 3 is “correct” but I also don’t think playing it at is worth it unless you’re playing Branded Opening. And at that point you need to consider playing Aluber and things like that.
I do like quem though, one of the best cards in pure branded, I just don’t think she has a spot in this particular list.

the deck is fire, been 4 years since last time i played this game, and glad DM and BE got their nostalgic bait.. meant support, is this deck good now? since it is one year that passed when this video dropped
Phenomenal video as always, Matchie. Now here's a question you got me thinking about with this one. I take your point about 2- and 3-card combos being more common than one might think because of how many cards in the deck search combo pieces. But, it does seem that the duel-defining plays hinge on 3 card combos. How well are you doing against Labrynth, since it reliably rips cards out of your hand even on turn 1 and your deck list has no negation hand traps? You could potentially be getting hand twice before you leave your draw phase. Also, how well are you playing through Ash Blossom when it negates something other than Rod? How resilient is the deck against Runick?
Unfortunately, that’s just the nature of the deck. PURE DM is already a deck that is filled with 2 card combos.
With dragoon being such a good boss monster you attempt to set him up first and foremost.
Also, with ash… typically the deck can play 2-4 cards before having to even attempt to resolve branded fusion, typically at that point you’re so far ahead that ash doesn’t matter. And if they do ash you before branded fusion, you just win

Knowing the full combos is really helpfull but I think to master the deck, all of us need to learn how to make the best out of non optimal hands.

Hiya brother, need some advice. So at my locals because of oppressive Secret village is, a lot lot more people have starting using more spellcasters, so I’m finding it to be a dead card at this point, any recommendations on what I could switch it for? I was thinking maybe summon limit, or the field spell that limits you to 3 summons per turn or it ends your turn
I think power spells, for example I’d look to main TTT or something like the books could be very strong especially when breaking boards…
I typically wouldn’t opt to play more floodgates unless it’s like rivalry if the warlords or Gozen… even then i don’t think they’re amazing right now

6:50 How does Timaeus still resolve despite having been sent to the graveyard? Doesn't this stop its effect from resolving? Thank you for the great videos!
Once Timaeus activates it’s effect, a
Fusion must take place unless it’s negated or the materials are no longer on the field/ in hand (in which case it fizzled). Timaeus doesn’t need to use itself as material, so even though it leaves the field the fusion still takes place with other materials on the field (using at least 1 spellcaster monster).

@MatchieYGO Thank you! It looks like Albion the branded dragon relies on the same effect when banishing cards for Lubellion. I'm quite new to Yu-Gi-Oh so trying to grapple with chaining effects - I guess I'll just have to remember to declare them all in the right order!
@@NinjaFlatfish in that specific instance, Albion has no effect because it wasn’t properly fusion summoned.

@@Mario25MC oh yeah, it hurt me to cut circle and ES too, sadly they just don’t have a place in 2023 yugioh :(
Maybe with more support we can fit them in again and make the triangle with less resources
@MatchieYGO Yeah, having support for the DM triangle would be awesome or even something completely different DM support with the new structure deck coming out, too.

@@Mario25MCno plans yet for the structure deck. I’m not going to put too my thought into it until we get an actual card list and release date… till then I’ll do the most with what we have and patiently wait for news :)

In the last test hand combo, how did you send shaddoll schism to the grave and add branded fusion?

I’ve thought about it! If rod eventually does get cut (assuming you don’t get support) the adventure package might be saucy!

I've been following your journey and I love your passion and calculations building this deck. Also, great combos, really!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 Please, do not take this as a critic to your deck or combos, at all. This is more of an observation of the sad current state of the DM deck. Take notice of how the first and second to last combo are practically all Branded and practically don't need DM for anything rather than material to make Dragoon. It's more of a Branded deck with a small Winda engine and a bigger Dragoon turbo engine. Again, this is not a critic of your build or way of playing, at the contrary, probably this is the best way of using DM in a deck. But it is simply how sad I feel that the deck is practically an engine inside a better deck like Branded. DM needs good support urgently. 😢

As for the rest of your comment, you have no idea how much I crave new support! The branded package although not ideal, it’s one of the many engines that we have to play to make the deck competitive.

I have multiple deck lists on my channel. The lsit for this specific video is “I got 1st place with dark magician”
Can I activate eff of Timaeus the united dragon to sumnon dragoon, use it and Dark magician as material. I see use use Duality to summon Albion then summon dragoon later. And I am wondering that the first way is wrong or not?
was thinking of building this deck is MD but Dragoon is banned, any other suggestions for this deck or should i find a different list that is more suitable without Dragoon?
Can I ask what bystial interaction(s) are you referring to? Opponent has a chance to respond when Souls effect to send ? Can’t they banish DM?
Bystials can only be a quick effect summon/ banish if you have a monster on field… so if you use souls first, they can’t even attempt to banish DM from grave because you have no monsters on the field (souls activates in hand)

Great deck! Love seeing dm seeing competitive. Also was wondering if there is any room in the deck to maybe incorporate the illusionist/chimera engine for added benefits to the deck?

For the illusionist side of things, I don’t think you should play the two together, there is zero synergy between the 2 archetypes.
But the deck is flexible, there are 10-13 spots in the deck to put in your tech
It's not related but I have to ask: you use two sleeves, the top transparent one I didn't find any online. Which brand is it?

