- Work in the garden now will pay off with future harvests of produce.
With the ground thawing, we take advantage of the opportunity to replant our asparagus crowns and build up the bed for better drainage.
The potatoes and peas are planted with time to sow other root crops and our high tunnel is completed with a freshly milled planter box for basil transplants.
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀

Working hard with a pair of hands, for own food,
I admire both of you, from zero to everything. Today both of you have everything.
Thanks you,
Stay blessings and loving ❤😊
After being laid up with multiple surgery's, I'm slowly working myself back into my raised bedsc gardens. In my absence, the whole garden died off and this year is not only restoration for me, but our garden. The one thing missing, was your show. So hot in the Carolina's d this week, so we're inside drinking some ice tea and learning from you'r shows. You and your husband are so down to earth and just nice folks to visit with!. My garden is on the mend and so am I. Have a great day!
Mr. Ed.
It's one thing to read about people doing this or seeing some movie, but both of you are so good at filming and editing that it feels like I'm a nosey neighbor getting to witness your lives. Thank you so much.
So true, FACTS … we all nosey and love to be alllll up in Eric and Ariel’s business lol 😂
Nosey Rosie ;)
I am another nosey neighbors.
Love you
Deb
Yep, they have 500k nosey neighbours lol.
I love watching you two. It makes me feel really good seeing young people being self sufficient. Can’t wait to see the harvest again.
My dears u already know yr Home stead and surroundings speak loudly! My God just Gourge and y'all busted Arse for 2 yrs, more than most ppl even care to do in a life time!! Not to mention harsh winter's, my hat goes off to u both..💖💙💖
Pepper sneaking around the garden behind you is my favorite part of your videos. 💖
Been watching for a year now and love this! One thing pleaseeee throw in the lunch break cooking !! I love seeing what you guys make from the land it’s incredible !!
Love you both. You fill many moments in my life. Your “togetherness” and cheer joy in your work is contagious. Bless your precious lives. 👍❤️
Yes......
Long time no see ii miss you all
It is so soothing to watch you plant the seeds, and care for the earth & crops. Takes me back long ago to CO, and I still miss it! THANK YOU so much for sharing, I love the every day tasks of homesteading. You are doing it right! and so much younger than Me, so please hold your dream and living reality close to your Hearts. I know You do~~
My preschool class will be planting bucket gardens tomorrow. In a five gallon bucket we plant a potato in the middle then plant onion sets around the circumference and finally put a few radish seeds on top. Your video was timed perfectly. The children will watch you garden during rest and relax time then plant their own gardens to tend and enjoy over the summer. Thank you for your honest and direct presentations . p.s. The children always applaud Eric when he fells a tree!
What a great idea, awesome job!
What awesome content! Such a great setting you’re able to use this in. I loved teachers like you! You can tell you do more than create an assignment.
I'm amazed at all the potatoes you get from what you plant. I have been binge watching your videos. After living in Alaska, I can relate to a lot of you both go through. Not planting crops, just the environment and nature.
I can’t say it enough that you 2 are amazing. You work so very well together. I just can’t wait to see how much y’all end getting. Please keep posting I enjoy watching everything you do. You are living a lot of people’s dream life. God Bless y’all. I also enjoy seeing the cat helping you out. Love you!
I agree, I love seeing Pepper. She is beautiful.
Enjoying watching y’all’s videos for a break. Way better than watching the news.
I bet the high tunnel smells so good now. I love the raised bed for the basil. So cool and looks really good too. I am so excited about gardens going in! Especially y'all's garden. You're in my top five fav list by far for gardens.
Wow!! Not like you didn't have your garden work cut out for you. Then, the asparagus! That's why y'all have such a great big yield. ABUNDANT!!! Such great care with the ground, compost, top soil, Nitrogen, Bone Meal, Blood Meal, straw...
And the beat goes on! The green salsa looked delicious & we could tell y'all loved it! Plenty of 'onyuns' ("Deep South Bama With Mr. Tom")
Basil plants are just beautiful! You can tell they're going to taste great!! Much hard work but your young & it's delightful to watch your lives working out on your homestead. This summer is going to be great on the water to the other place! God bless you all. (He is!!) 🙏❤🙏🤗👵
You know city folk take for granted what it takes for us to have food farm to the table. I remember back in the 60s everyone had large gardens in our yards. We have a small hobby garden. I have learned so much from use to increase our yield. We grow and love lots of potatoes as well. Retired with health issues living vicariously through others like your selves. The chainsaw mills are great and you put the battle kill to good use.
