'Elysian Fields' was composed by Shaye in 2018. The band included it on their 2022 CD entitled 'Magnolia Stroll'. A remarkable piece, played in G minor. 00:39 Theme A 16 bars, stated by Shaye 01:11 Theme B - very unusually NINE bars (nearly all of our music comes in multiples of four bars) 01:28 Theme A again - played by Craig 01:58 Theme B again - played by Barnabus (sure enough, NINE bars) 02:16 Theme C (very similar to Theme A, but with SEVENTEEN bars) 02:49 Theme A again, with Todd leading the first eight bars and Max the second eight 03:19 Theme B, but this time played without the ninth bar 03:34 Theme B, again just eight bars, and with a rallentando to end the piece When Shaye puts together some deceptively simple, haunting ostinatos, luxuriating in the key of G minor, the result is magical. It sounds as though she was inspired by lofty thoughts of the Elysian Fields of Greek Mythology - the Greeks' idea of heaven; or maybe she was thinking of the more mundane Elysian Fields Avenue, which can be found only 80 yards from the d.b.a. - or maybe both! What a curious piece this composition is! We usually think of our music coming in multiples of 4 bars (e.g. 8 bar sections, 16-bar themes, 12-bar blues, 32-bar complete choruses); but 'Elysian Fields' does not conform.
Shaye is certainly an original.....I love everything she has written. Her piano version of Deep Bayou Moan is so hauntingly beautiful..........An exquisite piece of music...She is exceptionally talented and all the while being so down to earth and unassuming..........................................

Super! Very happy to hear this recording again. Probably thanks to the release of the album "Magnolia Stroll", because until now "Elisian Fields" could rarely be heard at their performances. Maybe it's the fault of the lucky people who recorded TS's performances? Or perhaps the band actually performed this recording infrequently? I don't know that. All the more thanks for making this performance available.
Perutia is a wonderful city and the festival is fantastic! I wish I could have been there this year. The group sounds great, as usual.
