I have arthritis in my hands and have ordered Jumbomax STR8 Ultralight Medium grips because my current midsized grips leave my hands aching after a round. I go into the experiment with the understanding that hitting right may be an issue as my current miss is a push/fade. Although my HC might go up at first, I'm hoping that I can adjust with practice and bring it back down and finally play with less pain.
I had very good results with the JMX ultralight Medium throughout my set. I tended to miss everything left due to a strong grip and a in to out club path. I hit it higher and miss way less left more consistently with these. +1.6 handicap currently with multiple rounds under par with the grips the last month or so I haven’t noticed any inability to work it left but it has allowed me to hit a few fades here and there when I really try to
Thanks for the comment man! I think my tendency to swing across the ball or leave my face slightly open just makes these grips unusable. The smaller side allows me to rotate my wrists on impact a little easier!
Interesting... I actually find it way easier to draw it because the fatter grip gives you more torque to close to face down. Skinny screwdriver vs a big handled one, you can turn them down more. I find this easier to control than a small grips where it's hard to know how much to turn it down. Everyone is different though
There was a snippet in a recent Bryson video with John Daly where he says the most over looked and underused thing in golf is a correct grip and that everybody should get fitted for grips, not just clubs. Personally I use a mix of Jumbomax Ultralite L and XL. For me it eliminated all hand and forearm pain I once had which is worth their price 10 fold. Problem with alot of things nowadays is what works for some doesnt work for all.
Nice review all other positive good to see the ones that gave not been so great. Not to say the oversized grips are wrong, but as everything with golf, they are individual. I can say lie angle of clubs can play a large amount into someone hook/draw as well as technical. I used to over draw the ball because my clubs were to upright. Going 2 degrees flat helped greatly. I am going to get a jumbomax grip med and try just for fun to see if i get along with them. Who knows with this game 🤷♂️😂. Cheers and happy you found the right equipment for you know it is all on the indian not the arrow 👊👍.
Well that sucks. Personally I switched to jumbo max mid size the beginning of this year and I’ve been killing it. I’m so much more consistent and I will NEVER go back to toothpick grips. When I pick up my buddies clubs it feels as foreign to me as breathing water.
I changed my standard grip to a jumbo grip and honestly I like jumbo grip and I always hit a draw is just you if can’t hit a draw don’t blame it on the grip
You can absolutely hit a high baby draw with Jumbo Max XL grips. Bryson DeChanbeau hits his driver with a high draw every time. He keeps spin low by drawing and gets some pretty good distance and accuracy.
I've tried the Ultralites in both standard and Str8 Tech, as well as the Tours, several times over the past 2 years in sizes ranging from small to XL. I've spent a lot of money on these things frankly. The quality of the grips is great, and the large profiles feel really good in the hands. My problem is, it never translates to the course, and my scores go consistently down. I've come to the conclusion that it is just a highly personal thing, and it must relate to how you apply pressure to, and grasp the grip throughout your swing. I tend to let go a little at the top and let the club get pretty loose in my hands, which I can translate to club head speed whipping through impact. I can't do that in the same way with the larger grips, my timing gets out of whack, I tend to cast the club a bit, and I hit everything about 10-20 yards shorter. It is what it is, I want to use them, but I've settled on Midsize CP2 Pros.
Excellent honest review, I recently changed to the same Zen Lite grips on all my clubs and I really like them although I don't play much golf at this time of year, I have the standard jumbo which is one size smaller than your x small but they feel comfortable in my hands, i used to play Tour Velvet midsize but the Zen Lite feel quite a bit firmer so how you feel them for firmness compared to your other grips on your irons and driver?
I did the fitting and it said I needed Large because of my hook. I don't always have a hook but that was my miss at the time. Put them on and it seemed to help. Ended up getting clubs tweaked and found out that they were way too upright so that was why I had the hook, miss left, that I had. Now with the clubs tweaked and the larges on...I now have, what I'll call, a swooping fade. Not a baby fade and not a slice. So I took the grip fitting again and now it says I need a Small. Gonna grab a few and try them over the winter. I do have the larges on my wedges and I really like them. I have the large on my driver and I may go to a medium just to get my hands a little more into them. I will say that I have an UltraLite-Medium on my 9-iron and I have be chipping very well with it so I may end up going up a size but I'm open to trying the small like the fitting suggested. Are they for everyone? No. I would highly recommend looking at the lies of your irons before you buy. Your miss left, or right, could because of your lie angle being too upright or too flat.
I put Jumbo Max Small on my entire set and am hitting all my clubs much better. I do have a permanent injury to my right hand and these grips are much easier on the hand.
I use JMX ultralight (XS) on my driver with (S) on my irons. My driver I love which I hit straight 70-80% of the time. Ironically I have the opposite problem that you have... My irons tend to draw and sometimes over draw when in reality I am trying to keep my shot straight. Maybe I should try those grips out if your shot shape is straight and that is what I'm seeking.
