So in true VW fashion, the starter died 2 days later. LOL
What about the fuel pump? Those have the lifespan of a saltine cracker, in my experience.
Whenever I see these, why is it always a VW, Audi, or Lambo (Audi VW group)? I think it must be the particular kind of plastic they use which is more decomposable by the mold
At least it wasn't a MK4 or your CCM and TCM would be toast.

I ran into Larry today at the car show in New Canaan, CT. Haven’t seen him in a while, but he gave me some Ammo stickers. Very nice guy 😊
Hercules cleaning the Augeas stables was a picnic compared to this interior. That was a jacketed hollow point round you found, a wadcutter is a flat-nosed lead slug that makes a somewhat round hole in paper targets. Yes, I know, pedantic.:)

By far the moldiest car ive ever seen. & You were thinking of people renting chevy Silverados and pulling out the 6.0L or 6.2L LS engine & usually putting back in a much cheaper 4.8L or 5.3L

What about the mold in the vents? Also smaller things like the mold behind the speakers at 14:45?
Obviously, they went beyond cosmetic with the cleaning but I would have expected the dash to be completely removed as well. Maybe the tablet bomb helped but was it enough?

Wasn't quite as moldy as this, but had to work on a moldy Mk. 7 Golf R about 6 months ago. Car was broken into, pretty much the entire interior was stolen. Everything that was removable except for seats was removed. Left passenger window was broken. The car stood outside over the winter without anything covering the the gap where a window should've been. So a few months in Swedish winter has its drawback. Not the funniest experience replacing the entire center console, infotainment, climate control etc.
You can have this mechanical nightmare for free
The starter went as soon as we got it home and parked it 😅
Love to see this. I bought a 2016 Miata with a nasty interior and gave it two sodium chloride treatments for the smell. After that and a VERY intense detail, the interior looks and smells great again. The sodium chloride stuff really works.

I had my Mk 3 golf vr6 in at the shop. We had a delay on parts and it sat in there over Christmas and when I went to pick it up, the seat was broken, they ripped the leather on the gear stick and it had mould inside. I think their shop was really humid and they left the door open because the battery failed right after. Trashed a pair of converse all stars that I left in the car as well.
Is so hard to get any good shops over in the uk.

Americans really take their mold seriously.
BTW, chrome-free leather will decompose when it gets wet for extended time, just like you have seen on those front seats. The sun through the windshield and the humid conditions created the perfect conditions for decomposition.

Those seats are probably trash. You can clean up, condition the leather, and make them look great, but you'll never get all the mold out of the seat foam.

Every time I do a headliner on something like that I just replace all the clips. It allows you to loosely install grab handles and just snap everything in place.
