I know these are older video's but I just wanted to say "thank you". Im disabled, so money is really tight and value for money is super important to me. Because im stuck in the house a lot im considering starting a youtube channel for DJ'ing and I've been wanting to upgrade my current setup. As much as I love pioneer...i can't afford to upgrade my current stuff. You're Denon DJ videos have really helped me see the difference and the the value Denon provides is almost too good to be true. I'm currently getting some money together but I think i'm definitely going to go with the Denon 1850 mixer and 2 SC6000's (and possible add the LC6000 later). Again, I can't thank you enough for your Denon demonstration vids.
This seems to be Denon's way of bridging the gap between using players + a Mixer, and using DJ controllers. A lot of these "New" features aren't really new at all (Changing EQ type, Deck Layering, etc...). Within Traktor for example you can change the filter type and the EQ and it has over 30 effects and it has the layering feature if you use something like their Kontrol S4. Denon seems to be mixing these two things together, and the main big difference between Denons new gear and a Traktor controller seems to be that you don't have to use them with a laptop. So while Denon did a great job with their new gear, they didn't necessarily invent the wheel again. they simply took features that were already thought of and they implemented them into new gear. So well done Denon but I think we still need to give credit where credit is due.
I used to love Traktor. Their refusal to compete with something that could even be CONSIDERED as a DENON replacement - screw them. Ill give em a shot when they (don't) add HID to x1800 and SCM5000 like they swear they will
@Laidbackluke Luke your music is helping me get through some very rough time. It's really amazing the healing powers music has. Please don't ever stop your art! Love from Chile! ☝👆💖
LL, love your VLOGS. I'm a retired U.S. Army Veteran got back into DJing a few years back. Love to see you're using DENIN DJ gear. I was a Natii all Demonstrator for a few years for DENON DJ. Would love to come help you out at one of your shows sometime just for the experience and pleasure to meet you as well. Either way sir, keep up the great work and thank you for the sneak peek into your world. Bret Gash
Can you do a tutorial on reading the crowd, how to keep the crowd going in different dance genres(jumping, hip movement, etc..) and themes for club vs. festival music.
Luke!!! I saw you last week at Time Nightclub! You Killed It! Play alot of throwback bangers and i lost my shit when you played Fantasizing! My second fav song off the album right behind Hooked Again :). ive seen you most likely well over 10 times and imma tell you right now, imma open up for you one day soon! mark my words Grandmaster!!
Love your vlogs! I watching them every friday :D Hope to see you play in Norway once time! I am a big fan of your DJ skills and your music. You are one of my idols to make music!
Hello Luke I just got a pair of SC6000 Primes and was looking to purchase the X1850 but every where its on back order over a month! So the X1800 is the next best choice!! I found one in a local guitar center used but In excellent condition. Thanks for the review!
Thnx Luke! I do wonder why you don't plug in your ear buds in the 3,5mm jack, but you still use the 6,35 mm Jack? Just a habit or do really notice a difference?
I think you should buy one when u need one. I've been mixing since january and I only mix for myself so I don't need a mixer with insane audio output and stuff. I have a DDJ-RR and that's more than enough for me atm. If you play for big crowds and you think that your mixer or controller doesn't have the features you need or the audio quality you need then upgrade
MKMusic i was in that situation to! just go for the rr because rb feels so cheap and small, with the rr you have everything you need i bought the sr 3 years ago when i just started to dj and i'm still using it today!
I'd recommend buying the cheap model first because you have no experience. I started with a DDJ SB2 so I can't compare RB and RR that good but these are the things why I upgraded: -I wanted to see the master volume level on the controller -more fx knobs -more pads -fell in love with the fx pads -play/pause/cue buttons like on a cdj But the thing is that the RB for example has pad fx already, play/pause/cue buttons and it looks like there are more pads aswell so seeing the master level and the fx knobs would have been the only reasons left...buuut I didnt know that the rekordbox effects were so basic so since I started using the RR I only use the pad fx and rarely use the fx knobs so fx knobs aren't really needed anymore so now the only main reason would be the master volume level but that's not really important that was just a small detail for me. So all in all I'd recommend the RB for beginners even though the RR has more buttons that control every single thing within rekordbox, a better sound quality, more outputs and feels/looks better (especially the jogwheel) that's not needed for a beginner who wants to start djing and I'm sure you can do the exact same things I'm doing on my RR with a RB Ok now I come back to the question In my opinion the quality is worth the price. but if it's worth saving for it is your choice I kinda listed the advantages that u would have but you should consider that saving for a few months (or I don't know how long) will mean that you can't start djing and when I bought my first controller I couldn't wait I just wanted to start so yea consider the waiting time and maybe the risk that you don't like djing and then just wasted the money
My first Controller was the DDJ-RB its a fun little mixer, especially usefull for beginners. What I did is to remap the IN/OUT to Autoloop, that is easly done in Rekordbox. Now I own a Denon MCX-8000 wich is awesome. I can realy recommend the DDJ-RB. The reason I bought the RB instead of the SB2 was, that I wanted 8 full Hot Cues instead of the cue/play button on the pads.