Thanks for the detail mate! Hopefully it helps others reading the comments. Weird how the grips vary depending on the golfer… I think I’ll stick to the ‘normal’ grips of regular or midsize 🤣
Your full swing is so much more natural with the mid-size grips. Don’t listen to these comments on RUclips. They might be trying to help, but it’s like getting medical advice from a bunch of strangers.
Why is it NOT one you tuber who has reviewed JMax grips have NOT once mentioned there are 5 Different size JMax grips. WHAT size grip did you use?? It would be good to know. BTW.... I have XL glove and love my set of JMax Ultra Lite XL size. If you wear a regular size glove .... a JMax Small or Extra Small might work.
Grips have and always will be a personal/subjective thing, use what works for you and avoid negativity towards what doesn't. Keep playing and look forward to future swings...
I think you need the tour series bro. What needs to be explained on the site is set make up. If you’re using shafts like a KBS tour or Ventus red or any high launch shaft use the ultralite or zenlite. X100, project X tip stiff shafts use the tour. But if you want to draw the ball. Tour series. If you want to fade it. Zen lite or ultralite. (But that’s general test from me and a group of people) And I know they say the site is accurate but always go a size down or two. And bend all your irons 2-4 degrees upright. Me and my boy have spent a lot of money on these grips testing them to find the keys to success. Hopefully this will help.
Lower flight with a slight fade? Those two things don't really go together. Generally when you hit a cut the ball flight is higher. Did you ever check the swing weight before and after you installed them.?
I switched from Lamkin Sonar mid size to jumbo max ultra light xl. I am a 20 handicap and wear a xl cadet glove. Good and bad. I am an odd grip because use a baseball grip. So the jumbo quiets my hands. I have a smaller dispersion than before. Now the BUT. I find I have lost distance. I was a high flight hitter and I seem to now hit it higher.
I Took some time with Trainer. Very promising Feedback and I was adviced to quickly get bigger grips. Have Winn Dri Tec in midsize and only have M/L hands. So I will try some oversize/jumbo grips but from the „normal“ Brands and not from JumboMax. They seem to be Even larger then normal Jumbo grips?
I have M/L hands too. Again I was given this advice and although the numbers looks good at first glance… the workability on the course is something I HATED. Obviously everyone is different and golf is unique depending on each person but that’s just my personal experience with the grips!
@@SamKingGolf Thank you for your feedback. I think I will start with one grip in Oversize and try it some time in the 7 or 8 Iron. To much money wasted, if the same happend to me.
smart approach. try increase the size in small increments. the size sam used from jumbomax would be 2 sizes up from a standard midsize. standard jumbo would sit in between the two. Winn do a jumbo size that keeps the weight closer to a regular grip(56g) weight is something to be mindfull off when sizing up. a standard midsize grip is 55g to 60g. but i have seen standard jumbo size grips from lamkin that are 80g, which would massively effect the balance of your club. having said that, some people really like a heavy grip. the grips sam uses (jmx zenlite "XS" would be 56g, although 2 sizes bigger than midsize). jumbomax and winn are able to manage the weight of their grips better by making them from foam and not rubber. another benifit of a foam grip when you size up is less torque. jumbo grips made from rubber are essentially just big hunks of rubber compared to their smaller counterparts, so they can feel "twisty" or "torquey" in the hands as they lack the rigidity of foam - this isnt a problem with standard size rubber grips as they are just a thin layer of rubber over the golf shaft - when you use a smaller grip the shaft itself provides the rigidity.i would try new grips on driver, your favorite iron and your favorite wedge. hope that helps.
@@TheSaNiOnE oh and watch out for the name "oversize". this means midsize in some brands. the next size up from midsize is "jumbo". jumbomax call this "standard jumbo".
Ive a feeling the problem isnt the grips *kind of* You mentioned you cant feel the club and getting inconsistent strikes. Highly likely its a swing weight issue. Especially full shots where you cant feel the weight of the head. Alot of people put jumbo grips but forgot to add lead tape to the head to offset the weight at the handle. If not, The weight off balances your club and makes it feel different.
@@SamKingGolf i find dinky shots (partial/chips/short punches)you tend to slow down, feel the head and let the club swing. Wedges are built heavier swing weight from factory anyways so a lighter swing weight point from those jumbo max’s probably didnt mess you up or even you benefited from a lighter feel wedge. I play d3.5 for woods, d3 for irons and d5-d7 on wedges. But i built it to feel the same when I swing it because of the length and force of swing. Full shots where you put more force tends to be weird since it probably didnt feel stable. Swing weight is overlooked but it’ll affect tremendously if it’s off.
@@jamesmc81 you’d be surprised. I had the same model of tour velvets re gripped and the swing weight changed. Maybe the wraps, maybe anything. Plus he didnt check so we’ll never know

think the moral of the story here is "quite hands" is actually BS. Wrist and hand action is essential to strike the ball and keep the club on plane. a larger grip is a personal preference and not part of a technical correction. find a sweet spot between: *1* being able to fully and freely move your wrists/hands, *2* a secure hold on the club and *3* comfort. go too far in one direction and you will loose one of the 3.
