Seeing you guys playing with this in the muddy water brought back some serious memories :) I used to play with my 1993 Kenner Jurassic Park vehicles and dinosaurs in the mud after it rained here in Texas and pretend it was the jungle. SO many hours of fun
Great memories! The stuff toys are meant to do!
The BUGG probably drives around Cobra Island deploying ASP's while patrolling.
That's what I was thinking as well.
I actually enjoyed the little trivia that you guys put in for the Cobra Bugg, nicely done!
+lunacy05 Thanks bud, we really enjoy your stuff too. Can never be too many reviews for the greatest toys ever. YO JOE.
Great review!! Loved this vehicle but the Hammerhead would have been my choice (if I was serving Cobra heh heh). I had a basketball buddy who happened to be an avid GIJOE collector and when we would simulate battles, the Bugg's protect up front was exposed. We lived on an Air Force base, and one day his dad came down to settle an argument we had on the Bug's battle worthiness. He said being in the military requires covering a lot more things than just the battle itself. You need information and raw materials, plus development. In short, he said "What if Jaqacue Cousteau was a Cobra, this would be his vehicle." Our little minds were blown!!!
Thats actually very cool thanks for sharing that, thats shows how great this line was hey.
The windows were transparent aluminum!!!! BUGG was one of my favorite vehicles it offered endless play!!!! Never had the hammerhead as a child, but I found it as a grown up collecter! Thanks for sharing your memories!!!
In Venezuela (1992) Rubiplas manufacturer G.I.JOE and COBRA'S venicle under licensed of HASBRO.
These vehicle appear in G.I.JOE A Real American Hero NES.
Great! I got my BUGG in 1992 as well out here in South Africa. I was the perfect age to fall totally in love with this beauty.
oh man my favorite toy! so great to see it again! that was the best christmas gift i ever got!
+Atle Bjerke Paul and I both got it for Xmas. And yes, I'd say it was our best gift ever, too.
I hot it for Christmas as well, loved this thing
I know I'm commenting 7 years too late but these videos are great. I'm a very nostalgic person and owned toys like these. I had things like the Jurassic park compound, the Jeep and hummer and my favorite the JP explorer. These toys kept my imagination going for hour's in my own little world.
Not late at all! We still do reviews from time to time! And the BUGG is particularly nostalgic for the GI JOBURG boys. A top-rated vehicle we all played with as kids! An essential one we had to produce a video on in the early days of the channel. Thanks for commenting!
I've always thought this was an awesome vehicle, great review!
Another great reviews guys. Liking the teamwork.
Watching these videos brings back childhood memories playing with all your cool toys. I never had them myself :(
Alastair Stokell you should come onto the podcast some time old friend and we can reminisce.
So I think the BUGGS were 2nd tier defense/deep sea operational vehicle and the Hammerhead was the overall command vehicle for base defense/deep sea ops/covert recon.
I loved Decimator, and I was able to negotiate him being a MAJOR when it was my turn to be the bad guys, LOL!
I can dig that. Especially since Decimator was a one-off character... seems like you agree!
ah love these first vids! there great! love to see how you first stared and how far you have come sense
Glad you get something out of these old guys! I’m terrified of rewatching them! 😅
In Marvel's G. I. Joe #80, a Cobra Bugg made the fatal error of trying to take on a G. I. Joe Rolling Thunder!
Duke: "We're HIT! A BUGG surfaced behind us!"
Rumbler: "All he did was scratch paint! I'll fix his sorry case- but GOOD!"
'Good luck, Joes!' Lol! The USS Seaview from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea would decimate the Buggs. 😁
Such a cool issue. Loads of action and GREAT art. But boy does it look wrong having a single Tomahawk lift a Rolling Thunder!
GI Joburg Have to agree! Perhaps 2 Tomahawks would've been more realistic; I think Larry was trying to avoid the nonsense of the cartoons where the Joes had multiple vehicles, and that most of them can operate them.
