Ric Ocasek is the only man worthy of performing the songs Ben Orr led the vocals on, especially in this particular instance. I'm watching my era close. The Cars are gone, and it's very sad, since they hold a large presence on the soundtrack of my life. Their legacy is secure though, and that's more than they ever dreamed, God bless 'em. Ric Ocasek, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, David Robinson, and the incomparable Benjamin Orr combined to form one of the most original sounds ever, and that's not too shabby at all. I love these guys.
Props to Scott Shriner who filled in nicely on bass and quietly bowed out at the end. Ben Orr was a talented musician and an integral and driving influence on The Cars success. It couldn't have been an easy thing for Scott to fill those shoes, albeit briefly.
Photographer jonathan: Yeah...He would pass away just what....a year later? Pretty sure...but yeah..at least he and the remaining band were finally rewarded. RIP: Ric Ocasek and Ben Orr
Like 20 years ago they been around officially since 76 they were robbed because they didn't Bow enough to Bal. All these parties they get so ritual same Sea of Faces always pushing always pull in always in the races , I.smoke a fat one I drink a cold one , I'm getting wasted Yeah I'm an arrogant Misfit kid still remembering what I did I'm so so so so sorry and I'm willing to..... Chat ! Some times nebulous always coiled to strike I'm just a frantic teenage romantic always in the races
Out of all their videos that I’ve been jammin out on this entire week since the passing of Ric, this one hits me the hardest knowing it was their last performance together and the fact that they chose Moving In Stereo fronted by the late great Benjamin Orr♥️♥️ and then Just What I Needed also fronted by Benjamin Orr♥️♥️ RIP Benjamin & Ric ♥️♥️ The soundtrack to my teen years, the BEST times of my life♥️♥️The 🚘♥️ ♥️
Very well said. RIP Benjamin and Rick these guys are the sound track too so many young people who were so touched by your music 🎵. Prayers for the family 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽. Prayers for their journey 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
The cars, Judas Priest, motley crue, ac/dc and molly hatchet made up 99% of my 80s teen life. Amazing music amazing decade. I miss it more then words allow..
So happy that they finally got the ultimate recognition they deserved! Amazing that the remaining members of the band are still with us and able to perform! RIP Ben ❤️
I was a sound man in the 1980s and worked with some really good bands. Though I wasn't really a fan of The Cars back then, I noticed when a band covered a Cars tune it always sounded amazing, and the crowd always loved it. Really a unique band, glad they were inducted. r.i.p. Ben, talented rock musician.
Pretty classy that they performed 2 of Benjamin's leads for their Rock and Roll HOF induction. Never realized that. I guess Ric and Benjamin can bury whatever hatchet there was between them now. RIP, Benjamin and Ric.
Can't hear this song without a wonderful mental picture of Phoebe.....AND the summer of 1978. We got to listen to this album AND Van Halen's debut - ALLLL DAY EVERY DAAAY.
The perfect blend of rock 'n roll, pop, punk and new wave. They were able to draw fans from each genre. Ric mentioned Buddy Holly in his speech....I think Buddy would've loved "My Best Friend's Girl",
Was this their last live performance! Thank God, they got together one last time!! And we have this live performance left. Who knew he was going to pass away soon afterwards! I sure didn’t. I thought he was in his sixties not 75. So I was shocked by his passing. I did not see it coming! I was Blindsided. But get this, last Sunday I was watching football and listening to three Cars CDs 💿 which I hadn’t listened to in months. And then I got the bad news Sunday night. I was genuinely freaked out by this! Do you believe it? It’s the truth. Did someone or something send me a Cosmic message there? Very strange! I’ve been a Loyal fan since 1978! I used to listen to the Cars and the Police constantly. So this really hurts now and I’m in pain. I know it was natural causes but it’s hard to accept that someone you grew up listening to is gone. I always thought he was one of a kind and an amazing talent! Rip Ric and Ben
10 people voted thumbs down. Oh well, even Jesus had people that didn't like Him. Long over due but I'm glad that the Cars finally received this long deserved honor.
