    The Sea Ray was one of my last vehicles i got when i was a kid. I remember not liking the looks when separated. But when combined it was the coolest futuristic vehicle cobra had.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 лет назад +1

      Yep. The separation is naff. But all the ways you can play with this thing really elevate the fun factor. Flying submarines. They shouldn't exist. But I'm so glad they do.

  • @humblefam6462
    @humblefam6462 5 лет назад +3

    One of the best parts about having kids is sharing our childhood toys with them and how they actually appreciate the classics more than the modern “toys” of today. Can’t tell you how many hours we’ve spent playing with our Joes together and how many memories we’ve made already! And yes, we have a Sea Ray in our collection so we enjoyed this review. Ok, the Sea Ray isn’t exactly a realistic concept, but who cares - it’s such a cool vehicle regardless. Yo Joe!

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  5 лет назад +3

      I can't tell you how thrilling it is to hear accounts like this. There must be nothing better in this world than playing with the toys you love with your kin! And toys like the Sea Ray are the coolest. A flying submarine?! What could be more fun! No further justification needed.

    I'm so excited you uploaded a video today, and this one was great. My neighbor/friend growing up had a Sea Ray from a mail-in offer, I think. Our biggest Joe years were 90-93, so that had to be it.
    Also, I just got that orange Battle Corps Wet Suit on Friday and I love him. I had the yellow one as a kid, but lost his helmet IMMEDIATELY, rendering him useless.

    I remember having this as a kid... I got it through a mail-away offer. I'm guessing I totally overlooked the fact that it was two vehicles because mine came in boring white box. I always thought the handles underneath were meant to hold an EEL, so that's what I did with them. To think back on those times in the pool and realize I had two vehicles in one... damn. Well, at least my idea with them worked well enough.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  7 лет назад +1

      To be honest, it's better as one unit. I always reckoned split apart features were designed with siblings in mind. So that parents didn't have to buy duplicate toys, but each child had a component to play with. But now they're just bonkers. Just be glad you didn't have a big brother breathing down your neck for your Sea Ray!

    The fact a Sea Ray can shoot upwards in shallows reminds me a lot of how stingrays attack people in real life. You accidentally step on or near it and it whips its tail upwards and hits you with its stinger.

    I figured out who to put on the glider. I feel uncomfortable having the thrusters so close to the legs and the Mach 2 speeds would kill a man. Only candidates that make sense are a BAT (preferably a amphibious model. Maybe Red Lazer.) or MAYBE a Cobra-La character or one of the very late Monster or alien action figures as we don't know what they can or can't handle.

    Super solid review. Fine work as always.
    I’ve always liked the Sea Ray as a vehicle and it’s nice to see a Cobra vehicle that has not only a direct Joe counterpart, but also dare I say one-ups the Sharc.
    I’d say, if I had to guess, the separation aspect would be useful more as a multi personnel delivery system. The ray delivers a couple eels into the shallows, maybe even a single man, detaches to allow the teammate to use the hang-glider mode, and then skulks about in the pod until the mission needs him back. Otherwise, aside from some fancy maneuvers, there’s no real reason to split for a single pilot.
    A thought, though: an aircraft-styled submersible would be similarly effective underwater as far as increased mobility, so perhaps they decided it would just be smart to use it’s apparently massively overpowered engines to hurtle through the sky as well.

    I always loved water based toys, the sad thing is I don't live near an ocean, or have a pool, or bathtub, which makes me sad. But that won't stop me from imagining they're under water, just wont be as fun.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  4 года назад

      If I’m brutally honest, playing in actual water is in danger of being overrated. It’s difficulty to really get into the narrative of the mission; you’re always battling the elements. My best playtimes involved imaginary combat in deep water. So keep it up!

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 лет назад +3

      Let's say I wouldn't use a museum-quality specimen on these shoots; but I've been playing at sea with pretty much all my childhood collection since I got them with no ill effects. Salt water does make a residue that will cling to the figure's t-hook (onto which the legs attach), so I'd advise you to rinse with fresh water after play! And yes, screws will rust. But keeping aquatic figures away from water is a bigger crime in my books!
