      the way that was done was sketchy as hell, ive been diving on and off for 13 years and the first thing i was taught was dive planning, i saw no dive planning at all, to include no Nitrox, or emergency air or re breather, no emergency planning, i highly doubt many or any of them are actually certified for cave diving or exploration. all it would have taken was for him to freak out and get knocked out and that would have been much much worse.

    Matt, I hate getting lawyers involved in stuff but in this rare case, I think you should talk to one about liability if one of your guests gets hurt. Even if they're cool, their next of kin may not be so cool while they're grieving. Also you might want to reach out to your local EMS and Fire/Rescue to see exactly what they're willing and able to do.

      Way back in the olden days (the 70’s) a bunch of us would go exploring caves in our home state of Missouri. There are literally 1000’s in Missouri. I’d crawl through holes like this that would open up into a massively huge cavern. Sometimes with lakes sometimes just a big mud pit. I really don’t recall being nervous or freaking out. Now I’m watching this and wondering how did I do that. 😂. .

    • @SaltNBattery
      @SaltNBattery 10 месяцев назад +53

      100% it's exceptionally dangerous, right up there with base jumping and hang gliding. They need to just rent an 8"-10" pump and pump all that water out. Then set up a large blower fan with a long/fat flexible exhaust hose on it for ventilation.
      That last part was seriously scary, he said he was inhaling water? It doesn't take much. Best case scenario, you have to drag him all the way out just to start resuscitating him. A family friend died cave diving in Costa Rica and by the time anyone realized anything was wrong he was gone. They never even recovered him.
      Obviously that's a much smaller cave but either way cave diving is exceptionally dangerous.

      Not like this, this was super dangerous and I think Matt was under the assumption that these kids knew what they were doing. They didn't. That could have been a really bad situation. He just needs to pump the water out and set up a big blower fan with a flexible exhaust pipe for ventilation. Trying to underwater cave dive in that thing is suicide. Not to mention a massive liability when he has guests, some little kid or drunk person is going to die down there and their family is going to sue the place out from under him.

      Because it is. Cave exploring is fun and almost anyone can do it. BUT once you try and dive in a cave, it becomes deadly. Especially if you are not trained and have proper gear. Never free dive a cave. One second it can be clear but one wrong move and the whole passage can silt out. once that occurs you are doomed. there is no way to tell which way you came from. you will panic, bump into walls and run out of air. could even be 3 feet from the exit. Happens all too often.

    • @SaltNBattery
      @SaltNBattery 10 месяцев назад +21

      He clearly thought these kids knew what they were doing and quickly realized they were just dudes who bought some stuff on Amazon and started making videos. None of this was safe and I hope if he ever does anything like this again, he finds people who actually know what they're doing and aren't a danger to themselves and others.

      I hope it was also a learning experience. Get yourself on a cave diving and certification course, some proper gear, and you'll hopefully have fewer close calls. Also think about how useful a snorkel might be in an unknown or badly charted sump or syphon when the water is up to the ceiling, and you have no way of knowing what the air quality will be if you manage to make it to the other side on a breath hold. There's a few caves around Texas pretty notorious for HS, and if you surface into a pocket of that, it really won't end well.

I remember wondering if I would be able to get out again, it was so narrow and tight. It felt like there was 60 feet of soil on top of me. I found out two things that day: a human being is able to push through openings that you’d think your cat wouldn’t get through and that I would never ever enter a cave like that again. It's been 15 years since I've been inside a cave. Before that, I was a hardcore EMT caver, certified in cave rescue, vertical rescue, and advanced single rope rescue. Watching this video sure brings back some fond memories of caving and repelling. Combining the two and rappelling inside of a cave was my absolute most favorite thing to do. It also makes me think about some of the techniques needed if Matt or one of the guys were to get injured and need rescue. Oh the good old days!

      It's too tight and too sharp for a rebreather or a normal SCUBA rig. They need to just rent a 10" pump and pump it all out. Set up a big blower fan with a long/fat flexible exhaust hose on it and ventilate the hell out of it.

He tripped over a rock on our walk home into a pile of rock...came out saying his shoulder was ok now.