Love your outdoor gi joe videos! It's a nice touch!
Gabriel IronLungz that's where you're meant to play with your Joes!
I bought the Cobra BUGG off of eBay earlier this year. I intend to buy another one as well.
They're so great! A lot of play value and one helluva interesting toy. Glad you liked it!
Mad cool points for putting it in the real water, f'n awesome!
ELKFILMZ seen what we did to the Hammerhead in the real ocean?
The sound effects! ooooo I just love it!
One of my favorite cobra vehicles. Keep them reviews coming.
That's the plan! We're just lazy SOB's and there's little to no chance we can match the output of our contemporaries like old HCC788! That cat is on fire! But we'll stay in the game. You bet. We need to legitimate our collections! Ha ha ha.
I love how you guys are not afraid to test the Bugg in a river or a lake. Most excellent review too. Keep up with the amazing work mate.
Stay tuned! There will be more BUGG action in the coming week!
@@gijoburg I just brought one myself so I’m looking forward to do a video as well especially on repairing the tab which supports the submarine
@@campbellruleV1kiwiGI my childhood one, featured in this review and the forthcoming video has a repaired clip. It was a lifetime ago when I did the fix, but I’m pretty sure it was just regular household superglue. Nothing more to it than that!
@@gijoburg oh wow that’s awesome bro
Excellent commentary and analysis! Bravo!
This channel is so cool. I'm really impressed.
I'd like to think that the missiles on the jet skis are more like mini Torpedoes or something along those lines.
I just finished a two week long binge listen to all the Joburg podcasts on iTunes. The special teams episode is my favorite so far, but the Sideshow vs 3 3/4 debate was very interesting since I was thinking about that topic when I found your show. (My answer to that question was to buy a Bugg last week) Anyways Thanks for the shows and the outstanding reviews.
You are very welcome. We love doing what we're doing, but we're through the roof if it finds its way to a dedicated audience that enjoys it too.
Took you long enough to cure that BUGG situation though...
...better late than never!
AWESOME Guy's keep it coming !
Thanks! We'll certainly try!
remember having that toy it was my favorite
Mine too buddy... mine too.
There’s a product called plexus used in the marine industry that may help clear up your windows. I use it on my vinyl jeep windows and it works wonders on the fine scratches
Thanks for the tip!
So much fun I found my Secto Viper in 1989 or so at a thrift shop in a bag with Firefly, a Strato Viper, and a few others for a mere US Dollar! No gun or helmet however.
RTD1 and no BUGG of course! Did you manage to obtain the vehicle? It's fun!
great reviews. I watched the hammer head, and the mcc. I liked that you took them all outside were they're supposed to go.
Exactly! You can't really get the feel for how awesome a toy is until you take it outside, even old toys like these. Thanks for watching. :)
Did you folks make it to the vehicle design discussion panel at JoeCon? I was amazed at this vehicle, which is the first product I can think of where they actually *started* small, and then kept being told by marketing/sales that they needed to fill higher price points, instead of making it cheaper! The BUGG was supposed to be a one-person submersible at first!
I got to that one late! So I missed that tidbit. Thanks for filling me in. I did get (and appreciated) Mr Kunitz' love of asymmetry. Which is precisely how we got a crazy toy like this one!
Here's the link to the video directly to the spot he refers to the BUGG design sketches. Hang around until he describes what the numbers on the BUGG (and its name) represent! ruclips.net/video/XzGTxPT5vTg/видео.htmlm5s
My brother used to have this! Ahhh, those were the days.
It might have been your bro's toy but I hope you got plenty of playtime with it!
I'm pretty sure I did
Was great to see it flip in the water
Glad you enjoyed it! That was far and away the most infuriating shot. Must have tried it about a dozen times. I just wanted it to sink straight down; all it wanted to do was flip!
Love your channel...
Awwwww, thank you!
i just picked one up today at my local comic book store!
actually huntig ebay now for this because of this review
Oh yeah! Hope you got it!
i just got it for 90 nz dollars from a collector selling up also got a meandog filecard pretty much says everything in your review about wildcard haha bugg is awesum!!!
