I got this for christmas when it came out and it was life changing. So many great battles!!
This was one of my favorite Joe vehicles when I was a kid, not to mention the only large one I ever got. It was also the only one I had that had US flags on it. Being from Canada all the others had the good old red and white maple leaf, but my aunt actually drove over to Detroit to buy it for me the Christmas I got it. It quickly became the centerpiece of every adventure after that. Ahh, memories. :)
My mind races with the kind of adventures I could have had with this as a child! Epic! Good for you man. Your aunt rocks.
But I'm making up for lost time now!
I had a mostly complete command center when I was growing up. Most of my Joes came from swamp meets and garage sales. I use to play with this thing FOR HOURS! FOR HOURS! It was awesome to growing up during the 80s and 90s.
Absolutely dude. Toys this good and in abundance? I don't think we're likely to see that again. Star Wars can't even compete with the Joes of the 80's in terms of variety and proliferation. I'm sure if I had an MCC coming up, I too would have played with it FOR HOURS!!!
I got one at a garrage sale! Missing most of the little parts, but it was a lot of fun to play with and take it apart and add it to the gijoe base and tactical battle platform to create a gijoe city!!!
New mission in life........ Buy The Defiant playset, The Terror Drome and this Command Center. Also become an elite member of the JI Joburg team! Go Jo!!!! :D
It's a cool addition for sure. Great mobile display for figures.
Had this as a kid. I had this and the Ewok village. Me and my friends would take them outside in the flower beds and construct tunnels in the dirt and have full on GI Joe wars. the 80's was a kids wet dream.
Cool memory! Thanks for sharing.
I had 2 Ewok villages for some reason...they were both purchased second hand from garage sales, so I was missing most of the pieces like the rails, the elevator, the net and all the other pieces. It was just 3 trees and a platform, really. I remember when they released the Robin Hood playset for the 1989 Kevin Costner movie...it was the damn Ewok Village playset!
I wish i was a kid in the 80s sadly i was born in 2007
That's the Constructicon's backbone we were looking for. Lets just call them the MeanMachinebots, Destroyerticons, Dreadnaughtbots or something.
Love it, I remember getting this for Xmas, it was a big gift as we did not have a lot of money, my mother hid it until everyone opened all their gifts, then like the red rider bee bee gun, I heard "what is that behind the couch". Although, my father was a drunk, so it took a 9 year old hours to assemble alone.
I appreciate the review. My family was poor back in the 80s, so I never owned too many larger toys. Always cool to see them examined up close. I'm sure I'd played this something like this a ton if I owned it as a kid. Toys really went to the next level back then. I still admire them despite I won't be collecting them as one can only have so many addictions and things to collect.
And space! The big boys from GI Joe quickly eat up a room.
I had the Flagg and lil bro had the MCC. We were GIJoe’d out! Thank you Mom and Dad
I think most of us have mom and dad to blame for hooking us on these awesome toys. But yeah, Flagg AND MCC? You win!
I never gave the Mobile Command Center a single thought until watching this review now I think I must have one! Great job and love the podcast too.
Thanks! Truth be told, and I've said it before, the highest goal of any review is to get the audience to like or loathe the subject. Mission accomplished! Hit 'BUY'!

Endless hours of play as a kid
I wanted this SO MUCH! Just from watching the ads, I'd never even seen the show. I don't remember what any of the features where, it was just huge and I wanted it. Sensibly, my parent's didn't get it for me that Christmas, and in fact, my mum pointed out people in one shop who were returning it after Christmas because parts were missing. That made me feel better. I had enough toys anyway, I don't know what I was whining about! I got a second hand meandog at a school jumble sale a year or so later so that was cool.
Thanks for sharing Ben! I wonder why so many had parts missing?! That must have been really disappointing to the kids of the time. I know I would be.
@@gijoburg I recon they must have just got a bad batch. I once returned a Starcom toy that had a Shadow figure inside by mistake. The shop offered to exchange it but found that their whole stock of that particular vehicle had the wrong figure in it. Disappointed I opted for a refund.
Golden days of toy making the 80's was! A wonderful piece my friend.
Subscribed as this is the most in depth review i ever seen of this particular vehicle/base.
Glad you liked! Welcome to GI Joburg, I hope you enjoy your stay!

"oh"
"Oh ok"
"this is my life now."
Love it. Should have dubbed it in...
I think this is the best GI Joe toy review I have watched on RUclips. I especially like how you show the Command Center in its natural habitat.
