Can I take a moment say how much I appreciate channels like this? Everyone are average joe's (with many cars), and have varying interests. It's not 'just a donut' or 'just a drift' channel. There's something for auto enthusists everywhere. Mild to wild, DD to race, 1/4 mile to top MPH, straight line to apex lines. Keep it up. 👍
You know what other mirrors aren't painted? The ones you get to replace busted ones! I have an Evo-9 RS Silverado if the unpainted mirrors are a deciding factor

For that Phat Powerband: Twin Scroll Turbo. Shortest equal length manifold possible. 3.5in minimum downpipe. Cams don't have to be wild, but there are some nice bumpstick options around "stage 2" realm that would work nice for response. Also don't skimp on halfshafts, guarding the exhaust cam sensor from heat, and sequential transmissions are always drool worthy

Hey Ron, ive had my evo 9 for 10 years now. Love that you want to fix yours. They are special cars. As far as engines go, Evodynamics in dallas makes some good race motors. Rule is, the more torque you want, the higher displacement. 2.3l is very common. The 4g63 blocks are getting rare so we're starting to see 2.4 4g64 eclipse blocks with 63 heads. These can me strokes to 2.7 or destroyed to 2.1 for high rpm. Kevin at evodynamics I'm sure can answer all your questions. That's who texas Dave at RallyReady goes to/ built his pikes evo motor.
As far as engine build goes, I'm running the 2.4L 4G64 with and FP Green, forged internals, built head. Engine is overbuilt for my 470whp, but so far I am happy with where my powerband comes in at and how far it carries for time attack. Plus with the over-engineered engine, I can jump up to 600whp safely (if I ever feel the need for more power in time attack). Seeing another Evo resurrection makes me hard to wait for Streets of Willow next week. TRACK DAY!
Road race engineering is awsome and so is buschur racing. I used both of their products back in my dsm days. From what I've noticed more companies have moved over to more of the drag racing portion for 4g63 products. I dont see to many evos out at umc any more unfortunately.
The 2.2 stroker isn’t bad, it’s a middle ground between gaining torque and keeping longer rpm range. I would actually recommend you keeping the stock on the side for a different set up and going a 4G64 2.4 bottom end. It’ll give you monster torque and response especially on the 3076 you plan to use. Being that you’re only planning on keeping around 500whp it’s the best middle ground imo. Before anyone wants to argue with me, I’ve had a 2.3. Driven a 2.2,2.4 and currently went back to a 2.0
Honestly that frame rail isn't that bad, I've seen much worse get repaired when I was working in a body shop. Can't wait to see this thing ripping again.
Friend of mine had an Evo9 imported from Japan, eventually sold it. Decided to deliver it to the buyer, aquaplaned and went into a ditch on the way there. Buyer backed out. Me and my dad bought it, fixed up the worst damage, sold it (very much and openly still damaged). 1 hour from listing to sold.

Knowing Ron and Vin, I'd say get to saving up now if you're in the market for an Evo. Either this one or his other is gonna end up for sale by the end of this. Glad to see it being restored rather than parted out. We need more cars on the road/track and less stripped and junked

I know I'm late to the party but our evo has a 2.3L built by Curt Brown.(which I just looked and apparently are permanently closed) We have it paired with a precision 6466 twin scroll. 550hp with a nice fat torque band running on e98. With that setup we are also able to push to 850hp and 680tq.
As someone who purchased a parts car that was too nice to kill, and now dailies it while the other exact same car(but wagon) sits waiting for another transplant donor. I fucking love these rescue stories.
If you don't have an engine builder/tuner lined up yet, I'd recommend Roni at SpeedLab Inc. The man knows these motors inside and out, and is a genius with the laptop. Give him a quick search. Reliable 500hp is no problem to this guy. Also your names are very similar so BAM, instant friendship.
