      I agree... but I guess vehicle drivers were the easiest to lose in the shuffle. Gone we’re the days of Mr Hama writing an entire comic around the Strato Viper or Mr Dixon writing an entire episode around Cross Country!

    I was looking at the Firebat blueprints and the ordnance is all bombs. But the Firebat has to be an interceptor to make any sense, otherwise what's the Terrordrome's defense against jets? Those turret guns? Not enough range probably.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  5 лет назад

      Very true. Also there’s no way it would need to be so blisteringly fast if it was a dedicated ground attack craft so what to do? Imagine the longer bombs are missiles? Or figure out a custom missile load out? Surely there are missiles out there that would fit her with a little modding! Condor perhaps? Too bad the Firebat doesn’t use the same dumbbell posts.

    The Joes primary counterpart to that aircraft should have been the Conquest X30. It was also designed specifically for dogfighting, and the aircraft it was based on (X-29 test plane) was at the time (and might still be) the most manueverable jet aircraft in the world.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 лет назад +2

      I couldn't agree more. It's purely unfortunate timing to blame for all the times they pitted the X-30 up against a spyplane in the comics and cartoons. Joe and Cobra jets were always fated to be mismatched it seems!

    I always wanted one of those, I wish they would reissue it with the technical shortcomings addressed. The only improvement I would add would be a second gun, I like duel laser or Gatling guns on and air or space craft. I know it maybe G. I. Joe sacrilege but I often mixed Star Wars and G. I. Joe together, especially during the nineties when decant SW toys and weapons hit the retail market

      The Rattler is absolutely gorgeous. If I wasn’t a stickler for aircraft fulfilling appropriate roles I’d just have two planes in my airforce- that and the Night Raven. And the Firebat is fun; only a little daft... is it manned or a drone?! It came with a pilot; but the comics made it out to be unmanned.

    • @hexagram3timesthree723
      @hexagram3timesthree723 5 лет назад +2

      @@gijoburg The Rattler and the Night Raven are pretty much the only two iconic jet that Cobra has ever fielded. I wasn't aware that the Firebat was portrayed as unmanned-presumbably- in the comics. I have read only one issue from the old comics, and it was when Destro and his Sergeant Major flew a small helicopter against a Firebat and miraculously defeated said Firebat, haha. I've always viewed the jet as an almost kamikaze-like attack craft since going by its appearance, it wouldn't have that much of an combat loitering time. I dunno.

      Well, know that Cobra Commander has a certain obsession with VTOL capability. If they really wanted to incorporate VTOL into what is effectively a 4.5 generation fighter, instead of pivoting the wing, they could have just had the rear nozzles, swing down and have a lift fan right behind the cockpit, perhaps. (Kind of like on a Yak 38 Forger.) Aside from that the shape of this plane is really quite appealing.