just bought one of these used for 550buks! its best mixer i used i think..i trust Laidback Luke since after he refranced the dj i feel taught me how to dj, Dave Clarke (i learned by watching his hands at his resedency, bugged out! in liverpool ) never mind his legit skills or reputation lol both massive Mr laidback :)
I love the breakdown of the mixer I'm currently talking to a local club about playing for them regularly and have already decided to use that money to #ChangeMyRider. Thank you always for sharing the info you do. I'm looking forward to the manager vlog.
wow,, how things have changed over the year's,,, back in da day,, all we had was a set of t/t's ,, either the 1200 mk2's or the 18's,, i would love to see how these thing's work,,, i need lessons,,, ha ha,,, great info bro,,,thanx 4 da walk thru.....
Hi Luke, Awesome video as usual. I just checked the mixer and players out at the DJ expo! This was after I played on the new CDJ 2000 NXS2 and even though it was my first time on the Denon's they where easier to play on than the CDJ's
Thanks that you mentioned the utility... Now i wanna buy a denon mixer as well... Ive had the player but i werent quite sure to buy the mixer as well because the filters sounded soft..n but noooow i will buy it!!!! :) thanks luke
An interesting topic would be the future of djing and EDM in general from your perspective. Do djs need to have a musical backround and bring more live instruments with them in order to distinguish ? Does a complete dj need to handle both vinyls and digital equipment and what do the audience demand in different locations and venues around the globe? Finally is it bless that making and playing music has been approachable to everyone or a curse as upcoming djs and producers are thousands now and we see tons of bad music / mixes everyday deluging the music - stream sites (along with great music of course). Thank you ! (Your vlog is amazing and helps musicians be more aware of the music industry. Keep it going. I feel that every week I learn something new - useful and that I prevent myself from many mistakes I would probably do otherwise.) Greetings from Greece
Hey Luke, I Love these Denon players but I've always wondered what your preferred players/controller would be for a beginner? These Denons are the dream but for a lot of people starting up they can't afford this sort of gear. Basically I think it would be cool if you could do a video on a great budget/beginner set up for new DJ's. Love the videos and I'm excited to see you again at creamfields this year!! see you next weekend buddy
I love the touch strip feature! I just subscribed recently to your channel. You ever show how you mix with 4 channels? I've been DJ'ing for 15 years and am still rocking on 2 channels.
Do you you have to choose between between the internal effects and send/return? If so, that sounds old school and is somewhat disappointing. ...and no alternative USB for Send/Return.
Hey I have a question its a stupid question but I am just curious Hmm so my question is that you always take your denon mixer with you even if its a club or big festival right so if they already have a pioneer cdj set up at that moment what you do Hmm remove all cables and connect it with your denon prime or just lets go with pioneer cdjs for while??
very cool! From someone that loves the EDM music what what have you, why do DJ's wear headphones I am scratching my head like are you guys hearing something before the crowd hears it, like a preview, or is it just to hear your music more clear?
you press the cue button on the channel of a mixer, and hear the track without it playing through the master channel if the main channel volume is down, then you can beat match and EQ your track before starting a mix and adjust the master gain if you don't normalize your tracks to -12 RMS, if you don't normalize your tracks, then getting the levels is nearly impossisble, unless you pay attention to the cue boost level the mixer will have on every mixer that you might use
Does the Denon have a master headphone cue like the pioneer. It just makes it easier when you only mix in your headphones. I do like the look of the Denon mixer
No it does not, but you can use the potentiometer on the bottom left of the Mixer to change, what you hear, you can go 100% Cue, 100% Master or anything in between. Its similar to a crossfader where you have the cues on the one side and the master on the other side
When did Denon start coming out with this awesome gear? Also, is there any way I can transfer my library from Rekordbox to Engine without losing my Cues/Memory & Playlists? Thanks in advance!
