- Out of all fly patterns in existence, the Woolly Bugger is probably the most fished of all time. Is it a leech? A baitfish? A buggy nymph? Yes, all the above. The Thin Mint is a Bugger variation that typically includes an olive, brown, and maroon color scheme. Extremely popular in western states, the Thin Mint is one of the most productive small streamers you can use to target trout.
The Thin Mint Jig Bugger combines the classic design of the Woolly Bugger with a more contemporary jig design, painted over with the attractive color palette of the Thin Mint. This fly is designed to get down quickly and ride hook point up avoiding all those pesky snags along the bottom.
In this video, Anglers All's resident fly tying expert and Umpqua Feather Merchants Signature Tyer Daryl Eakins takes us through the process of tying a Thin Mint Jig Bugger from start to finish!

Curious. Given traditional counter-shading; why would you not have the brown marabou on top and the olive on the bottom? Can you please explain?
Eh, this is a “dealers choice” here, lol. I do buy into and employ counter shading, however here movement and vibration are my primary focus. Thanks for watching! 🤝🏼👊🏼
Thanks for the tip on the glue at the end. I’ve been making it hard on myself by adding the glue then whip finishing which frequently catches material and sometimes dries fast enough that I can’t pull the thread thru to finish the knot. Duh!
I love watching your videos as much as I love chatting with you at the store. Very informative and entertaining! Keep these coming!!!!
‘ppreciate-cha! 🤝🏼👊🏼