I think its cool that ric sang the songs that ben fronted originally..but in a way they are all rics songs..he wrote them, so im sure they are all sentimental for him.
Very interesting Ric chose to sing two songs that Ben sang..... Ric had many songs in the catalog that he sang lead on, just an interesting observation. Maybe it was a bit of a tribute to Ben?
Yes noticed Ric picked the songs that he sang lead on. Ben’s voice and his presence is deeply missed . I just hear the album in my head and then it’s ok!
Absolutely some of rockin rolls best songs ever written .... Ric though you need to let a powerhouse voice sing "just what I needed" not enough grit behind your voice....great to see you all in the well deserved rockin roll hall of fame...Ben would be so happy.
As much as I enjoyed their performance, his vocal was not on par. It becomes obvious why Ben sung those songs. His voice sounded good a few years back on Move like this though. I once heard Ric admit Ben was the better vocalist. I tend to agree, but I love how on a lot of stuff they shared duties on vox. Not the Night would be a good example...and my favorite Cars song.
Benjamin was a better singer, but Ric wrote most of the songs for the Cars...ie. pretty much every Cars hit came from Ric, even the Benjamin leads. Ric was the Cars' primary songwriter...*LOL*...so, I guess it evened out.
7 losers who don't know or have class gave a thumbs down. The only thing wrong here is that Benjamin 11 Letters was not on this earth to participate in this honor.
Ben’s Son was in the audience. Must have been bittersweet for him, proud of the induction (finally!) and yet someone else on stage playing bass. Yes, in honor of his father, but still.
R&R HOF should be a FAN vote. Period. Deserving bands will get in swiftly. Plus no more non-genre acts getting in. They got lucky getting Ric in before his passing.
Uh...The tribute to Benjamin was that they sang 2 Benjamin leads. Ric could have said "Nah! We're doing "You Might Think" and another of MY leads". Also, Ric, Ellliot, and Greg ALL mentioned Benjamin in their speeches. I guess David was kind of awestruck in the moment...just grateful to be a part of the Cars. I'm sure he was thinking of Benjamin too.
The 80's were the best time of my life!!! Thanks to "The Car's"!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️...

Totally agree I saw em at the rat when u was still underage 1977
Watching this made me cry. Missing Ben on stage.
Fell in love with the Cars from their first album released in 1978. Every song is a gem. Unique sound for the era.Such a great, influential band.
Props to Scott Shriner who filled in nicely on bass and quietly bowed out at the end. Ben Orr was a talented musician and an integral and driving influence on The Cars success. It couldn't have been an easy thing for Scott to fill those shoes, albeit briefly.
Well said, a very respectable stand-in.
RIP Ric and Ben. Long Live THE CARS 🎸
They may be no longer with us but their music will always be.
Elliot looks like he hasn't missed a beat! Such an underrated guitarist.
He played the bleeding IDENTICAL solo from the record.
Amazing!
One of the best guitarists EVER.
He really is underrated, especially in the best of contests, dude just plays the most haunting riffs
if i hear that elliot easton underrated tag one more time i am gonna puke........ someone makes that same comment on ALL these vids :)
No way underrated. If not for Hendrix, Elliot would be the greatest southpaw in rock and roll.
Sad Rick & Ben are both gone! So unfortunately no reunion tour Ever! But I still have my Albums thank goodness!
Those people attending were so lucky to witness this performance, prior to Ric's passing.
Love the cars R.I.P Ric The cars. Will live on because of you and your band mates.
I guess Ric got his award just in time, Let The Good Times Roll
Photographer jonathan: Yeah...He would pass away just what....a year later? Pretty sure...but yeah..at least he and the remaining band were finally rewarded. RIP: Ric Ocasek and Ben Orr
Yes, very sad that both voices are now gone.
