I never thought hugging was awkward... even when awkward moments arise. I just laugh it off and I see the tension going away :) Hugging is a form of saying "I care enough for you to let you in my personal bubble" and I love feeling that it's mutual ^.^
+Gabriela Centurion Neumann I definitely agree that that is what hugging should mean. But I think like a lot of things, a big factor of how you grew up. Some people grew up where hugs were just common and natural. It was just very rare when I grew up, so instead I always felt anxious just before a hug. It sounds strange, but you think to yourself what if you do it wrong, what will they think of you. Especially in Europe when it's customary to give kisses on the cheek when greeting, it's always different, lol. But I still love hugs... :)

I use to be a hug hater. I went through a trauma and it put me off physical contact of any kind. I didn't want to appear clingy or needy or weak. but then a new girl came to my school and became freinds with me and my close friend at the time. she was bright and bubbly and happy, she just wanted to hug everyone. we're all really close friends now, but she really helped my getting over my fear of physical contact or the simple physical intimacy of a hug. now I love hugs, love giving 'em love getting 'em

As somebody who loves hugs but is an extreme introvert, I'm constantly torn on weather or not to hug my friends.... especially my crush.
I love a good hug! I just react to how the other person hugs and adjust accordingly (close, far away, side, barely, haha)... whatever they seem to be most comfortable with. But I love a good strong proper hug -- which lots of people don't do -- that's when you really feel the love!!

One of the many symptoms of anxiety is that you don't like being touched. I have severe social anxiety and there is nothing I hate more than being touched without consent, not just with strangers but with friends and family that I am close to.
Everyone thinks I hate hugs because whenever I'm hugged, I blush and tense up. I like them personally...

I think all hugs are great hugs. As long a s they're consensual. One thing I like about my friend group is we all love hugs, and we are all so close to each other it's normally not a big deal if we just randomly hug each other. It's nice.