Can't get enough of your gardening videos!!!
41 people are afraid of chickens clucking and crowing .... who knew ~8^) Take care Eric & Ariella ... garden looks wonderful!
Eric says ..." so we had to buy 2- 2X4's ... it wasn't pretty ". I was dead.😂 Am I the only one who thinks Eric and Ariel's sense of frugality and wit is hysterical ? Keep at it !
Thanks. I know that it’s a lot of hard work for you, but, for the viewer, so relaxing!
Plant comfrey on the outside edge of the veg garden to create a hardy rhizome barrier against forest growth. The foliage is also incredible food for the chickens, or mulch for your plants, and the flowers are great forage for your bees.
After a stressful day I look for your newest videos and when I find one I have to put it on hold while I pour a glass of sangria and light some bug chasers and a candle! I sit on my patio and enjoy the music 🎶 and can hardly wait for morning so I can work on my garden! You two do so much and although you are busting your butts, I can’t help but be a little jealous! My dreams of moving to Alaska are gone! Being by myself I could never accomplish what you do! GOD BLESS YOU BOTH! Thank you so much! ❤️💙💚
Great tea with lemon verbena. Soothing and can help you sleep.
Love the basil box!!! Get Eric to make a few more for extra vegetables, herbs and flowers, maybe place them in the orchard, love the rustic look too!!!!
I really enjoy how you two work together so well. Reminds me of my husband and i on our farm. You are so knowledgeable about so many things. I am very impressed. Always come away with some new nuggets of information. Your two are very dedicated and hard working people. God Bless you.
👍👍 Basil box 👍👍 nice job. Great video guys.👊👊
I love all of your gardening and preserving videos! I live in zone 5b and so I learn a lot from watching how you manage to grow food so well!
Ariel you braid is so cute!!!!
You have taught me some of the biggest lessons in life, to be self sufficient and to be appreciative of my rural life. Thank you🤗☀️💚
I enjoy the videos. As I watch and I see you growing and harvesting your crops and I watch the way you prepare and eat foods I cant help but think you are probably two of the healthiest peeps on the planet! Salud!
That raised planter came together beautifully!
Love you both. You fill many moments in life . Your "togetherness" and cheer joy in your work is contagious. Bless your precious lives.
Love your videos, you and your husband are very patient with all of your daily tasks.
That chainsaw mill is genius!!! And the planter looks great!
Enjoyed your video. It’s the simple things that make me happy and I walked into the house tonight, I had a huge excited look on my face. I told my husband “The carrots are up!” I did the happy dance in the kitchen. I can’t remember the last time I was this happy. All the best with your gardens this year. You both worked hard, planned ahead and are trying new varieties of seeds. I love that you share this information. Learning new varieties is so helpful.
I love that Saw mill!!!
Walla wallas are so big and sweet, people eat them like apples. And use them to make ice cream in Walla Walla Washington. It's so nice they named it twice.
Been following you guys for about a year and binged watched everything I could previous to following. I must say I’m very impressed that you two are not only surviving but flourishing in one of the hardest places to live. Tells a lot about you guys.love the content keep up the excellent work
I planted my potatoes whole this year and they are doing very well and much better than last year when I cut them up.
Look forward to your videos so much. You and Eric are inspiring! We want to pickle some eggs after watching you too!
I just love you guys planting and listening to your recommendations!Learn quite a lot! Looking already for your harvest! Pretty cool!😀👍
First of all this is the perfect example of our two sexes living in balance and harmony with one another. I think a telling aspect of this harmony is your genuine thoughtfulness and awareness of the other, frequently complimentary and almost always welcoming of each other's perspective. Next, your videography combined with your choices for musical complement are theater quality. Finally, the fact that I don't recall you ever asking me to hit the thumbs up button, subscribe, and click the bell notification is why I have chosen to do all three.
You present rarified air. I appreciate your sharing. :)
Love who u guys work together getting the garden together ...it's my highlight to watch y'all work together it does my heart so good. Ariel & Eric I wish I had the knowledge y'all have for planting knowing what's what it's awesome !!
The birds are chirping as you gently settle the soil around those seeds. Surely I am watching Heaven on Earth. Thank you so much for this glimpse into your life.