A pair of good head phones will protect your ears. It's the volume you send to your ears that will cause the damage, especially if it is cheap models that may distort the signal or give you too much mid range. That will make you crank up the volume to hear the lows and highs which is easier to use for mixing. Most important, if it doesn't feel right, don't do it. I can't use in ears because I easy get external otitus (infection that will need antibiotic treatment, make me deaf and is very painful), so I use head phones that sits over the ear and gives a good sound to mix with as a DJ. Still good hearing after 32 years in the booth.
Hi, i have never created music before, never DJ'd and don't really know what any of this stuff means but i have good rhythm and a good sense for music, should i pick this up and start practicing as soon as possible?
Love your Vlog! Great and diverse topics. Your podcast is awesome as well! You should really link to the podcast here above in the description :-) and maybe to your label? Keep up the good work. BR Nic
I'm really curious with the "tap" feature. I notice on live sets (Hardwell being the main one) he changes up his tapping depending on how tight he wants the effect. Native didn't necessarily invent the wheel again too, they should give credit to Lexicon, Yamaha, EMT, Dynacord for the effects.
@Laidbackluke Luke your music is helping me get through some very rough time. It's really amazing the healing powers music has. Please don't ever stop your art! Love from Chile! ☝👆💖
so glad we have reached a time in DJ history where club gear has meshed with controller functionality!
Can you do a scratching tutorial?
+1 even tough there are a lot on youtube I would still love to see one by luke
MiguelArtz yep...
I'd like that..

Janne Lahti I like to see that
Thanks for sharing Luke! It's nice to be able to get a close up look at the Denon and all of the great features that it has!
wow...that touch strip is a game changer.
I love the 3/4 echo, it sounds great 👍 especially when you pan it left to right with the master balance knob… lots of fun 😊
Thanks for introducing Denon prime series mixer! Excited and curious about next week's blog!
Hey Luke, if Pioneer comes out with a better set up, would you switch back?
Bryan Scarpino Would like to know that as well! ;)
Bryan Scarpino
I think Luke will decide which player & mixer that suit to him
Luke is sponsored by Denon to use their products, so he won't be going back anytime soon.
only if the price is right lol
He definitely has an endorsement contract with Denon

Thnx Luke! I do wonder why you don't plug in your ear buds in the 3,5mm jack, but you still use the 6,35 mm Jack? Just a habit or do really notice a difference?
Great video... I love the touch strip...!!!
Awesome love the dedicated dad shout out !!!!!
Amazing looks. sound quality and again custom coolness via utility. Can't wait to have my own and be apart of a new product culture!
Very informative. Makes me wanna pick up one set to start producing. Thanks.
dark452rob there's a big difference between producing and DJING
sheesh i laughed so hard, also wondering if you're trolling
dark452rob how the fuck do you think you produce music
Great walkthrough! Just seeing this now. Definitely interested in getting this X1800 mixer along with another SC5000M :)
I want to see you do a hardstyle track mixing on your Denon or create a track with the hardstyle genre :)
GO NEXT VLOGGGG I CAN'T WAITIN FOR...
What did you do with your old pioneer dj gear, Luke?
I love the vlog. Can you do a tutorial on mixing and mastering
Recently purchased the denon setup can’t get enough of it. Thank you laidback Luke
When should I buy an improved mixer, as I am an experienced DJ, been doing it for almost 2 years now.

Hey Luke just how many snap-backs do you own? xD
Nice vlogs!!! Very interesting
HEY LUKE! what do you think will be the 2018 main genre?
2012 Dubstep
2013 Big Room
2014 Future House
2015 Trap
2016 Bass House
2017 Future Bass
The Beat Armory bring back drum and basssss
trap and bass house were never the main genres. I would put deep house and tropical house to these spots
hardstyle
nope
The Beat Armory g house
There is 2 things I love about this mixer :
2 knobs for filter and sweep effects.
MIDI capabilities (MIDI out port).
man you were awesome in tomorrow world ATL hope to see you in Miami soon...do you ever DJ battle?
An interesting topic would be the future of djing and EDM in general from your perspective.