I wanted one back then but of all the Joe and Cobra vehicles I did have this one always eluded me. I really enjoyed watching this.
Thank you!
Wow. Very high praise indeed.Thank you. We love this toy, especially when we can take it outside and let it do what it does best. I hope you can get one soon!
Good review. Especially pleased to see a GI Joe video with the word 'missile' pronounced properly....
Ooh! Pronunciation Police! Ha, thank you very much!
It was gem of my vehicle collection.
Man, this vehicle/playset was the shit back then! I remember wanting this vehicle back in the day!
We only found out about this vehicle after the advent of the yojoe.com! Imagine our excitement...
Your commentary is both insightful and hilarious at the same time....I loved this video. Going to check some other out.
Gotta love the sound effects! I always wanted one of these, but I had no idea it had all these features! Spare AWE Striker engine! Escape ramp! Refueling pumps!
I noticed the comm center chair is from a FANG.
fantastic review. One thing to note about the MCC..Im pretty sure it was going to have another feature dropped during production, The front was going to be a ramp that dropped down like a landing craft. When I did this custom I found places where a hinge, and stops were molded in, and only very slight mod to make the ramp swing down. After clearing an aisle through level one, and the drive section, troops can clear out and leave via the ramp. this makes so much sense with weapon racks right for the troops to grab gear before they run out. www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-customs-finished-projects/17902-custom-mobile-command-center.html
That was fun. Totally played with it in my mind....
Outstanding. I think that's perhaps the highest goal of any toy review! Thanks for commenting.
Another cool review of an awesome GI Joe vehicle/base/playset! Ok, so this thing is reminiscent of the Jawas’ Sand Crawler and contains a rather inhumane jail sell, but you can’t beat that 3-level action, spare Awe Striker motor and lift this beast has!
Such a gem! People default to the 83 HQ, but this thing is too cool. So crammed with goodies.
Gawd, I just sold my ORIGINAL last year, albeit it was missing quite a few parts. Nice video. Funny script and some really nice photos. 😎
Do you want it back? 😜 Thanks for the favourable review!
Excellent review. I found one of these at a church flea market for $5 about 10 years ago. In great shap, IN BOX. Missing a few pieces. Haven't checked it out much since I bought it.
Excellent score! I hope you have fun completing it. Very satisfying activity that!
Very comprehensive. Thanks.
Thanks for checking us out and taking the time to comment RB! Always appreciated. And keep inspiring us with your channel!
Agreed dude. :)
Real Nice! So far, you're the first GI Joe toy reviewer to have reviewed the MCC as far I've search for one XD ! Great review!
You're welcome! We knew we were cornering the market with this one. For a little while, at least. An MCC review has been long overdue.
watching the MCC review again. I learned something new from your review. I realized that the 2003 version has a bronzed/mustard like yellowish gold color crane variation compared to the 1987 MCC lighter yellow color crane. Also, some of its grey parts are ether lighter than the 1987 MCC like the repair bay computer for instance. Also, darker grey like the missile bay's railing. Sweet. Now, your review gave me the best MCC comparison too. Extra props for your review Rob, Paul Stephen! I love it !
The bottom side of the bunk / sick bed is the cover for the water moccasin. lol never noticed that before.
Great spot! I thought it looked familiar.
Never had the original but I got the Spytroops version.
In retrospect, I should have bought a few of them to support the brand and to support ToysRUs for bringing this thing back to the market. Sad we'll probably never see a re-release of a Joe toy anywhere near this size ever again. I know it gave a lot of people hope for a re-release of the Terror Drome.
The early to mid 2000s was a great time to be a Joe collector even if the Spytroops stuff was really lackluster. We didn't know how good we had it!
Totally agree. It was a pretty magnificent time. But I'm sure by now in the cold light of day, pretty much any era when you could (a) find an operating Toys R Us that (b) sold GI Joe is going to be considered a heyday. What will the future hold?!
3:13 when the crane just knocks the dude back and keeps rotating without missing a beat!! And the figure keeps standing because of the peg. "Hey, umm excuse me, you grazed me, um, oh well." You don't pause at all, just keep rotating...so so good. Great demo of the cramped non-OSHA compliant work area. Fantastic review. Inspired me to get my own. And just bought the digital comic so I can see this beast in action.