David Tagilala I bought the Cobra BUGG off of eBay through winning a bid. If you are successful in getting this vehicle, you will not be disappointed.
Did you modpoge the stickers? I did with mine so I won’t worry about stickers falling off in water
Good call! Yeah the adhesive is really weak these days on a lot of stickers. But most of my vehicles are euro releases and for whatever reason the stickers are different. They’re not going to budge!
This is when they made toys right,
we don’t got anything good like this no more
I have a BUGG I’m mid-restore on and your review is very solid work, as usual.
I concur with your presentation, although I might add a couple thoughts:
I don’t think the tank portion of the BUGG functions as quite as much of a submarine vehicle in as much as just using the pontoons to essentially ‘fly’ through water. I’m not telling anyone how to play with their toys, just calling how my head works. I see it more as the BUGG trundles along on the bottom with the pontoon motors providing additional power for short distances. The BUGG drives around in the shallows, and the pod allows for surface recon and personnel delivery. Remember, this guy is meant for coastal work, so it makes sense that it carries relatively light submersibles as opposed to the more marine aspects of the Hammerhead.
Second, if deployed in the wild, as opposed to strictly on Cobra Island, it is a surprisingly effective insertion vehicle for riverine work. The BUGG drives up, right under the noses of all the security forces, and the pod and/or the jet skis can then motor right up to the banks and away you go. The BUGG can then roll up the bank if fire support is needed for any reason.
Also, I don’t see the pod as capable of flight. It just doesn’t say that for me. However, I do see the jet skis as more than straight jet skis. They seem like diver mobility vehicles to me. They move divers through water, and the unfolded jet ski mode is for surface use.
All that being said, that’s just how I personally picture the BUGG.
It also carries a surprising amount of dudes. Nine by my count. Two in the driver compartment, two in the pod, three in the rear section, and two on the pontoons. That’s why I feel like its direct match-up is the Warthog. Similar size, similar environment, similar play complement. I feel like you could get lots of battles out of a few figures, a pool, and these two guys.
You’re on your own on the tow hook, though :)
Excellent comment! I have a hard time imagining anything having enough weight and traction to drive on the bottom of the ocean, but let me not prescribe to you how to play with your BUGG! And as for the two man pod having flying characteristics, I blame my childhood imagination and the way this toy was presented in the catalogue we had. The thing was hovering over a body of water with rippling waves blown out from under it. Very evocative stuff!
@@gijoburg remember, the BUGG would be for shallows, so its operating depths may preclude it from requiring a significant amount of weight to stay on the bottom. As for traction, again, shallows, meaning sandy and rocky terrain as opposed to giant layers of sediment. It also has the pontoon motors to shove it along in addition to the wheels.
As for a flying pod? It’s not out of the range of the magic wand of imagination. My personal conceit as far as Joes go is in the case of rules vs toys, toys always win. If the controls and drivetrain are intact, you can get it running again. ALL the guns are lasers, like the cartoon, unless it’s like a grenade launcher or something.
Also, the pod reminds me of Innerspace. I’m an 80s kid… and the Snake Armor is the Snap-On guy’s pod… :)
Awesome review 👍
Thanks Low Light!
awww memories, this was my last Gi oe toy of the 80's (think I actually have the box somewhere)
It's a goody hey? You considering tracking one down?
Great review, guys. With the colour scheme, this seemed too outlandish to me as a kid, but I appreciate the features now.
Thanks for the comment! Hopefully the colours don't irk too much now. It's never going to look "right" next to the deep blues and blacks and off-whites of the early Cobra stuff, but as a submersible it is so right. Freaky. Best displayed with a fresh veneer of swamp mud!
woooow I had this!!!!! Great flashback 😍
Good toy, ey? Good times...
Indeed!!! Thanks for sharing it!!!
