This is _crazy!_ I invented a few games back in the late 70s in public school that were quite popular at school and one of them was basically this game.

Doesn't make sense that the books that give you more monsters count the same as one.
Matt had almost twice as many to start with.
Yeah, I imagine that's where the rules with spells for the different books comes in to play, cause with these basic rules, unless everyone teamed up on Matt, there was no way he'd lose.
I was curious too and looked it up. The mode they played was a simple basic form where all creatures are equal, so it'd make sense to either use just the big or small ones, or a fair mix of both between players. Though the manual doesn't say that, it just says all monsters are equal.
Seems like they have different stats and abilities when you get into the more complex modes.