I just got my first mobile command center, this afternoon! A few minutes ago, I finished scrubbing decades of grime from sitting in storage. It is amazing clean, and complete! Unfortunately, one if the clips on the service bay door is broken. I would love suggestions from anyone whom has a solution. I could try a toy polloi lego repair, I suppose. The broken nub is missing. Overall, it is in amazing shape, and the damage is chalked up to battle damage. Thanks to this review, I was able to figure out how to open the service bay. The neck has to pull out, which is a terrible design. The plastic is very brittle, but I will be armor all-ing it, tomorrow once it has had time to dry. This review made me pick this up over the Hurricane. That will be my next purchase based on that joeburg review. Thanks team…..burg.
Joe fan from India here and your videos took me down the memory lane and brought back cherished memories from my childhood! I ordered couple of GI joe toys and planning to do a toy hunt in my attic soon. You guys are awesome. Keep up the good work! Please do a review of 'Rise of Cobra Pit headquarters' as am planning to buy it online. Thank you so much for your videos.
Thanks so much! It would be my pleasure to review The Pit if I ever get one. I did discuss it on our weekly podcast after I was playing with it. I shall find that discussion and post it here.
ruclips.net/video/yU8pqhCnCnc/видео.html from 11:35
@@gijoburg Thank you so much. Appreciate it! I listened to your discussion and it was very interesting. I also learnt about the 2005 ROCC DTC vehicle and its currently available in ebay for sale. If you could, please do a review of it. Thank you :)
YO JOE! My childhood fav toys. Got me right there in the feels. 💘
Yes! My bday gift as a kid.
best damn playset from my childhood. had a blast with that one
A playset and a convincing vehicle. This thing is fantastic. Glad you had one growing up!
Due to this base's shape and huge dish, I think it'd be a great ATC/con tower/mission control for the shuttle complex.
Totally. Or any aircraft making use of the PIT III I reckon. Perfect. And it’s mobile for its own protection. But what a mission it would be covering its tracks!
Geez guys, this is the greatest toy review video I've ever seen!
Amazing! Thank you Kevin! We're glad you like our style bud! We enjoy cranking these out every now and then. So stick around, we'll be back. And if you need a regular Joe fix on random topics, check the Podcast!
Utterly amazing toy! now I'm getting my own. Tnx for the review. ✌👍👏👏👏
Glad we could be of service. It is a worthy toy. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we do ours!
I was an original owner of one which I took out of storage recently. Inspected it and it was in perfect condition. Box is long gone though. Ended up selling it on ebay.
Wow wow! You take excellent care of your toys man. I always wondered where minty specimens on the aftermarket come from!
GI Joburg Ha, my earlier Joe's didn't fair too well. This piece was actually near the end of my action figure days and fully transitioned to 8bit video games. It was hardly played with and stored in a mild climate and dark closest.
Oh the nostalgia! I got this for xmas - 89. I was so happy! But the thing was impossible to play with. so many parts and so heavy. Every time i played with it it was an neverending assembly.
Dang! We can only imagine what it would have been like to try and play with this as a kid. It is pretty unwieldy. But as a big kid (or adult...ish person) it's great fun. The MCC's heft is no match for my biceps.
This is a wonderful review of a wonderful toy. I could not ask for anything more.
Thank you for the kind words! Comments like this mean a lot to us!
Loved the MCC as a kid. It was the only base playset we had as a kids so it was the main staging ground for all of our missions and a frequent target for Cobra assaults and infiltrations. A lot of the part went missing on ours early though (the lift and slide being the primary losses.)
A very nice vehicle/playset indeed! Thanks for sharing! Would love to add one to my vintage collection.
If you've got the space, you won't regret it! Bases are so useful. And if they move too? Doubly so. Yo Joe! And thanks for commenting!
Awesome review! Miss playing with my GI Joes!
SO COOL, great review video.
These toys where so amazing, still are to this day.
In the light of what mainstream kids toys look like these days; I'd say Joe keeps looking better and better... thanks for commenting!
Your very welcome, and I agree.
GI-Joe was and still is alot better, so are the Transformers, will be honest the 3party versions.
But none the less, good stuff, so are the new Joe versions.
Great videos, I enjoy them.
I got the Flagg for Christmas 1987 and my friend got the Mobile Command Center. I thought he was going to be immediately jealous, but when he brought the MCC over I quickly realized the shortcomings of the Flagg. I could only play with it in the room I built it in. It couldn't easily be moved, and there wasn't space in my bedroom for it. The MCC was, indeed, mobile and was exponentially more practical than the Flagg. Not to mention the fact that the Flagg was an ocean vessel, so you couldn't have land battles with it. Also, I never had the Sky Striker, which the tow hook was designed to fit...I had to tape it to the Conquest X-30. I will forever kick myself, as I sold it at a garage sale a few years later for $20. That's right...20 goddamn dollars.
