I got a kick out of the people over at Sow The Land. They were showing off their squash harvest and how they got their seeds from Meg and Ben.
    Love how you all support one another. 🙏 That's what it's all about. 🎃 🥚 🍃 🍂 🍁

I'm with you on the garlic scape pesto Ben! My first year this year, making it from the hardnecks I planted last year. All of it turned out great, and I can't wait to plant the hardnecks again! I actually froze some pesto to put on the Ford hook lima beans that I am growing.

I have a suggestion on how to make more storage for you guys! Build bench seating for your dining room table with a hinging tops. You can put a removable shelf in the middle so you can stack glass jars in 2 layers. Or you can put food grade buckets in it to free up space in other areas. I know you said you need places to store preserve food. Just an idea.

Yes, the US labor force participation rate is higher than it’s been since the start of the pandemic, and less than a percentage point off what it was before then. It’s not that “nobody wants to work.’ Rather, some employers are finding it harder to hire people for the wages and conditions they’re offering.

Sad part is rhat "no one wants to work" it's the wages, no one wants to work for a wage that does not cover basic living expenses. Working 2 jobs to raise a family does not leave time for the family.
Spouse is a retired contractor hired people with a liveable wage and was never short of workers.

Have you thought about using dish washing soap on the squash bugs? Just take a spray bottle and pour an inch or two of the soap in it and fill it up with water. shake it up a little and spray the bugs and it should kill the bugs by smothering them. If it doesn't work use more soap.

You are so right about squash knowing you want them to grow! This year ONE tromboncino survived the drought. I was so, so proud. It had one squash, and a serious mess of male and female flowers when I had last checked it. But I very carefully moved its vine so it would stay in the bed, because it was heading across and area that gets mowed, into the cow field of our neighbor. A few days later I went out there, the vine was yellow, and my one squash bounced. Boinga, boinga. Like a slinky. I literally cried. Maybe next year.

They were delicious I haven’t seen them since❤

I live alone and I can only grow a couple of large pots of ordinary potatoes in my space, so it's enough for me, but the difference from the first pot harvested to the second pot a month later was astounding. I harvested the first and covered the second one to prevent it being a mud bath dig. I was growing Charlotts, my favourite waxy potato. It was more than double the first pot, and larger potatoes. So, when you think it's harvest time for spuds, cover and wait another month after chopping down the stems, they carry on growing :)

We love our golf cart! We bought it from a family member that had lost a spouse (my aunt) that we use at the river cabin but since getting our new homestead, it definitely makes getting around and hauling small stuff easier! Because of the back step, it kept getting drug on concrete so we lifted it and put bigger tires on it as well. Now we have no problem with loading-unloading or hills-sudden ditches and getting hung up.
Yes, it over and doesn't feel like I even got started good! Lol

A cart of some sort is such a blessing! We use our lawn tractor with a trailer and it is so nice for so many things. We don’t have a big farm, just 3 acres, but still, lugging everything in a wheelbarrow is work.

Try this for a delicious way to prepare Cushaw . Peel it , scoop out the pulp & seeds . I use a good vegetable peeler .Then cut it into 2 inch cubes . Start sauteing the cubes in a frying pan with enough olive , etc oil to prevent sticking . When about half cooked thru , add a few pats of butter , drizzle real maple syrup over it & sprinkle with cinnamon . Cook on low heat . I also sprinkle coconut & walnuts in . Cook till done , but not mushy . IT IS DELICIOUS !!
The very 1st Cushaw we bought was from our favorite apple orchard . All I knew was it was a winter squash . The owner said that most of the ' pumpkin ' pies in restaurants are actually made from Cushaw .