Top combos 🙌 just checking on Magicians’ Souls - doesn’t its effect force you to put DM in the grave first? So it can still be hit by bystials?
Hey hey, so yes and no. Magician souls does send DM to the grave first, however if you control no monsters your opponents Bystials aren’t Quick effects and because souls activates form hand you can resolve the summon of DM or souls freely :)
Hope this clarifies (obviously you send DM to grave first, however for the purpose of fluidity of the video I just skipped that step haha)

Hey, great video! Got a quick question, on the 2nd combo, how were you able to use timaeus effect to fuse dark magician and albion after being sent to the GY by duality?
Timaeus doesn’t need to use itself to fuse.
Chain link 1 Timaeus, chain 2 duality sending timaeus to grave to summon Albion. Timaeus’ effect then resolves regardless if it’s in the graveyard, fusing the dragon (Albion) and dark magician to make dragoon.

im curious, what are you thoughts on potentially teching Bond Between Teacher and Student? Quickplay boardwipe with Dark Burning Magic seems pretty good
I tried it a bit in testing a few months ago, it’s very bricky. Also, It’s dead going 2nd, which is when in theory it should be at its best.
Maybe when DM gets new support it can be viable, but not in this list

what if they banish your dark magician with called by and dd crow and you cant keep recycling dm like you plan to do
With the way the deck is able to recycle it’s resources, recovering DM with branded fusion / Lubellion comes up so much. There are even lines where we banish our own DM.
So there isn’t much to worry about tbh

im just glad i can play thru an ash or an imperm rn.
Prep, ioc, cartesia and rod ate all the negates today. seems like i always had more to do.
played vs chaos bystial, very annoying but win 2-1
played vs rescue ace, good games. game 3 tie
played vs ninja warrior. kinda weird but won game 3 in time LP.
got 1st place again.
i really have no recommendations, im basically playing the same thing as you but with more bricks. dmg, palladium, circle etc
maybe rivalry, opponent always surprised and its mostly spellcasters. i hate it when they kaiju my dragoon.

@MatchieYGO thank you! I really want to run a DM deck, but the meta is very intense for an amateur duelist like myself
Why would you want to have two dragoons out? Wouldn't you want to save one is you lost one? Also I play a deck very similar to this but with the buster blader package, end board is secret village with dragoon, mirrorjade and buster blader (fusion with buster dragon) with cartesia in hand.
2 omni negates are better than 1 :) also, going second 2 dragoons is typically GG
In addition, if you lose 1, you can revive it when sanc… and absolute worst case you can shuffle it back with duality for a draw 1 and then have the ability to make him again :)
@@MatchieYGO yea but the negate is once per turn tho. Would you be able to pop two cards one for each dragoon? Also I really like playing branded banishment as a board breaker and fusion recovery. What are your thoughts on that card?
@@craigcostlow6180 no no, Dragoon is not a hard once per turn.. if you have 2 dragoons you can negate once with each of them :) (p.a yes both dragoons have a pop as long as you used DM to make them)
Branded banishment is cute, I tested it a bit, but it’s a win more, unfortunately if you open it it could make soem really awkward hands… but it is a good card, not denying that.
@@MatchieYGO how? It says once per turn tho. If that's the case then I kinda want to slap myself lol. I'll try it in omega. Yea I usually make starving venom with banishment if I'm in need of saving and also getting rid of their monsters is nice if they meet my cards requirements.

Hey man loving the deck build! I have a question, what if you have all the cards except cartesea, is the deck still playable?
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately Cartesia is the glue that holds the deck together. You can definitely get away with one if needed.
This option might not be as good, but nadir servent is a budget alternative that gets you winda and a few extra bodies on board (which you can replace Cartesia with)

If DM is ever banished you can shuffle it back with lubellion

Not really. You can utilize your banished cards.
Only way Bystials really hit the deck is in the grind game or if you don’t set up Dragoon before resolving your graveyard effects

Droll and lock bird (going 2nd ends their turn) nibiru kills the deck going 2nd aswell…
Going first, secret village of the spellcasters is very strong, and use the Dragoon negate in Robina :) hope this helps.

Im curious about the instances of imperm/veiler being activated against timaeus. Can the opponant not activate those cards in response to timaeus' summon? Or does the summon and effect happen in the same chain per se?
Long story short yes.. however “good-better” players won’t be burning resources like that, and will typically wait for an effect to be activated before attempting to negate with Imperm or veiler
@@MatchieYGO I understand what you're saying, I just feel like an experienced player would target and negate the effects of timaeus, albion, grangui upon summon, knowing their effects will change the field drastically. I've played yugioh for years but I'm still getting the hang of priority and where/when you can activate effects in response to things. Your help is much appreciated!
@@FlaminGinga Timaeus is the only one they can do that with.
Grang, Albion, Lubellion, those are all trigger effects which means they are the first things that happen on that chain.
So duality Absolutely works in dodging Imperm and veiler on those cards.

I'm wondering if chain material would go good with this deck or brick it. I'm trying to put a fun deck together that summons 3 dragoons with fusion gate and chain material but no matter what I try it's Bricky; the problems getting them out on the first turn cus I have to run things like makyura or temple of the kings plus three dark magicians.
I stopped playing for over a decade and I have only got back into the game on and off since 2020 so there's a huge gap in my card knowledge......
Also, as much as I would have liked to play more we couldn't because of China so I haven't kept up with the current meta and am still running my danger deck lol...
(say why, and it's censors, so I just say who's at fault; F---them, most of them are liars and racists anyways)
