I especially like the fall at the end. Ariel was just waiting for Eric to turn around and see her on the ground. It was sweet when he came and picked her up.❤️ Especially since she is badass and obviously could have done it herself. 😁
Good thing she didn't fall in front the shredder.. that would of been bad. I worked as a vol fire rescue and worked a few accidents that parts are all of folks that went through one
You reap what you sow, and I think you two are examples of attracting the right partner into your life. Y'all have a wonderful dynamic and clear respect for each other.
There is an old joke about a couple of first time hunters who actually were able to bag a nicely antlered buck and grabbed it by the hind-hooves to drag it to their truck. The antlers would catch in the brush and they would have to tug and yank and sit down often to restore their energy. An experienced hunter happened by and after watching their struggles suggested that it would be a lot easier if they were to drag the buck by its antlers. So they tried it. About a half hour later, one remarked, "That guy was right! This is sure a lot easier." The second responded, "Yeah, but we are sure getting a long way from the pickup!" I think the chipper works better when you feed the bottom end of a branch in first.... I could be wrong. 8^)
Love that you added some humor to your suggestion :) Although we often come across people that have good suggestions regarding the way we do things, it is always easier to listen to when presented in a thoughtful way :)
@@joelahn6269 By giving the wood much more surface area, it does break down faster. Putting the wood chips on pathways will help keep mud and weeds down. It also will help define your paths.
I live in the city limits of my little town in Florida, years ago I had 7 100ft pines and a huge oak tree cut down in my backyard. We took part of my chainlink fence down so they could maneuver this huge crane truck into the yard behind my house. They had a truck with a dump bed and a chipper a few sizes larger than Eric was using. They had a tree man they would put up in the branches of the pines, he would hook a barbed chain to the treetop then cut it with a chainsaw. The crane man would swing the top over my house and lay it down at the base of the chipper. The chipper had hooks that would help feed it into the chipper. Then the guy would shimmy down the tree and cut it at the stump. Then the crane man would lay the whole probably still 80ft tree down in the yard. They did the oak tree basically the same way. They took the canopy of it in 3 pieces, then cut the tree about 2 foot from the ground. He did all the while lifting it over my power drop line. They started that morning at 8am, by 3pm that afternoon, they had all 7 pines and the oak tree on the ground. They cut the trunks up into manageable pieces and came back the next day to load them up. They ground the stumps and level where the ground had gotten torn up with the skid steer. I noticed the tree man walked with a limp so I asked on of the other guys did he have knee problems. He said he had ankle/knee/hip problems because he had fallen out of a 100ft pine and shattered the joints of his right leg. And also had to have extreme surgeries on his face where he had crushed his cheekbones. I’m scared of heights to begin with, it gave me goosebumps watching them in the tops of those trees. After a fall like he had, I would have been far away from a tree.
For stumps outside the driveway area that you don't need to pull you can inoculate with the right fungi for the wood type to turn them into mushroom farms. The stump rots faster and you get spots to hunt for mushrooms. Just need to check the local trees for the right fungi type.
This video gives me nightmare flashbacks to when I was a kid. We heated with wood and my dad always had land that he wanted to build a cabin on and the work was massive. I lost every fingernail on both hands except for one pointer finger getting my fingers stuck between logs. (not all at the same time) Doing it as an adult didn't bother me much but as a kid it was awful. Still, I thank you for the video. It's much more fun to watch you work than it was to do it.
I've never seen 2 people who work so hard and so well together. You are blessed to have each other. May you be even more Blessed with all that you deserve 🙏 I love your channel ❤
So I just found your Channel and binged the last 2 years. I was born in Alaska and left just about the time you guys moved there. I do love watching your Channel and it makes me less homesick. I left mostly to be closer to my extended family that lived on the East Coast and to experience things like Broadway and Comic-Con. I do plan to move back in a decade or so. I had some suggestions from my own experiences. For the shower most of the places that I've experienced but have no indoor plumbing use a Banya instead. It's like a wood stove sauna a Sweat House. With the Sawmill you have you can probably make one pretty cheap for just the price of an old stove. Sometimes you can find them that need to be refurbished pretty cheap or even for free. They are the most awesome thing in the world. Also I think one of the coolest things to show the rest of the world about Alaska's farming community is the State Fair's big cabbages and pumpkins so maybe next year in the fall you can take your channel there. And one of my favorite crops for Alaska is rhubarb perennial grows really well and is very tasty. And I must say for tenderfoots you guys did really well and I enjoy your Channel.
I also just had another thought I know wood stoves give out a lot of heat, and some of that heat is in the stove pipe. I don't think you would lose much heat to your cabin if you put a corner in your stove pipe and ran it up the side of cabin. Then you could build a lean-to around the stove pipe making it heated. I don't think it would get as hot as the cabin but definitely warm enough to store your water tank and canned goods through the winter. Also I've noticed that you're good at scrounging windows so you could probably keep your view and start seeds in there too.
I recently found your channel. I have been watching all your videos. I keep worrying that I am going to run out of videos before you put out another one. You two have so much energy. All those stumps. So sad the number of infected trees that were killed off. I am sure whatever your plans are for the new land will no doubt nurture new growth of healthy flora. Poor Bo just does his best to keep up. I freaking laughed out loud when Ariel fell down and waited for Eric to notice. Sorry Ariel I am one of those friends who laugh before I can assist when my friend falls down.
Another lovely movie. You’re to be commended for both your hard physical labor and your creative work putting together a beautiful film about wood chipping. Who knew wood chipping could be so mesmerizing? Great choice of music, too!
Watching this video made me think of just how hard our pioneers and settlers had to work. And, they did not have a chipper. Boy, we sure have become soft as a nation. Of course, you two are an exception.
I love this channel so much, from the very beginning. When I was a kid I always fancied Grizzly Adams’ lifestyle, should have gone for it. Keep it up guys, you bring a lot of peace and joy. Best wishes always.
As always, just love your videos. We're at 6 months and counting before our move to Fairbanks from Washington state! The music you play in your videos is always appropriate and just wonderful. Thanks for your efforts to share your adventures and everyday life with us.
You two, by far had the best garden yield. Your meals look absolutely wonderful too. It just amazes me all the canning and meat prepping you do, so easily. No matter how daunting the job is, you both team up to get it done. I've been watching for a while. Can you tell? Thanks for the high-quality videos. Please keep them coming for those of us living vicariously thru' you both.
Another hard day's work you two beautiful soul's. Amazing yummy fresh Beetroot. The Beatle that is killing those tree's in Alaska breaks my heart. Ariel I hope you were ok at the end. Sorry I had a laugh. Hug's to you both "Beau", "Bandit" and adorable Cat, sorry forget her name, I do remember beautiful "Hunter" 🥺 from Australia.
How cool yall will have all this great video to look back on when yall are snug in your home to come. 🙂 Seems your fur babies were assisting with taking care of some of that brush.😄 Oh yes, those wood chips are a blessing...will feed and insulate. I enjoy watching yall's journey.🙂 Continue to be well...yall are in my prayers. You guys are so cute!🙂
I loved the ending. I am just the same. I would have waited to to be hauled up. Even though I could have gotten up. And my husband would have sauntered over to. But he would have said what the hell is wrong with you and pulled me up. With laughter. I am sure Eric probably had a similar reaction. Beautiful. hugs
Me and my partner love these videos, making us country bumpkins wanting to move out into the wilderness 🌲🌳⚘🌷. Can see how much hard work you put into everything you do and it looks awesome 👌
😂Eric do you ever get excited? LOL Ariel was on her butt and Eric politely walks over to help her up and didn’t even get excited about if his help was hurt or not. I just about died laughing at that. Anyway great video and you both are really hard workers. I just get excited about what you guys come up with on this property. Sending love all the way from VA.❤️
You are doing very well cleaning up the property. Chipping is the way to go. I see people burn up a wonderful resource. Thank you for sharing this with us.