You guys really should do more reviews. Other reviewers are good but 99.9% are strictly done inside and not outside in their orginal designed play habitations. Really enjoyed the Bug in action! Yo Joe...Burg!!
Totally our intention from the get go SIX YEARS AGO! Wow. Time flies. I dunno man, I get a little bored of telling peeps things they already know about toys they likely already have! But I’ll consider doing a review; any requests?
@@gijoburg I think us viewers for the most part already know about the vehicles and or figures anyways but when Joburg puts their Joe Color for action figures magic to work, oh man watch out! You have us viewers hook, line and sinker! Whether it's a review or an action episode, Joburg fans just want to see you guys in action doing what y'all do best...playing with GI Joe's! Any vehicle in Joburg action would be great, especially The General 😁😉
Heeeeeeheeeee! There’s the request! Man oh man, let me buy the house to put it in first okay?
@@gijoburg till then what about the Terra Dome? Or those cool new jets you got [Eagle Storm and Liquidator], Stellito review, in action against the Defiant? Now there's some Joburg action!
I get home in three weeks! The mind races as to what I could shoot! Who knows? Not even I do yet!
Belos action figures! Parabéns!
man u give a very nice review
Well thank you very much!
I really really want them
The original SHARC had small pieces of styrofoam to keep it afloat. Perhaps the designers put the idea aside just for the product release on schedule.
I only learned that about the SHARC very recently. I'm sorry they dropped it from later issues of the mold; but then again, why would I want a sub that can't sink? Ha ha!
Is the bug a troop carrier?
Not really, though it can hold two divers in the back section. All the other seats operate weapons or the mini sub so I wouldn’t say they’re dedicated spots for deployable troops.
Cobra always had cooler vehicles
Absolutely. BUGG might just be my fave. Loved playing with this in the water.
GI Joburg fuck yeah‼️
Which one is better cobra bug or hammerhead
Depends entirely on what mood I’m in! But something about the limitations of the BUGG appealed to me. Plus I loved all the gun stations.
27 is a crazy number- it is in Stephen Kings IT- he attacks every 27 years, it is the number of books in the Old Testament, lunar mansions in Hinduism, a-27 aircraft, international code to South Africa! # of bones in the human hand, and it is a perfect cube- This is just a few! Check out Wikipedia it gets crazier!
Our resident numerologist, Cujo, is gonna have a field day with this! I'll be sure to put him onto the trail of researching "27". Thanks for pointing this out!
The box is spanish! I have one too.
Euro Joes for the win!
i had one!!!
ya know the greatest thing about joe's was the fig prices were less than 3$ allowing us kids at the time to get a toy whenever went to the store. Also was an easy bribe for good behavior. Today every good fig is 9+ .
...or 15+. Yep, we had it good back then.
Jay J because of inflation and other components of this is the reason why figures are more expensive today or it's because they keep adding things with the figure that shouldn't be there *cough cough* Hasbro Star Wars the Force awakens figures *cough cough*
The argument is that kids (for whom this stuff is really aimed at) love action features and gimmickry. Now I spend my adult life reminiscing about my childhood for fun and for my channel and podcast, and I distinctly remember disregarding most gimmicks outright. Maybe I'm a bad example. But I doubt it.
Maybe the thinking excludes the final consumer altogether! Features and gimmick pack-ins are really aimed at the parent buying the toy as a gift, whose oversimplified question to their child or a store assistant is: "but what does this one do?"
Yep. I think that's it.
In the water,the best part
+TheItalodancers You gotta. That's where she belongs.
awesum broz keep it up justa matter of time peace frm nz
Sweet! Its possible that you are our first Kiwi fan. Welcome!
Lukka bru gud luk on the cricket and rugby did year
Imagine this thing being motorized
Whoo boy, so this is perhaps an unpopular opinion of mine, but I’m not a fan of motorized vehicles! I’ve always loved pushing the BUGG through the water myself!