Good healthy living. Two hard working young people
I could watch your videos all day, I just love them ! Celery tuber is actually the part of the celery plant that we traditionally eat most in Germany. You can do a lot of things with them : together with a carrot, some leek and parsley it goes in any broth and many soups, you can rasp them in salads together with carrots and apples, boil them and then fry the slices after turning them in egg and breadcrumbs like a Schnitzel, prepare them like french fries and so on.
I can imagine that it's hard to grow asparagus in the Alaska climate. Even here where the season usually starts in early April we are late because of the cold spring this year and Asparagus is still too expensive ( in Germany we harvest the white Asparagus before it sticks its head out of the ground). So good luck with your gently groomed plants !
I have garden envy!!!
Eric playing with the kitty in the background was cute! Arielle sporting some serious oomph to lift that log! Another fantabulous video! Left me with cravings for carrots and potatoes...
I so enjoy these garden videos. So many good ideas for my garden. Great tips for building and improving good soil. I'm learning so much. Thank you for sharing.
ya'lls videos are such a welcome break from the day to day grind. Thank you so much for uploading!
I have really enjoyed your videos over the past year that I've been watching. I also really love that your videos are longer than most. I usually don't like long videos, but yours are very inspiring and interesting. It's a great way to start my morning by watching what you've shared. I love seeing what you are doing, how you are living, and listening to you explain your lives. Thank you for sharing your life in such a great way.
Great little herbal bed. So rustic and beautiful
Indeed you two really do understand each season of the year and what tasks must be accomplished in each one. And it gives me great satisfaction that the 2 dogs and Pepper enjoy the ever changing climate there in Alaska.
Terrific job on the basil box👍 I like unique, odd, different. when my son builds something for me I get SO excited. My thing is shelves... can’t seen to have enough 🤣.
I still can’t believe you grew all your seedlings in the house😳. I’m trying to visualize working around everything 🤪. You two are ALWAYS doing something & I’m so happy that you take us on your journey. Love you guys 🥰
Living my dream thru you 🤩😍
So much planning you do for your planting season, and like other years hoping that you have a wonderful harvest. Really appreciate what you do and share with the viewers. I think that you're an amazing couple.
Me, too!
You could build a log cabin addition on to the back of your cabin. Then frame and insulate and put 2x 8 or 10 slab's on the walls ( inside). Log flooring that is squared 6x6 or 8x8's. Keeping the door shut between it and the main room it may stay cool enough for a "root cellar" but not cold enough to freeze. Just an idea. Basil looks great, well everything is looking great already. Can't plant here in northern MI till next week. And our weather has been up and down and all over the place. Thanks for sharing. God bless
Good idea!
Arielle, The walking plant dictionary. Great job!
That raised bed construction was so badass. 😍
What a blessing you two are. Such hard work and you know it will pay off in the long run.
that home made raised bed is AWESOME!
I love that you plant nontraditional veggies and cover the entire rainbow when you do it! Best gardeners out there!
You're image capture along with music choices are really amazing! You guys just keep evolving and getting stronger. Just always beautiful to watch.
best way to live, grow your own foods, live closer to the nature, good weather. sounds like different planet to me
My favorite time of year for your channel 🥰 seeing the fruits of your labor over the next few months will be so satisfying!
Looooove your garden, cooking, and preservation videos.
Eric and Arial, we really love what you guys are doing. The garden videos and your remote cabin videos are my favorite. Great job guys!
You folks are really awesome with all that you do. I know you can store carrots in totes. Drill holes in lid(1/8 th dia.) then with damp sand put a layer down then place carrots on top. Repeat till you get to top then cover and store in a dark cool place
If I was a garden, I wanted to be yours. 🌻🧚♀️
Love watching you work in your garden. You have so much knowledge about how to grow veggies. Here's to an awesome harvest!
I've never been to a site to where you just do everything. It's almost like you get up in the morning and just start looking for your work gloves. Then it's off 2 building something. They make you feel so much apart of their sight that's really really cool.
I would love to see a video on where you put everything in your home. And outside of your home. It would be interesting
@Teresa Allor ...