Hectic. I think the silver lining to be pulled from all this is that unlike so many Joe collectors today; you don’t covet the USS Flagg. You know the difficulties of owning one. For me, it’s always gonna be a blessing and a curse. Setting that thing up will always be a big ask from the fellow humans I live with. And once it’s up... keeping small children away from it is pretty stressful! So, Flagg? Who needs it?! Get an MCC instead!
@@gijoburg lol! I got the MCC the next Christmas. And yeah, small children were always a hazard with the Flagg. They would walk and crawl on it, or they would remove the missiles, radar dish and anything else that was removable. Don't get me wrong, it was an awesome toy, and a lot of my friends were jealous, but it just wasn't very practical as a playset.
had one of these when i was a kid. loved it. was very lucky to have one. had a GI Joe tank too, think it was called the warthog that was smaller but even more fun some how
The Warthog is the greatest! Armoured and filled with troops. And it could float. And it had teeth and eyes. And it was green. What's not to love?
Awesome review, man! I was blown away by the MCC when I say it advertised back in the day, but I was never able to get it. Now I have it, I don't really buy the concept of an unfolding vehicle/command centre, but I love the details.
Best toys are those that almost got away, MCC is a plastic treasure trove of awesome,
Wow, my favorite part is definitely the computer room/screens.
Mine too! Sometimes the briefings for the mission ahead was more intriguing than the mission itself!
Had one when I was a kid always remember it
Lucky boy! It's super cool.
Great review! Love the podcast too!
Thanks Ben, great to have you on our Joe team.
had this. loved this. miss this.
Get it back, bud!
Loved this. My childhood
Awesome! I want to play at your house then. The biggest vehicle I had growing up was the Hammerhead!
Bought the vintage set because of this video I always thought the tackle/sewing box style was stupid but this video made me appreciate this playset thank you
Hope you're happy with your purchase! We love this thing.
Just found this channel. Hands down best Joe reviewers on RUclips. Looking forward to more content!
Lofty praise indeed. Thanks Chris. We may be infrequent... But we are here to stay.
Wow, that AA gun on tracks has been reissued so many times. Mine was dark green and I still have it. Sadly, I never saw this toy hit the shelves in my city. It's such a letdown when toy brands don't release things like this. I would definitely have bought one.
Me too! The games kid me could have played…
Great review--keep them coming!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for the support! We most certainly will keep them coming!
You know what would have made this even better?
If the cockpit could seperate and "fly" around to defend the base or act as a scout craft. They could even make the middle seat stay behind to still drive the MCC.
Or it's feasible that the main computer on level 2 can also drive the MCC. It is fueled by pure imaginum. :{J
😝
I loved that playset
A base that can move! What's not to love? Yeah, it's a goody...
The sandcrawlers not a playset! Oh sxxt. Yeah. The G.I. Joe thing. It was okay. The holes on the side threw me. I remember that.
I loved that thing
Yep, still our go-to mobile base. Often imitated; never surpassed. Thanks for commenting!
Not sure if I talked about this before, but I always thought this was a great companion piece to the Shuttle Complex due to the radar tower the MCC had and could also serve well as an improvised Radar Tower for a quickly made airfield that was slapped together in a combat zone. PS: Speaking of Radar Towers, will you guys ever review the Cobra Battle Station playsets? I mean, they're not as famous as the Terrordome, but they make great additions to any Cobra Compound, especially their Radar Dome and their Bunker. The firing range is great too.
If you take the Defiant to be quartered at the PIT III, I reckon this badboy is pulling double duty as ATC for incoming aircraft and launch control for the Defiant. Good call. The comics went on to put RADAR units in fake rocks and stuff but the earlier books used the MCC. I wish they’d have done a callback to that.
As for the smaller playsets, to my great shame I don’t have any! No real plans to track them down either, but you’re right, they’re terrific review fodder. I love the interior stickers. Such great detail.
My GI Joes lasted hardly more then 3days. On the 4th day I use to do his autopsy and then cry all day to get me a new one. If my parents bought me this back in the day . . I wouldn't have finished school.
No MCC for this guy! Hehe, did you total the figures, is that what you’re saying? Ah well, at least you got the most out of them... literally played with TO DEATH.
Comedic to the point of Jeremy Clarkson. NICE!!
Amazing insight into possible applications for vehicle sections and parts.
Alastair Stokell we funny guys, Sully.
