    I have one of these that my granddaughter drives. Right now, I have the steering column torn apart, waiting for the new ignition switch. I have already ruled out the main electrical relay, the starter relay, the engine management relay, and the engine management fuse. I hope like heck that the ignition switch is the reason why I have a no crank, no start. Pulleeeeze Lord, don't let it be the starter! It was painful enough watching you do it! Thanks for taking one for the team, and if it is the starter, I'll pay my mechanic to do it. He likes to bitch anyway, so this will give him a reason!

      I was wondering what the problem was, were you able to get it fixed?

    • @jimtownsend7899
      @jimtownsend7899 2 года назад

      @@JGGarcia-kh8uq Yes. Turns out it was the battery. It tested fine, but we replaced it and the problem was gone, not to return. But I started getting indications that the valve seat for #3 cylinder was getting ready to drop. I thought about changing the cylinder head, but I decided to sell the car. The new owner is going to take care of it.

      @@jimtownsend7899 I bought a used battery with 3 months warranty, the car still won't crank, but I think my problem is a loose ground cable, or the bad relay, hopefully it will not be the starter, thanks for your quick response.

      Yeah i did some but why does ford make that way for is so at home people can't do it at home and work on fords garbage.
      So we know now to never buy a 04 zx3 ford focus cause the starter bolts are hard to get to on top with that plastic manifold in the way that ford engine is shit how they made it

    Well just got mine done today. Wasn't as bad as I thought after watching your vid. My problems were accidentally cross threading the positive stud as a result of the plastic shroud making it go on crooked. So I used a stack of washers and got the nut on just enough threads making the lead tight. Next problem was lining up the damn holes just perfect during the mount. I found it was best to line up the top hole first. Oh, mine was the zetec so I didn't have to take a plate off or axle clamp (unless already removed??) So I was able to just drop the starter. Oh, accidentally removed two more bolts I didn't need to 😬😬.

    Thanks for making this video. Hopefully will save me hours of frustration. I hate this car. My wife bought it and I get stuck fixing it. The alternator has gone out twice, the water pump, the thermostat housing cracked, brake caliper seized and now the starter.

    make sure this job is done on a cold engine because you are working near the exhaust. I have invested in heat sleeves that also cover my hands and even though I always do this on a cold engine I still wear them from getting scratched up it is a very tight area to work in

    Swear to God the Ford design engineers broke out with evil laughter when they positioned the starter.

    Ughhh. My pinion on my starter is starting to not wanna engage when the engine is warm. I can ha parts car that's 3 years newer and I was planning on swapping over that starter to my daily, but seeing how much of a pain this is, I might get a new one instead. So I doyhave to do it again in a couple years. Lol

      There is no negative cable. The Starter grounds to the engine through the mounting plate and bolts.

    hi, you were in the middle of explaining that you can't get the top two bolts with a universal joint and then it switched to the bottom view of the starter. What tool did you use for the top bolt?

    • @hardhead962
      @hardhead962  8 лет назад +1

      I removed the bolts with the universal-joint socket that I used to point out the position of the bolts.
      Sorry about that. I should have explained that a little better. Good luck.

And get a plane ol vaccum hose or fuel hose and go on with my day… broke it off getting the starter bolts loose.. why did they make it a plastic hose instead of normal rubber 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️
