The bass vocal must be an amazing bass player because his vocal dynamics and tone are just perfect!
You must be an amazing musician, because Alvin Chea does indeed play upright bass.
Lol u ain’t heard NOTHING till you’ve heard him live... it’s crazy man
Just look at his right hand when he sings and you know he plays
Absolute beast of a man. Sounds uncannily similar to an upright with his percussive attack and enormous low-end. Face-melting
100%
That dude singing the bass part!
Mark JK Lawrence He's a silverback ! Dude sounds like a monster !
Mark JK Lawrence your are referring to the Mighty Alvin Chea!!
Topflight Style a silverback? the fuck?
marie watson Another way of saying he's a beast . You couldn't put that together. Wake up .
I KNOW!!! Damn!
Jacob performing with Take 6... my life is now complete
Exactly my thoughts!
Indeed it is!
mine too
Nice post, I agree
Liking all comments and in agreement with everybody! Legendary collab!
Marty mcfly: I guess you weren’t ready for that yet, but your kids are going to love it.
Perfect description of this, most people dont like it but appreciate it more when you listen to more of Jacob's work
Ditto
This comment is almost perfect.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That was the most underwhelming applause in history
It's in a television studio, not a concert hall. There might have been 12 people there.
Its very VERY upsetting to me... even if it could be that there were only 12 or a couple more people.
I just get so into it 🙃
It takes a special ear to even understand what just occurred there. That '12' probably just dont have it...or they do and its stunned clapping as they process... 😳🤯
@@singit3630 The problem with JC's music encapsulated in a comment 😂
i think 12 people is an overstatement.. sounds like less than 10 and at least half of them are hooting and hollering. it's just a tiny, happy audience :D
Its entertaining to see the comments in here that are supposedly critiquing a group that hasn't met its vocal match in the entire 35 years of it's existence. You all are so cute.
I totally agree
Take 6 is fine... that lead singer is complete garbage.
Sal Hardy yeah Jacob Collier really is just the least talented artist I’ve seen in a while
@@charliemurdockmusiccmon now Jacob Collier is talented. He might not be everyone's taste but this guy has talent.
Eric G sarcasm does not transmit well over text.
What a time to be alive.
We are not worthy!
We are not my man!
“80s music is the best!! What do you mean?? (Uneducated people)...
I knew I would find an sda somewhere in these comments lol x
I see people needing to "defend" this performance. Is this seriously necessary? Y'all should be grateful for the privilege of being alive to witness this.
exactly.
The reason this is amazing is because Jacob is performing his arrangement with one of his biggest inspirations and influences
This is one of the most ambitious performances of all time
these guys are singing notes that haven’t been invented yet 🤣
In a good way.
truest comment ever 👌🏼🤣
Not possible - but totally.
😂
7 geniuses singing together. Thanks for this moment.
3:16 nailed it!
gosh it was perfect
dude that part is fucking gnarly holy shit
That LOW C SHARP THOUGH FROM THE BASS
The Black Circle no need to flex your perfect pitch like that :(
What a range Jacob has! He sang the tune very well with relative ease, and not to mention his head voice was very well-supported as well, blending well with his chest register without trouble. We all talk about the man's genius musicianship (which he certainly has, otherwise he will not be hanging out with Quincy Jones and Herbie Hancock of all people), but not many actually speak highly of his vocal ability - it is very underrated IMO!
it was the only instrument he was formally trained on! (besides piano, i guess)
anjir gue nemu komen lu
I'm so impressed with his voiceee
The fact that these are his childhood heroes makes me so happy. I enjoy watching Jacob Collier's dreams come true. He's so well-deserving.
This is mind blowing for these guys to memorize all of this and perform it. It would be so easy to get lost in all of the intense voice leading amongst the thick canopy of this beautiful harmony forest.
People saying this is off, need to listen to more take 6 and less POP. This is perfection!
Exactly!! This is take 6 from the JUMP! Getaway Jordan!! Absolute fav!
2:29 The way Jacob sang "all" in the line "Cause that is all that I'm living for" is my favorite part.
In defense of this performance, I'll say that this arrangement was not intended for live performance. The way Jacob writes vocal parts is not how you would normally write and would pose a challenge even for experienced groups like Take 6. Not to mention that these are 7 different voices as opposed to being just Jacob so blending is going to be more difficult AND they're doing it live so the balance could be off due to volume differences. Is the tuning shaky? Yes, but this is a hella difficult song to do live.
Blending in these kinds of arrangements comes down to nailing the correct microtones, IE if two vocalists are even less than a quarter note off on some of the intervals it could ruin the whole shebang. It's difficult as balls, but given the skill of the performers Id say all they need is more time to really nail it down.