You two are amazing with getting “projects” done. Really enjoyed seeing the dogs having fun. I hope Ariel doesn’t have any lasting effects from that fall!
You two continue to amaze me! I love watching you create this amazing life together! I did my first canning because of watching your videos and I am now waiting to try my cowboy candy!! As an Australian your snow just amazes me! I've binged watched every video almost and can't wait to see what happens next! Love
We can't wait for your next videos. Very inspiring and envious of your surroundings. Our garden and cellar is full of wonderful produce and I finally grew purple carrots!!
I ran a 13 inch MDR Diesel in Hawaii for 3 years... Those chips under the garden beds would do a couple things,, hold water. add air, fluff the soil & give off heat...Love all the hard work, you guys do.. It was 19 here this morning..,, Looks like you have plenty of logs left for a log cabin!!! Aloha
I could tell Ariel was tired, glad she did not hurt herself. Our heat index is 96 today, we could use a cold front. Those beets look so good. Stay warm & safe.

MAN DOWN MAN DOWN!!! :-)

So cute how Ariel stayed down after she fell until she got noticed, lol!
America needs more people like you two, really badly.
well, there will be no more trees in america... :D

Wood chipping is so much better than burning, great asset for vegetable garden, floor covering for the chicken etc... and that wonderful smell 😊
Chipping is addictive. I find myself looking for additional debris just to watch it fly!
What's the idea behind chipping into the woods? Does it just allow them to decompose faster?

How many people could smell the wood being chipped while this was playing. I could in my head. Love that smell

Great job getting the chipper those big ones are great. Later on if you decide to get a chipper get the kind that attaches to your future tractor. Less engines to have to winterize. Smart.
good job guys! warm greetings from cold Siberia! keep up the good work
im glad to see ur being smart eric by wearing protective gear while u r wood chipering ha!lol-chipering.but it still looks fun.
Hard work is a job well done. Wood chips are great in the chicken coop. They give off heat as they decompose, nice for winter bedding.

Love watching your life in Alaska! The projects never end but you make them fun!
Good vid. You guys are the hardest workers. Love your channel. God Bless
