Thanks Bill! We will head back up for Christmas so in the next video I’ll try and convince her to be on camera. She has done such an amazing job! Thank you for watching and the lovely comment ☺️
Finally a homestead in my kind of climate! I live in India and mostly get to watch videos of American homesteads. I follow a couple of Australian growers but your mom's property is the closest to what I've got. Including snakes, rodents and a dog who hates these intruders! Great to see a garden in SE qld where I live, makes a lot more sense and she is certainly growing every possible fruit tree! Love to know how she handles the QLD Fruit Fly? She works so hard, thanks for doing the video for her!
She said this “Fruit flies are terrible! the nectarines have become chook food. I tried netting last year but the tree didn’t like that. The fruit flies are fine with citrus but not good with nectarines and peaches. They leave my plums alone.” 🤷🏼♀️
12:35. That looks like a Star Apple or Caimito tree. Gorgeous golden colour underneath the leaves. Beautiful place and love your mum's comments behind the camera.
Jaboticaba trees are one of my favourites! They are just beautiful small trees, at about 3M, and I love their bark and small leaves. The black shiny fruit, which tastes like woody grapes grow in their hundreds, all over the trunk and branches, close together, in clumps, and taste divine….. I can’t stop eating them when I start. I also love picking the fruit off the branches. I read somewhere that trees that produce fruit on their trunks and branches are very ancient trees! I don’t know if this applies to Jaboticabas. That mango tree needs to be moved! - They’re beautiful massive trees. This one is growing between an orange tree and another fruit tree, so there just isn’t any room for it where it is, even at the size it is now. The younger it is when it’s moved, the better. There’s nothing like home grown mangos! I also live in SEQ, and it’s been my dream to live like this, though 1 acre would be enough for me. - I’m older than your mother. And without the snakes! lol. Thankyou for this guided tour. You packed a lot into it. Loved hearing your Mum off camera. This is obviously been a labour of love for her, and it shows. Just stunning!
Thanks so much for the great info about the Jaboticaba trees! I’ve let mum know because she inherited the tree and wasn’t too sure about it. Also great advice re the mango tree!! 🥭
@@kiajadeurbangardener - You’re more than welcome. My parents had one in their yard and unfortunately we had to sell the house. I miss the house, and that tree. Your Mum is very lucky to have a jaboticaba. I don’t know how well mango trees transplant, but it would be good to give it a chance. I think eventually it would kill the fruit trees either side, as it gets bigger, by starvation, because it’s such a majestic tree. It depends what plants you prefer in that area.
So nice to see a bush block in Queensland, with a very different climate to mine here in Victoria. I'd love to grow some of those fruit trees but our winters are freezing here and we get heavy frosts. Your mum's property looks amazing! Just came in from a solid day of raking, in preparation for our bushfire season ❤
It definitely gets cold in Victoria - Such a different climate to Queensland, but good on you for getting ready for the bushfire season! Thanks for watching 🥰

Hello to your mum I Love her garden, don't worry I have been bitten by 2 brown snakes so far and although I was very, very sick I didn't go to the doctors, now my thyroid is playing up but I'm working on that too, I now have a huge brown snake hanging around, so I have to keep my eyes out for it, I live in NE Vic
Wow two brown snakes?!?! And you were ok? You didn’t go to the doctors? Did you wrap the bite! Definitely hope you manage to keep far away from the one that’s hanging around at the moment.
@@kiajadeurbangardener No I stayed really still for at least 3 days and got very very ill until I could barely breath, it goes through your lympthatic system not your blood stream, it took me a good 2 years to recover from the first one before the second one got me, I had different symptoms with the 2nd blinding headaches and nausia, my thyroid jammed off and they said it would never recover but I studied about it and took magnesium as the venom blocks your magnesium working, it now has come good and is jammed on so I have been working on it and have managed to get the swelling of the thyroid down and the heart pulpitations are ok, stay safe
I’m in south east Queensland as well. Can get some harsh weather here that for sure. The growing climate can be very challenging. I’m actually sinking water to help in between rain events.

Your mother's garden looks really beautiful. It also seems that she enjoys watering with a hose, but it takes a lot of time and the amounts of water are not equal. Have you considered making an automatic irrigation system for the vegetable garden and plants that need frequent watering? And in general for all the plants according to the needs of each group? This seems to me to be a very good investment for the future. I would appreciate a response from you. 🙏 Like your mother, I also live in a very hot area and we grow many plants imported from Australia. All our gardens, including public gardens, are watered by an automatic system adapted to the needs of the various plants.
Thank you! Yes she has actually purchased an irrigation system and I believe is planning on setting it up shortly because you’re right, it can take her hours to water the garden so I think she is looking forward to having it automated!