For the record, Take 6 has been singing line this before Joshua was born. I have all of the music starting from the 1980s. Some people just have a great ear for music.
JanetSmooth Heard Joshua?
@@TheEndorDragon I'm hoping she meant Jacob.
@@emilwal3336 man some of you guys with your over analytic bullshit listen I love the stuff that Jacob does . But he's way out of his depth here with take 6 .they really exposed how bad of a singer he is live. They were carrying him the whole way .let's hope it's a learning experience for him to work on his live vocals they were horrible, perfect pitch or not the singing from Jacob was awful really really bad
Jacob is really everywhere when it comes to real music. I’m glad to see him with Take 6. I have much more respect for Jacob now probably than I ever have.
Jacob be killin those riffs and runs
OMG!!!!!
NARUTO AND THE SIX KAGE!!
I seriously don't think anybody understands the magnitude of this history being made on that stage
Take6, passing on the baton to the new age that is Collier
Simom, wtf man hahahaha keep calm
LMAO
agree
Those only hearing Take 6 for the 1st time have been living under a rock of ignorance.
Lol wow
Young man with old school talent. Big props and best wishes Mr. Collier
Jacob deserved this. having Take6 sing your stuff and join in yourself....he worked to the bone to come this far.!
Truth Lives It’s still Jacob’s arrangement
That was amazing, not many folks on the planet can sing those harmonies!
The timing! The phrasing! Delicious on every level!
I love Take 7
Can’t lie; this is a bit like those Grammy Awards performances which put LEGENDS together onstage, and despite the undeniable talent from all involved, the mismatched styles make you wish what each of them does so brilliantly on their own. I wouldn’t have fallen in love with a cappella without Take6; their influence is immeasurable. But Collier is still growing into his craft and experimenting with sounds, and he has something to learn from Take6 as well. They understand crowd pleasing ENTERTAINMENT in a way very few a cappella ever have.
For the folks thinking they are singing out of tune, these are the top jazz musicians on earth, no they are not out of key.
Omg this is a match made in heaven. Take 6 can do all the sounds Jacob does with his instruments.
I lost touch with Take 6 over the years ... Crazy to see them all grown up ... So glad to see a ol' fave collab with a new fave.
Take 6 makes everything sound just right. Great to hear a tenor soloist. Loved it.
This is stuff that vocal jazz is made of wow!
Though the performance has some issues, it is still brilliant. It is a pleasure hearing Jacob sing with such a wonderful group that can actually comprehend and realize Jacob's harmonies. That is no small feat!
sfsphil Man they so talented I think their so musically intellectually insane they did it on purpose .
Jas Bataille I think you right !
Dude, Mark Kibble is thee best vocal arranger of this in the last 40 years. You need to listen to Take6's discography. You'll hear chords and arrangements WAYYYYYY more complicated than this. This arrangement is kinda simple for Take 6...
"Best" is all relative to what one likes. Arguing "better and best" when it comes to music is pretty silly, really.
Rick Jordon
No offence. I'm a HUGE Take 6 fan. But the kid has almost as much talent as they do put together. That's no slam against them. That's simply how good he is. Go watch some of his interviews. His knowledge of theory is staggering alone. He plays a number of instruments. His improvising is awesome, and his music is a level above almost anything else I've ever heard. Most people don't have the slightest idea how complex and different his music is. I really don't care who the bigger name is. He's the bigger talent.
I love Jacobs voice! I think they sounded great together.
Why am i just seeing this now? Pure gold ✨️
Jacob Collier and take 6 is a match made in freakin' heaven. Who's with me on this one?
This one makes my day more peaceful
Say what you want to, but these are the only guys on the planet who could've put this together on just 2 days notice like they did.
This takes me back to college at Tennessee State University in Nashville. I followed Take 6 everywhere they performed. Sat. Listened. Learned. Thanks for this. Continue to inspire.
Wow... some of the best musicians on the planet spanning the 20th and 21st centuries - together. FANTASTIC...I'd expect nothing less from each of these fellows!
AMAZING... The vocal chops of every one of these is stellar.
Watched this approximately 67 times.
Still gives me chills.
Take 6 still sounds amazing!!!!!
From what I can hear, every singer hits the notes they are intending to make for the vast majority of the performance. Remember Jacob’s harmonies are not conventional at all and there are almost always undercurrents of contemporary jazz in a lot of his songs meaning that really the artist is able to take the music wherever they wish based on the feeling they want to conjure in the listener. There are really only a couple of instances where chords are slightly off.