I feel like crying. This is so long in coming. Congratulations guys. Tingling listening, knowing Ben would be ecstatic.
The Cars should have been inducted years ago. It's all good though. Now they're where they deserve to be. Forever enshrined.
Agreed. Waaaaaaaay overdue.
Like 20 years ago they been around officially since 76 they were robbed because they didn't Bow enough to Bal. The car born to stay with us forever everyone of you play your own style that is the reason you are unique rest in peace Ric and Ben you are missed.

The cars ,one of the greats.let the good times roll baby.
Playing cars songs back to back after work , thankyou for great original music , Ric and Ben in rock and roll heaven , wont forget good times roll x
Not the same without bassist Benjamin Orr and his vocals, RIP since 2000...
Amazing! Usually some one else performs for them while they sit up top and get all teary eyed! These guys are really old and still singing. Awesome!
Errr...Not quite as old as the Rolling Stones. Almost, but not quite. ;) Ric to Mick and Keith anyway. ;)
Who came here after hearing of Rics passing? Rest In Peace.
Same here. Exactly why I came here.
Yep. Had to pay my respects.
ric was able to perform quite well. Then he died,
Thanks so much for sharing this. The keyboards sound fantastic in this rendition. Cars forever!
RIP Ben ❤️
I need All Mixed Up after my Moving in Stereo to feel complete...
Couldn't agree more, my friend.
Absolutely!
I was totally waiting for it also
@Daniel Drader Amen, brother! Can't play one without the other!
It was diffently an extension to Moving in Stereo.
I was a sound man in the 1980s and worked with some really good bands. Though I wasn't really a fan of The Cars back then, I noticed when a band covered a Cars tune it always sounded amazing, and the crowd always loved it. Really a unique band, glad
they were inducted. r.i.p. Ben, talented rock musician.
Those backing vocals on Just What I Needed...those guys always blended beautifully with Ben!
Love love love The Cars forever!!!!!!!
The Cars music will be around forever i hope
Pretty classy that they performed 2 of Benjamin's leads for their Rock and Roll HOF induction. Never realized that. I guess Ric and Benjamin can bury whatever hatchet there was between them now. RIP, Benjamin and Ric.
I'm really going to miss this.
Can't hear this song without a wonderful mental picture of Phoebe.....AND the summer of 1978. We got to listen to this album AND Van Halen's debut - ALLLL DAY EVERY DAAAY.
So many memories...LOVE the Cars!
Saw them open for Cheap Trick in 1978 at the Toledo Sports Arena. I knew from the first tune they were going be great!
Now that's a great bill! Lucky!
Wow! I was there too!
The greatest band. Period
The perfect blend of rock 'n roll, pop, punk and new wave. They were able to draw fans from each genre. Ric mentioned Buddy Holly in his speech....I think Buddy would've loved "My Best Friend's Girl",
bossfan49 they really are just a damn good band in every way
The best band ever, just loved watching Benjamin Orr singing, such a huge presence, bet he tugged on heaps of heartstrings rip ❤😢
Was this their last live performance! Thank God, they got together one last time!! And we have this live performance left. Who knew he was going to pass away soon afterwards!

This was in 2018. Ben Orr died years ago.

So heartbreaking not seeing Ben on stage
Miss Benjamin-Orr so much
They was one hell of a band i still rock to the cars

thanks for this/ HBO didn't include Moving in Stereo in their broadcast
Rest peacefully Ric. September 15, 2019...
They just don't sound the same without bens great vocals! Wish he could have been there to get his due.
I LOVE IT! The Cars bring back so many great great memories!
Thank you for sharing your experience at the RRHF . I enjoyed their performance and speeches. They all look great! David Robinson is a silver fox 🦊 ❤️
So happy they finally got in. Didn't know Ric was 74. Wow. Guess there won't be a reunion tour.