Just check out their previous videos. Their life is thoroughly documented , everything they want to share with us all is in their videos. Go check them out.🤗
Teresa allor look back in there video's i belive in the past 6 month's there is one that covers that topic
I look forward to your uploads every week they are always amusing and fun to watch
So soothing to watch you two garden. I’m unable to, so I live vicariously through your talents and gift. Loved the raised bed Eric made! Especially since it was made from your land and you didn’t have to spend astronomical prices for lumber!
I LOVE lemon verbena tea! Mmmmmm...so good, warming and uplifting on a dark, cold winter night.
The raised bed basil box is so awesome! Love it.
Love watching you guys in the garden and I love hearing your rooster and hens in the background. ❤️🥰❤️
I can tell that this year you will have a super awesome yield and harvest. Very excited for you and can't wait to watch the process. Mother Nature's blessings for your garden and for all your hard work...🙏🙏🙏
What I learned: There is such a thing as Cuban basil. You can make an awesome basil box out of a dead tree. Actually you guys can make almost anything out of leftovers and scraps. And you might have enough tomatillos for green salsa to get you through the winter...maybe!! Another awesome video!!
You have inspired me to get up and grow something. I am growing basil and tomatoes. Love your video's I honestly could watch you both everyday and not get bored. Thank you for another amazing video to educate and entertain us
Gardening is a love of mine! Have a small one right now would like to plant more. Potato 🥔 storage idea!!! Find a old chest freezer that doesn’t work bury it and store you root crops in it in boxes. I saw it online and thought of y’all.
It still just amazes me I can get all this information for free! I have learned a lot from your gardening videos this last year and my garden was good last summer and will be better this year! I might try asparagus too.
They're doing the Most I've seen on You Tube. And with joy & laughter! And some great eats & with Bo & Bandit! And the chickens & rooster. 🙏❤🙏🤗👵
💯💞
And Pepper. ❤🌶 getting BIG!
Watching your gardening videos makes me so jealous! I wish i had an outdoor space to do some of my own gardening. Love your videos~
Garden looks amazing!!! All your hard work will be rewarding.🙏❤🌶🧄
I loved this video. Thanks for all the good content.
Y'all are amazing and I totally enjoy watching y'all build your garden and Thank you for sharing and caring 🍀🍀💗💗💗
Sweet onions dehydrate very nicely... they get a bit of caramelized flavor. It's my favorite thing to do with the sweets when they get to the end of their keeping time.
Your planting videos are my second most favorite. My most favorite is the Harvest and watching you pull up the bounty of your efforts! Well, I love them all actually, but wanted to play with your loving to dig the potatoes up comment...
Potatoes - I respect your method of doing what works, year after year. Why fix it if it ain't broke. However - if you can afford the space, time and effort, you might consider planting (experimenting with) a couple of feet-length of cut spuds. To see if it would work for you there. Then compare your investment to yield.
But, I am already excited the for the cornucopia that's coming your way from your beautiful garden!
Absolutely absolutely love this video. I love you explaining everything you plant and what you do to each item👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I am living vicariously through you guys. I seriously love seeing your tours. Just the satisfaction you must get from growing your own food must be amazing! I also enjoy your food videos when you make a meal. Delicious!
Great wood working skills Eric, the raised bed came out great plus you made your girl happy ❤️ The title for this video was perfect because you two work so hard for your food. You’re amazing my friends.
Eric is becoming the handy handyman!!
Hello, from Greece. I truly enjoy your videos and I love your content. You both work so, so hard and yet manage to smile and make us all feel part of your family. Thank you for the wonderful content. 💚🌻
I love the basil table. So amazing to use wood for your land to create the things you need. 💜
wonderful. Eric has some amazing skill and I love your guys commeradery you two just click so well together. It makes watching your videos fun.
Love and positive energy from us!
Basil bed is awesome! So happy a new video to feast upon!
I am absolutely amazed at the amount of knowledge and work ethics you guys have! I could watch you all day! Practically have lol
Wow, what a beautiful garden. I always planted twice as much as I needed, if half of them didn't die, I would just share them with friends. Asparagus is a tough one, takes a few years, but I love them so much. Love the video, thanks for sharing. Jimmy
Great tips as usual. Love the little planter box build. Might make one of those too. So far this is looking like our best growing year up here. Hope you guys have a great growing season as well.
Wow, I am super impressed with the Basil Bed..lol I was like, what the heck is he doing and then BAM, there it was..lol
I learn so much about planting and growing veggies from you two. 😄