Yeah, they get off a bit around "here forever to see me through," find it again when the bass hits a low note on his own, and the rest of it is pretty spot on, just a couple more minor intonation issues in individual runs.
Yeah the first problem is it’s at least 12 parts being arranged for 7 lol
3:40 i didn't know that he reaches that note!!! So beautiful!!!
I love the vibe this performance gives off. Like they do it just because. Because that’s why they do it.
This arrangement is a masterpiece!
Why have I not seen this until DECEMBER 24 2019
Thank you so much for having Jacob at your show! Its so nice to know more about his work 👌 I grew up with Take6 music and this performance is more than epic to me !😍 God bless you all xx
Incredible! Guys, you are amazing. I'm deeply impressed! Mr. Collier, unearthly! Must be a nice planet where you're coming from ... 😂
OMG! Beautiful and great to hear these guys together !
That bass though at 1:05
I am so glad this happened!!!! The voicing that Mr. Collier uses & does TAKE6 been doing it for decades!!! glad they got to collab! AND IT'S DOPE!
I am in tears! How beautiful and rich! Jacob possesses a true gift from God!
I saw and heard 7 voices what were you seeing and hearing .Black musicians matter too
I love this so much I can't get enough
Wow never thought I would see a collab like this last time I heard take 6 my father was playing it years ago..and now Jacob is with them..epic lol
Wow, Lord, this is mind-blowing!
ICONIC.
I think these chord variations seem too complex for some people. Because this wasn't off or out of tune at all
Some folks just ain't hip enough. What can ya do?
TheMrFunktastic2 Orrr maybe you have less musical ear than even some people with no musical education, because this is far less precise than the album version.
Well I have an education in music, and quite the good ear if I say so myself. What do you back your claims with?... And if you had a remote idea of how things work you'd know that an album version is always going to be more precise than a live, one take performance when it comes to harmonies. That's a given... Even so, this performance is AMAZING and very well performed
TheMrFunktastic2 Truth
There are definitely some notes very slightly out of tune, considering he used a vocal effect to get his voice to the excessive low notes on the album, the album version was probably autotuned too. I am not by any means saying this performance isn't awesome, should I back my claims?? I'm a violinist, so yeah, i know about beinng out of tune, lol
I like to listen to this every now and then as it's really a tremendous performance. I don't understand why people are even mentioning imperfections as they're not robots. I very much doubt the naysayers could do better. Not even close.
Take 6. Harmonical heaven..... this youngin sounds beyond his age and effortless. This is a Stevie Wonder song. I know, because I remember when it first came on the radio. It used to make me cry......
This is like hearing all the jacobs live
1:17 Jacob has to smile aswell :D Amazing Bass Singer
Wonderful....saw his solo act in NYC IN Feb...just GREAT
I love all of your voices!!!
sounds really GREAT !!! made my DAY!!!!!!
Omg their bass voice is so amazing
So difficult, so beautiful song! Incredible!

This was inevitable. Fabulous!
Seriously. This is epic! Thanks for sharing!
Oh my that was just ♥️🎵
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope they put out an album version too. Amazing.
The was so good for me to hear 👂, so soothing to my soul , Love 💕 you all for this! 👏🏾👏🏾Bravo!
THAT WAS MIND BLOWING!!
Killin' it BABY!! 😁🎤🎧 Now that's how you do it !! 😃
No clashes. Awesome!
Stellar!
That bass vocal like cello is such cool!!
You are brilliant, guys!!! God bless you
I love how Alvin's right hand instinctively plucking as if he is on his Uproght Bass.... except he IS the upright bass on this. A damn fine one too!
Fabulous! Just Fabulous!
Sorri de orelha a orelha com essa apresentação. Que coisa linda!
1:27 when they land on that perfect 5th though omg
As I look at them together, all I can think is, "That makes 13 Grammy Awards on one stage...and for good reason!"
This was super duper cool! I wandered from the RUclips channels of Charles Cornell, to NPR Music: Tiny Desk Concert, to some random thumbnail labeled Collier's Grammy acceptance speeches (plural), and now this one of Collier actually performing with Take 6! I grew up listening to them when they first hit the scene (telling my age... LOL). So the harmonies that I heard in a video that Charles Cornell shared reminded me of the sound of Take 6. And now it all makes perfect sense. Thank y'all for sharing this awesome moment! Stay healthy and take care. (Smile)
This is insane. The control
Fantastic! ❤️
Wooooowzzerz 💥💥🔥🔥❤️
This is amazing...They did it...
Stella performance! Thankyou All!!