Simple. Perfect. Rock. N. Roll. RIP, Ric.
Benjamin’s vocals sorely missing.....😢 RIP Ric and Ben
10 people voted thumbs down. Oh well, even Jesus had people that didn't like Him. Long over due but I'm glad that the Cars finally received this long deserved honor.
You are always in our hearts,Ben❤
Essa música 🎶 só é bem cantada na voz de Benjamin orr , grande THE CARS , OBRIGADO ORR , OBRIGADO OCASEK , DESCANSEM EM PAZ .
Leyendas del rock ayer hoy y Siempre !!!!
I think its cool that ric sang the songs that ben fronted originally..but in a way they are all rics songs..he wrote them, so im sure they are all sentimental for him.
Love Elliot's signature move, there it is
Very interesting Ric chose to sing two songs that Ben sang..... Ric had many songs in the catalog that he sang lead on, just an interesting observation. Maybe it was a bit of a tribute to Ben?
This song started it all.
Yes noticed Ric picked the songs that he sang lead on. Ben’s voice and his presence is deeply missed . I just hear the album in my head and then it’s ok!
Ric said he wanted to sing the songs that people would want to hear. Just What I Needed is their signature song.
I love Ben Orr but this is not true. The Cars had 4 Top 10 hits and Ric sang 3 of them.
Ben's son was in the audience!
Thank You for sharing...love this band!
RIP Ric.... nice to see Scott Shriner filling in on bass.
Me duele ver ...porque es dificil no ver a Ben ..Y no oir su voz y su presencia. ..y ya sin Rick
..the Cars siempre en mi corazon ♥❤❤❤❤ Los amo !
"The Weirdtles" Love 'em, thanks for sharing.
Interesting that they played two songs that Ben sang lead.
Thank you for posting this. They were flawless!
Absolutely some of rockin rolls best songs ever written .... Ric though you need to let a powerhouse voice sing "just what I needed" not enough grit behind your voice....great to see you all in the well deserved rockin roll hall of fame...Ben would be so happy.
Would not have realized Ric was 74 in this video. Ric In Peace!
Congratulations - you deserve it!!!
Thanks for all the fun Ric. You will be missed.
MAGNIFICENT MAN!!!!
Me encanta las canciones de they Cars, lastima que ya falleció rico okasek
Thank you so much for sharing
OMG...it's Phoebe Cates!
It's just been announced...Ric Ocasick dead at age 75. RIP Ric.
We lost Ric and Eddie money this week.damn. and the year ain't over yet.
Thanks JIm. If you are on Facebook come over and join All Things Elliot Easton (The Cars, The Empty Hearts, The Tiki Gods, CCR) and post.
Estoy seguro que ya están juntos, Ben y Ric, mis grandes amigos...
That was Ben's song!
Finally elected these guys keyboards and guitars were a signature sound 80s and ops
Thank you!
Used to ditch hs and cruise in car to The Cars music. Age 57
So lucky you were there
Should not have replaced Ben. Holographic projection would have sufficed.
So bittersweet.
RIP Ben and Ric. Ric, she’s still a c u next Tuesday.
great song!

VERY AWESOME
Total badass
AWESOME !!!
The four songs I wish they performed: Heartbeat City, Dangerous Type, Just a Dream Away, Let's Go
Glad they.got
It
Bittersweet!!
Thank you for this!
I can't believe this whole thing went off without a tribute to Ben. I am sure Ric chose these songs for a reason.
Ric paid tribute to him during his speech
And the choice of songs was a tribute and the guys brought Ben's son as guest. They were never show boats so what they did was just quiet and subtle.
I lost another big influence iny life.r.i.p. Ric ocasic
Love The Cars, but Ric sounds like Bert from Sesame Street now.
No flashes of Phoebe Cates? R.I.P. Ric!
Not the same without Ben but happy for the band
Without Ben😢the sound is like empty😢
