The first gen grand cherokee is amazing! I daily a 1995 limited model with the 4.0. It does have the all time 4x4 system which is cool and does change the driving feel versus one with the part time 4x4. The problem though with that system is that the viscus cupling in the transfer case starts to bind when it goes bad, which mine has with over 261 thousand miles. It mostly happens more when it's hot out or on log drives so when they go bat it is a heat sensitivity issue. However the vehicle can still be driven with this problem, it just makes tight on road turns hard. I did notice that you said this model had the 5.2 v8. I'm not 100% sure but I think they switched to the 5.9 in 96. You also said that this one has rear drum brakes. I have never seen a grand cherokee with rear drum brakes. I also do believe that that purple is a rare color only offered for that year. If you can get it for $1,800 do it, that's a steal. A few years ago you could get one of those for around $1,000 all day but now with the economy and the fact that these are now old enough to be considered desirable the prices have shot way up! That thing in today's market is worth around $4,000 or maybe even $5,000

I’m currently out of a vehicle at the moment (stupidly totaled my graduation gift from high school), and a fellow down the road from me has a 1996 Jeep Cherokee with 188k miles on it.
I don’t know the specifics, don’t know how well it’s been serviced, but typically people around here have a decent reputation of servicing their vehicles pretty regularly. Only thing I’m wondering about, do you think the transmission might have any problems around that mileage? I need something to be able to kinda do it all, pull a trailer when I need it to and get me from A-B but out of a truck I feel like that’s asking bare minimum. Just wondering if the reliability is there is all.

These were fairly decent vehicles overall, but the transmissions were problematic. Although I had a 96 sebring convertible that went well over 200k on the original trans.