GI Joburg I’m insinuating this thing being a nightmare if it was imagine a collector trying to restore it from the electric water damage
Totally. A new holy grail: “BUGG (still works)”!!!
just awsome lol
2:54 whats the game?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) GI Joe by Taxan for NES.
What a monster!
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) now we just need to come up with a good acronym for BUGG. Something spooky...
GI Joburg I havr no idea LMAO im not good with acronyms
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Big Ugly Green Gunbus.
GI Joburg Well, it fits well hheh
We are going to share this on our facebook page! facebook.com/YoJoeOutlet
Thanks so much for watching and sharing us on your Facebook page! Hope you'll check out the rest of our reviews and maybe listen to our podcast too!
As a weapon, the Bugg needs a little work.
As you brought up, the low-slung machineguns are too low. It works for the launchable pod if you assume it can fly too, but for the main body, it seems more of a liability.
The upper machineguns are fine, but I think they should be maybe a little bigger? They certainly seem bigger than .50 cal. The dual mount in the back definitely *needs* to be bigger, though. Or maybe just replace it with missile launchers. Imagine one of those things popping out of the water to swat down incoming aircraft.
Damien Hailey I wish the missiles had some elevation. They are surface to air I believe, but they needed to be able to point skywards! Regarding the size of the guns, I think they are adequate. Machine guns are always more fun to me than a main battle tank style of cannon! RATATATATATAT!
Damien Hailey what few comic appearances the BUGG had seemed to beef up the caliber of the guns, so there's some support for your approach. And an elevating missile rack in the back is a great idea!
GI Joburg Well, I was thinking more along the lines of like a Bradley's 30mm autocannon than say an MBT's 90+mm main gun.
Damien Hailey digging that idea!
COBRRRRRRAAAAAAAA
I really want some of the toys you have ......
We’re the best marketing team Hasbro (n)ever had!!! 😝
@@gijoburg but seriously from where can I get these toys ....I use to have the vamp ,mean dog ,fang, ram, silver mirage, artic fox ,thunder machine,r razor back , claw, cobra pod ...oh how I miss them if I had Know that they will be gone forever I would have kept them properly
Most of my post childhood toys were bought on eBay about a decade ago... but these days I’d say the way to go is find GI Joe sale and trade groups on Facebook, ask to join, and then put out your requests. Best way to deal directly with sellers I reckon.
I had so many GI Joe and cobra figures too.....I really miss them .....
@@gijoburg but am a little afraid ...I don't know if they are genuine sellers ...I tried to get some 25th anniversary figures but they don't deliver to my city
Lol nice
this looks like it was designed by Homer Simpson.
Totally! I read an article saying this thing has more glass than a Popemobile. It’s true!
Cobra had some of the better vehicles.
Daniel sanchez and certainly the more exciting colour schemes!
yah. not big on their colors. but it also cracked me up when some of the old cobra vehicles got recycled for the joe line.
Ahhaahahaha! Soon. All you're toys are belonging to me!
So I take it these guys have to sorta / kinda report to Crocmaster... That sounds nerve wracking.
Very possibly, and I suggest bringing old Croc master a snack just incase.
South Africa?! You guys should relocate, South Africa is not what it once was.
True. But it is still my home bro.
And further to that, what is it that South Africa once was?
@@gijoburg you're right, home is home. It's just safety issues I refer to.
I don't blame people for liking the Bug but it was vehicles like this that caused me to lose interest in G.I. Joe. There is nothing about this toy that is militaristic and is such a turn off.
Too true, it's definitely out there. Trust Cobra to take what essentially looks like an exploration sub with wheels and slapping weapons all over it!
Isn’t Africa dangerous
Oh heck yes! There was a lioness chilling under a tree in the one setup!
I joke. Lived here all my life bro and I've never felt in danger. Maybe I'm just an idiot!
GI Joburg do you often see lions around where you live
GI Joburg oh so Africa isn’t the very dangerous place school told me also I messaged you guys on Instagram I’m GreenYeti907
I love this channel ❤
I love this comment!
