Yea, our part of the state hasn't had but 2" of rain since spring, so the streams are SUPER picked out. I have found some good ones in the past month and a half, but you have to really go slow to find them.
That looks like the same type of rocks I find in NW Minnesota. I found the best places to hunt for agates in Minnesota is South & SW of Duluth. All the way to Central Minnesota. Good luck on your future rockhound adventures! 😊
With the big one, I'd take it anyway and figure it out later. lol Of course, like others have said, it's something you can put outside if you had a place to do so. There's always the bathtub! 🙃
That's interesting that you're finding such different rocks. It's similar to looking for agates in Lake Michigan, most glowers are just quartz and chalcedony. I pick up soooo many glowy rocks before I actually find something great
@rodenbergrocks It does, different beaches and locations can have such different things to find and it's exciting to find something you haven't seen before in the wild. We have such a variety of things in Lake Michigan, I've got a bunch of neat things like cold water agates posted on my igram, and I follow others who also collect near me. If you see anything else you'd like to tumble, I'm happy to send you some extras I already have, or look for more for you.
Yea, the lack of rain this season has made the streams dry up again, and everything is picked over and out, many times over. I bet the quartz there has been picked up by 7-8 people before you. At first I thought, now why isn't he checking those out??? I am seeing more quartz in the places that I go to this year also. I believe the thaw has mostly to do with that. Even Agatedad hasn't been making any hunting videos for a while, so everyone is really trying to figure out where to hunt. In fact one of my favorite spots has been found because of the drought, and I think about 4 or 5 different people are going there each week. No one is finding anything, but it just goes to show just how hard everyone is looking for a place to find some agates.
It could be Mica, that was my assumption too. It sounds like schist is another possible option of what it could be! If only I had a garden for it at the moment…
I think it still has potential, just gonna have to invest in some more time!! I appreciate the worry, I just have small nostrils so I am a mouth breather!
That's definitely a coffee table rock!😁
A nice centerpiece! I would love to make coasters out of it!
Looks like a lot of footprints in that area. I think maybe the people before you got ‘em all. 😉

Who could it have been?? 🤔😂
Looks like a great way to spend a morning. I'm glad you didn't get skunked!
Always a good way to start the day in some nature :)

I guess I will have to make my way further south of Duluth to see if I can find these best places! It was still a fun hunt nonetheless :)
I agree. My two streams I hunt are south of Duluth. I think there's a thin line of some VERY unique agates only found there.
With the big one, I'd take it anyway and figure it out later. lol Of course, like others have said, it's something you can put outside if you had a place to do so. There's always the bathtub! 🙃
I think a bathtub is a great idea 😂

Maybe I just need to get used to that when I look for rocks outside of my comfort zone 😂 oh well! It makes a find even more special!

Up here in Lake Ontario we have quartz galore. Not an agate in sight though. So even one would be a thrill.
That sounds like what I experienced on this specific hunt 😂 it’s a challenge but rewarding!

The early bird gets the worm in some cases! Once some rain comes, there will be lots and lots of people out and about 😂
Yea, and I hope they go back to their spots.
I believe that shiny silvery one is mica schist. I find it here in Ct with tiny garnets in it.
Mica schist does make a lot of sense! Do you have agates in CT too?
No agates here. In fact I don’t find the rocks here very interesting 🥲. We do have lots of quartz!
I wonder if spots like this are better to visit after a nice downpour. The algae/muck buildup in the calm waters has to hide a few agates.
You are reading my mind. We just got a nice downpour yesterday so it may be time to go out and look again!
@@rodenbergrocks Hopefully with viewing bucket 2.0 😉
Is it Mica?
I would put the quartz in my flower bed

Stromatolite it is.
Can’t wait to polish it :)
Garden rock it would go.
Not a bad idea 🤔
The grey sparkly rock is schist. Basically metamorphic mica. Just need to be careful when talking about schist on camera!
Not a word you can pronounce to fast on camera 😂😂 thanks for the insight!
You know I thought it was Mica Schist. Thank you. I see it once in a while, but there's a big pile of it at one of my creeks. Thank you again.
That place looked like it had potential! Sounds like you have trouble breathing…just concerned.