I wanted that as a kid
Whooo boy, if I knew of its existence as a kid, I would have lost my mind a little. I’d be sketching it in my school books all day long pining for it.
Great review! I had this as a kid...still in a box at my mom’s storage! Thanks!!!
Epic review. Toys are garbage compared to this nowadays.
Preach brother. I sometimes strain to believe something like the Flagg or Defiant (or this) could actually be found at a toy store back in the day. Retro forever.
Tell that to the Lego knockoff cod set
I can't believe you only have 7000 subscribes, you deserve better
There’s a lot to be said for quality over quantity Chen my man! I think we get thru to most Joe die-hards and that makes me a happy boy. Thanks for the encouragement!
It looks like a Star Wars Tank carried all the droids
Totally!
Lol the noises
Nice review.. I like your style on these...
Thank you very much!
Love the "tackle box" design. LoL
Stalker holding his gunshot wound. Nice touch
I don't remember this one but I do remember seeing The General and wanting it. Is it really that bad? I didn't see a review from your channel up. Loving your content. After seeing this, The Defiant, and Flagg I subbed. Awesome camera work and overall production.
I would have never left my room with this as a kid 😮
Great review, just subbed!
Thanks James!
Awesome review! It's so rare to see the back of this toy shown.
Thank you! We totally picked the MCC because no one else had gotten around to reviewing it yet! And yes, that back portion is a bit of a unicorn.
lol
I think of it as a sandcrawler too.
I remember having this one, my dad would never let me take out with me to my friends so none of them believed i had it
Probably a smart move on his part. Jealous kids can be destructive and hefting this around can take its toll! But I have to ask, what was its fate?
No my father was a miserable shit who didnt like his kids going out and having fun cos he never did, one of my grandparents always went away from the end of Nov to late Jan and we ended up with their car but he's never take me with it. Between moving houses parts were lost and eventually 6 years after I got it he just gave what was left, amongst other toys he'd decided to, to the kids next door
The upside? Nobody can tell you what to do with your toys now!!!
True
the removable lift acts as a lock for the levels when in mobile mode
Right on! I suppose if you pick it up from the top only it might try to splay! Good observation.
I loved those toys.
Is there anything like them nowadays? I know "The Corps"
Love it and the pity about 1987 vehicles are the high amount of plastics used that turn brittle over time. For some reason part of that years production were made on some substandard plastics we must all be aware of.
RTD1 good to know. Fortunately our MCC is the 2005 reissue. But if we ever get our hands on a Defiant... Well we'll have to build a skateboard to support its heft and assist that bloody gantry as it moves into launch position! That's if we're feeling brave!
Great review. Just to follow up your comment about the set being fragile, I have to agree. I too bought the Spy Troops version and during assembly somehow managed to break a tab on one of the top level flip over panel/landing pads. This plastic is model quality and is very hard. By that I mean parts like the tabs will not bend and special attention should be paid to them during play. Again great job. Yo Joe!
Couldn't agree more. Joe vehicles always had a 'model kit' feel to the plastic. And some really fine details always prone to stress and crack. Don't worry, plenty of breakages in the GI Joburg motorpool!
An awesome review of an awesome toy :-)
Sweet review! :) But where's the toilet at? ... Just kidding. Keep up the great videos. Sam from the machiwoomiapoo channel. I just had to plug it as well. Take care!
What a name! You from Down Under? Or Kiwi?
Great review.
Well thank you very much!
Excellent review soldier... Yo Joe!
Thank you, sir!
I used to have one!!!
Love the sound effects
Thanks! We really ran with it and now our Atlantis Factor series features human-made sound only! Ha ha ha. Because I'm lazy...
Thank you for the review
You are very welcome! Thanks for commenting!
I had this!
I adore these fun in depth Joe reviews. These sets seem so fun
You guys gotta go back to doing some more reviews like this. Classic Joburg. What about the Night Raven or Sky Raven?
Sensacional. É o veículo que eu mais gosto!
Cobra commander is going in the hot box.
You know it! A stark departure from the sculpted bedding from the 1983 HQ!
Amazing! It looks like a "plumbers toolbox" but I like it.
Hasbro should have released this for the movie.
Sitou Dien naaaah! Didn't you dig the PIT vehicle/playset?
No. I didn't either.
man i forgot all about this thing....i had it and it was one of my favs
Wish I still had mine.. just have parts of it laying around..
I missed an opportunity to get this from a kid before for cheap before it was put in a yard sale prior to his moving. I don't know what I was thinking.
