North Carolina officials say a teenager will face assault charges and likely expulsion after cell phone video allegedly captured him slapping a teacher across the face. The teacher declined medical attention and was back in the classroom the very next day. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber discusses the horrifying video, the consequences for the alleged offender, and accusations that the student has attacked a teacher before with trial attorney David Ring.

As a teacher who was injured by a student in that system, WSFCS does not want to suspend students. They have paid big bucks to train the teachers in restorative practices. They do not suspend kids because they say they need to stay in class. There have been trainings where the presenters say, they throw the chairs because they love you. They tell us if you form a bond with them, they will not act out. I am sure the teacher came back because they told her to. When I was injured, they told me to tell the class I was not upset with the kid and I would be back tomorrow. I hope this is a wake up call to the district.

If the public saw what is actually happening in classrooms, they would be shocked. Frequently, a student is violent and disrespectful, and nothing happens. They know that teachers can't do anything, and they take advantage of it. I am sure this wasn't the first time this student put his hands on this teacher. All because we wouldn’t let him leave the building to walk home. Had to call the police and get him because his parents refused. His parents later tried to sue us for how we handled the situation, because my co worker had to literally hold this child down. These parents are failing these kids. I became so emotional about that situation because I could tell that child was battling something we couldn’t fix or see. I never went back to teaching or babysitting kids, switched my entire major. I probably would’ve been a great teacher and I was truly passionate about trying to help the adolescents, but they are too out of control. Teachers need more help, something needs to change NOW. Those are the ones that dominate & disrupt any classroom and make it impossible to teach the other students. You are seeing more and more of these instances, where students become aggressive. You can't even defend yourself or you are the one up on charges. Luckily there was video.

He should be tried as an adult he is 17 and clearly thinks he grown! Many parents have children before they are ready so its unfortunate this behavior is becoming more normal. Its normal because these kids think they are grown. We live in a fail society and things are just getting worse.

I got so much respect for that teacher keeping patience and having the passion
to keep showing up for the students who really want to learn.

Absolutely uncalled for. It breaks my heart to see teachers treated this way. So many of my teachers have been nothing but inspirational. They are underpaid and constantly devalued, harassed, and abused. It’s shameful

I don't get it, if they've recorded it why isn't he arrested? What happened to restorative justice? He should be expelled, locked up, and serve the community.

1:29 - The craziest point in the video is the girl sat oblivious to what's happening in the class because she's too busy looking down at her phone, whilst she's got earphones in and her laptop open 😂.

Teachers deal with this everyday. Parents have no care for people dealing with their kids. Schools are graded daycare. They're not doing much at school. Students spend most of the time, in on- level classes, on RUclips, computer games, & sleeping.
