I’ve been buying LV since the mid 1990’s and never thought they were “handmade”-i always figured they were hand stitched by machine just as you described.

This is exactly what I expected. I studied fashion after I left school, so I’m familiar with the machinery. All of my LV bags are obviously machine stitched & I always thought they were just assembled on a production line. The ability to produce quality in their case really comes down to quality of raw materials, quality of manufacturing machinery, training & procedure of factory employees, along with a lower piece requirement.

I bought a LV messenger bag (2004/2007 era) atyt: *pre *esluxscom* ars ago. I took it to the LV store in my town last week to have it repaired. A store clerk inspected my bag and immediately told me that the bag was of excellent quality. She pulled a current bag out of inventory and compared the tags and I saw ZERO differences.

Lovely collection! I bought my first LV when I was 25 and I only used that bag a few times, haha. Also, love your clutch! I have an Eva clutch in the DE print and love the little chain. But I don’t want to spend so much money on it now, I have been *hotdups* buying the bag I want, it is as good as LV and is one of my favorite things. Durability

I remember being lied to about the LV patterns on the monogram bags being hand painted. 🤥
These luxury brands try to make you think that some old cobbler guy like Geppetto is actually making these by hand in a tiny workshop bit by bit. 🙄
It's cool to see what actually goes on in the factory! 🙂

Very interesting. I knew they were made this way because I saw a video about the new (at the time) Texas factory a few years ago. I was initially surprised they were made on sewing machines but really, how else could they churn out so much product for so many stores and customers. Plus, what you said about a dress being handmade on a sewing machine at home makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing this with us!

This is no different than when my grandmother worked in a coat factory and was paid piecework. I saw a posting for work at one of the LV factories, and the hiring rate was $15 an hour, no experience needed. There are no “artisans” crafting these bags individually. I have no doubt that some people will think that the bags made in France are made differently. Thanks, Michelle! You always have something interesting to share.

aw wow! this was so interesting to see. I recall being given the "it takes an 'Artisan' many hours to make one of these bags" line in store. It puts an idea in our minds of an artisan sitting there all day diligently making the special bag we want to buy, and in our minds, this justifies the cost. It's just lies. Watching the Speedies being made was like watching any other factory making any other product.

I would never actually expect one person to make a bag from start to finish. That would actually be a quality control and time nightmare. I also would never expect them these days to cut patterns by hand or even sew everything by hand. And the stitches are clearly by machine, not hand for the most part. Maybe there is some spots on something occassionally that need to be finished by hand.
I don't think they need to lie to customers or employees about it though.
I think it's great that they are in what I think of as modules or pods working together on a bag after pieces have already been cut (I expect by laser) and they are putting the final pieces together and detailing them.
I would hope that each person is skilled on several things such as glazing, sewing, and whatever. And I would hope they rotate what they do, staying specialized in their area/pod. That's just me thinking though.
Hand made to me is what I saw there in your video. the other way to do it is someone only running a machine that spits out the finished product at various points and people transfering it from one machine to the next, loading a bunch in and the machine doing it all and spitting out the product to that point.
You see at Krispie Cream how a machine makes the donuts. They are not individually put in a kettle and strained back out by a person. That is machine made. And I have seen all sorts of products machine made on TV just watching how they make things.
Anyway, thank you for giving us a look inside LV in all your videos.

What I would like to know is what is happening with LV’s quality control. My last purchase was the new Nano Speedy with the detachable strap and one of the handles was so badly crooked. How could it pass their quality control? How could that person actually think that it was acceptable? I returned it as quickly as I could. The SA at the store agreed it was flawed and processed the return because they didn’t have another available. What irks me most was that they actually put the extremely flawed bag back into their inventory for someone else to purchase. 🤦‍♀️

So I'm a guy who has just recently fallen in love with the traditional monogram series. Hoping that acquiring a sizable set of travel luggage by way of your recommended sources and also fine replicas won't make me look too fem or metro. I'm a he-man but I'm very creative and also can appreciate finely crafted things.
LV must utilize some assembly line techniques in order to serve their bottom line. However, that can still be achieved and still maintain the utmost in quality of product. Good for you by cutting loose and becoming an internet entrepreneur. Hats off to you girl. Very proud of you dear! Jay

I figured that in this day and age and with the numbers of product that LV sells, there wouldn't be a lot of "hand made" to the process and that they'd take advantage of automation where they could. On reddit, I saw alot of people complaining about theirs smelling the same around that year. I googled it and it's says cheap leather or leather not treated correctly can smell like that but I was like it's LV.. they can't be using cheap leather. LV told me it might be because I stored it in the box for too long. But I ended up re-selling it for cheap because I couldn't deal with that smell, I tried everything to get it out. Thanks so much for sharing, this is super interesting! I don't understand the fuss over whether they use sewing machines or not--clothing and handbags require a lot of human labor no matter how they're made, and that's why so often their manufacture is off-shored to countries with low-wage labor. Definitely something completely handmade requires more time, but it still takes a lot of skill to use a sewing machine correctly, and machines can also enable certain stitches you can't accomplish by hand. Mostly I want Louis Vuitton to pay their workers well and treat them correctly--maybe if they did they wouldn't be having so many quality issues!

Does LV pay their factory workers well? I’d hate to work in a place where I’m searched coming and going, can’t have my own handbag with me, and doing the same monotonous physical work day after day.

From knowing others that have worked in the fashion industry and based on American economy I definitely did not think that Louis Vuitton was handmade. Maybe at a time frame in history they were handmade but in the global economy that we live in and also seeing the authentic bags the quality is fastly becoming a myth and a thing of the past. My expectation from business in these times are, "make the product as fast as you can". All the stories of quality and workmanship are just sales tactics and myths of the past. Stories to make people feel like they are getting something that is unique and specialized so that they buy-in to the extremely high price point LV charges for the goods and to help LV continually perpetuate their business.

Funny how many people want a handmade bag but doesn’t want to pay for the price. Also, it might look the same as other cheaper brands factory but in reality there’s a lot of things that factors that goes to each products. I do believe that some items are over priced and that’s when the brand reputation comes in to back it up.

I used to work at the San Dimas factory as an artisan the environment is so bad they treat you like an animal and expect you to work like a robot. They also let really bad quality items ship out to stores. Management expects you to sleep with them in order to get on good terms it’s a really negative space.

Whenever I saw that even some Hermes bags were created with sewing machines, that ruined the entire "luxury" and "handcrafted" aspect of all luxury brands. If it's not hand sewn, what are you really paying for? We could continue to lie to ourselves, saying that it doesn't matter if it was machine sewn or hand sewn...but it does. A true craftsman/artisan painstakingly stitching their soul into each piece by hand has more value than someone doing it with a machine.

Hmmmm....I have mixed feelings...Ive never expected that they are literally hand sewn, but I expected the factory more fiendly I think....I dont have Lv bags or bags from any other big brands....I dont think I will ever have after this video... I love bags and I have artisan bags from smaller brands from my country, and from other countries...the production is not the same and I know that the money I pay will go to the artisan...I am quite sad now....
