Brands are not required to say if it is full, top or genuine. They can call it crossed grain, smooth, calf leather, bovine leather , pebbled, caviar, etc.
I know Orginal Genuine Peblled leather from coach is an example you like to bring up , but they use genuine for their "genuine alligator" which iare bags on the 8k , 10k for their rogues, they also have genuine ostrich, genuine caiman, etc. They also call their smooth glove tanned: original golve tanned leather. Without the genuine .

I have overwhelmingly found (obviously with some exceptions) that if a brand is using something higher quality than "genuine leather," they are happy to disclose that. Again, there are exceptions! And as you said nobody is required to declare anything really. And on that note, when there is a clarification along with the word 'genuine' usually that does mean an additional fact about that leather. For instance genuine vachetta leather is not actually "genuine leather" (meaning split leather, in this case). Instead the usage of genuine in that instance means that it is authentic vachetta. Obviously the verbiage makes some things confusing! But it's all very interesting. Maybe I should make another short explaining this point too ☺️

I would be careful to recommend genuine leather. Genuine leather is actually the lowest quality of leather. Albeit this video is more focused for a cost focused crowd, sometimes spending a little bit more for quality goes farther in terms of ROI