Greetings from Greece
vinyl is for elitest djs you don't have to have it unless youre a hip-hop dj and half of them use controllers
I loved the video ❤❤
Hey Luke, I Love these Denon players but I've always wondered what your preferred players/controller would be for a beginner? These Denons are the dream but for a lot of people starting up they can't afford this sort of gear. Basically I think it would be cool if you could do a video on a great budget/beginner set up for new DJ's. Love the videos and I'm excited to see you again at creamfields this year!! see you next weekend buddy
if you want to be a dj you have to use what the clubs have ,Or u simply wont get in
I love the touch strip feature! I just subscribed recently to your channel. You ever show how you mix with 4 channels? I've been DJ'ing for 15 years and am still rocking on 2 channels.
Hey Luke I think the Reverb sounds a bit crushy and is lacking some warmth. It would be amazing if Denon DJ works on the settings of the Reverb.
Can you make a Gemini CDMP 7000 Mixer Walkthrough?
Awsome vlog!
Hey Luke when are you coming to Finland again? it's been too long! :)
is it the camera or is the mixer flashing on where the lights on the buttons and screen??
great video luke!
Was this a product placement? It didn't get announced as one
Hey Luke, I was wondering if you could do a video on DJ record pools? Which are great and your views on some of the best?
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge ! Someday someday I don't know when or how but am going to be a bad ass Dj : )
Can you do the same walkthrough with the CD Players?
Oh, hey... Would've loved to see you live at Time club in Costa Mesa. When did you play there??
woo! this is making it difficult to decide on the upgrades I want. It's either between this or a Pioneer setup. Can't decide!
can you do a video on how you organize music
Waoo deseo vuelva a tomar el primer lugar denon deseo éxito súper 1A
Awesome !
mr. luke can you teach how to fade songs while mixing with gain and all
Could you make a tutorial on sorting and managing your music please
please do a demo submission vlog
Are you doing open demos vlogs on a specific day Or just random??
Do you you have to choose between between the internal effects and send/return? If so, that sounds old school and is somewhat disappointing. ...and no alternative USB for Send/Return.
Can you recommend a good beginner controller for an aspiring dj?
Hey I have a question its a stupid question but I am just curious Hmm so my question is that you always take your denon mixer with you even if its a club or big festival right so if they already have a pioneer cdj set up at that moment what you do Hmm remove all cables and connect it with your denon prime or just lets go with pioneer cdjs for while??

for_all_those ohh okay so mostly for the getting ready for your next song then? That's pretty awesome and it makes sense to have headphones
Does the Denon have a master headphone cue like the pioneer. It just makes it easier when you only mix in your headphones. I do like the look of the Denon mixer

Yes!! Record Buddy can move all your information from different softwares and Denon Prime will be in the next update
How you protect your ear 👂 while wearing headphones?? ☺☺
A pair of good head phones will protect your ears. dj-peterofficial thank you very much🙏🙏
Thanks man,
Hi, i have never created music before, never DJ'd and don't really know what any of this stuff means but i have good rhythm and a good sense for music, should i pick this up and start practicing as soon as possible?
Should I buy it, or wait for the next generation mixer and players?
What do
You think about the new rane mixer and new rane TWELVS?
Luke what are your thought on dj software like traktor?
Love your Vlog! Great and diverse topics. Your podcast is awesome as well! You should really link to the podcast here above in the description :-) and maybe to your label? Keep up the good work.
BR Nic
Hey! How is going your music selection process?
has anyone tried to put their logo on it? can't seem to find a way to do it.
Hi laidback lucke, a question:
Does Denon Dj is paying you to use his equipment like oliver heldens??
Superb
So this mixer it Allan Heath PX5? I’m getting the SC6000’s
3:06 what is that track?
Maciej Kaczor paradise Mark villa remix
Naz Adz thanks ;)
Can you use echo effect freely up to 1ms? I tried it in the store but couldnt get it working.
so much fun
I'm really curious with the "tap" feature. I notice on live sets (Hardwell being the main one) he changes up his tapping depending on how tight he wants the effect. Is this a matter of closer to the drop you just tap faster and faster or is there more technicalities to it? Good stuff Luke! I have a controller and have this layering effect myself, but some times I get lost on what track is playing and what's not, especially since I do anywhere to 4+ track mashups live and can have every fader up at once, no ability to make mashups through a DAW yet.
What are your thoughts/techniques on scratching? I don't think I've ever seen you scratching.
I got a chance to play tunes with these players at the DJExpo. they are really next level. Mixer sounds amazing. the players are a lot of Fun to play with.
Can you do Top 5 best cheap DJ headphone list please?
