In case anyone is wondering why this exists. Its for military transport. But in order to stay as a "legal airline," they have to do at least one flight a month with paying passengers.
Nine passengers don't change the center of gravity of a 767 AT ALL... the crew simply didn't want anyone in the front and concentrated everyone in the same area to get the onboard service done faster...
Agree. When I arrive and air stairs are used, I wave coming down as the Beatles did arriving in NY on the Pan American jet clipper. If I depart using air stairs, at the top I turn around and wave as is I am the president about to board Air Force One.
Wow!! Eastern Airlines, never thought I'd see them in the air again. I miss Eastern, I also miss Piedmont airlines, they too were a great airline. Thank you for posting this, who knew???
I grew up in a small town Piedmont served, back in the day with the Japanese YS-11 turboprop, ending at DCA. It was a linear route with several stops on the way. I did also take a Piedmont 727 from Roanoke VA to Chicago ORD 40-some years ago.
Love the Rolls Royce engines on this 767. That is rare. But as you said - BA was the first operator and they try to only order their A/C with RR engines. They also sound totally different than the PW 4060 series, Interior def all original! The business class seats in the back - so funny! Great video!
This aircraft also flew for Qantas in Australia VH-ZXC and was used mostly on domestic routes. 7 of the RR powered aircraft were with Qantas ZXA to ZXG.
I remember flying the Eastern Airlines back in the day, we used to love flying Eastern. The wide body L-1011, it was my favorite plane to fly on. Great memories!
Growing up in Boston, we flew Eastern all the time in the 70s/80s to Florida and visiting my Grandparents. I also spent a few years working in/around Logan Airport in Boston and Eastern had their own terminal, which has since been demolished and redone as the Delta/WestJet terminal
Great video! You have a soothing voice perfect for narration! I recently read on Airliners civil chatroom that Eastern is planning again to start commercial service using their B-777 aircraft from the US to foreign destinations. Also, I flew the original Eastern airlines many times in the early 80's. At that time they had an unlimited all you could fly deal within a 21 or so day time period. I flew them from San Francisco to Barbados and many places in between . It was a time when a passport was not needed for travel to the Caribbean or Mexico. Aircraft included the L10-11, many 727-200's, DC9-30's, and the fairly new A-300! Most flights had a full hot meal service and the coach seats had nice legroom, plus they gave out pillows, magazines, and playing cards! It was the end of an era!
@@grumman7772 I flew this trip in about 1980, did Eastern have the B-757 in it's fleet then? I think they also had DC-9-50 and B-727-100 aircraft too, but I don't remember the 757 in 1980.
I used to look for night flights in my traveling years, everything more laid back (including turbulence.) Watching as the dark countryside rolled away beneath us, interspersed with glowing cities shimmering like beds of jewels, and the magic of a crystal clear view of the moon if I was lucky. I miss the experience of flying in those pre 9/11 days.
Great video of this unique airline. I flew on the original Eastern a dozen times in the late 80's usually on their 757's to DCA, Bradley (Hartford) and Atlanta - even flew on one of their 757's to Providence, RI.
I flew Eastern several times “back in the day.” I have good memories of my Eastern flights on the Whisperliner and Whisperjet aircraft. It’s bittersweet to see this video. BTW, thank you for including the take-off and landing footage. 😊
Thank you for sharing a legacy airline being used for charter and carrying service men and women. Yes, I remember the older airline with it's old L1011s. Those were some great aircraft to fly.😊
I grew up in South FL and my friend down the street's dad worked as a mechanic for Eastern before they closed up shop and they moved to North Carolina. I remember taking Eastern from Ft Laud or Miami all the time as a kid to visit family. The other airline I always remember as a kid was Piedmont which was of course snagged up by American and now only runs as a regional airline.
Miami is home for me. My favorite airlines were all from Miami.. Eastern, National and Pan Am. There was a smaller airline called Mackey Airlines that I remember flying DC-6s to the Bahamas. They went out of business in 1981.
I have fond memories of Eastern as a kid. My first airline line experience was with Eastern flying as a 10 year old to my native Puerto Rico in the late 60’s. It was a whisper Jet. I remember having chicken with rice and beans and Coca Cola. And yes, real silverware. Great life experience as a kid.

This vid brought back memories of the original Eastern based out of Miami, Atlanta, NY and LAX with other hubs I’m sure. I grew up in Atlanta meaning you basically either flew Delta or Eastern. Hartsfield International, as it was called then, was an extremely busy airport even then. I even applied to be a flight attendant with Eastern.
I was a ticket agent for the original Eastern before I became a flight Attendant for the then USAir. It was a fun job…I don’t know who is funding this flight being empty…it won’t last ….and BTW! That’s not food and beverage service.
I flew the same tail MIA-SDQ in June, 2023. If I had paid the $400 they were charging for business class I would have been livid. The service was barely that with the crew less than enthusiastic. My friend and I, however, loved the crusty experience. He returned on AA to Miami and I continued to PTY on Copa. Thanks for sharing!
Hola from Ecuador! We were excited to have Eastern fly into Guayaquil (GYE) They were good because they really didn’t have a baggage limit, so many expats used them to move to Ecuador - all other carriers have baggage embargos that severely restrict the number of bags permitted. Although Eastern advertised Quito (UIO) I don’t think that route came to fruition. I don’t think we ever got the 777 to GYE, only the 767-200 and 300. Eastern also got the contract to repatriate US citizens during the COVID lockdown.
@@alexbeuerman7608I was a pilot with CX for 14 years. I flew the 747-400’s which were primarily powered by RB211s. We had some ex Singapore Airlines 747’s which were powered by P&W’s. Sorry to disappoint all the people guessing the one flight a month is Money Laundering or a CIA operation. I very surprised that no one else has stated the reason, it has this fight. US Regulations, requirements are that a Carrier must have regular scheduled service, to maintain its operating licence! In other words, use it or loose it! So the only way to have complete control over its own company, is by offering one flight a month on a very short route! I heard of another U.S. Carrier that operated a similar service between Ontario, CA. To Reno NV. So its charter service is dependent on this route.

Hey, I'm actually a Miami based 737 pilot for AA. I've always wondered what's going on with Eastern. I had an application on file with them before AA called me. Great video! Seems like they keep buying 737s, which is odd for an airline that keeps contracting? Also, I believe Omni Air still operates some 767-200s? Friend of mine flies for them, so I'll ask him later today.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Looks like Omni does have a few 762s, thanks for letting me know. :) As far as I could tell from the limited public information available, so take this with a grain of salt, Eastern is using their 737s primarily for luxury charter type stuff, while their widebodies focus on long term leasing and contracts, giving them some diversity, but they are a private company so who knows!
I was once scheduled on dynamic airways from JFK to Cancun… they sent a plane that was too small so the check in people had to count out the people in the check in line that would fit and the rest were…. out of luck. My family were the ones that were out of luck. No refunds issued, no apology emails, nothing. It was horrendous and to this day my family will never forget.
I flew Eastern way back - on the Shuttle, on the Florida routes, and even had my only compressor stall! The latter was on a 727 from LaGuardia to Richmond. A very loud bang on takeoff, a shudder, and I have no fear of flying, but I looked around to see if anyone else was startled. That plane sat in SHV for almost a month in 2023! Supposedly, it was doing some type of military charter however, not sure why it would park and stay at SHV and not Barksdale Air Force Base. Unless there was a customs issue! Needless to say, it was cool seeing it here parked on the ramp!
9 people with their luggage is appx 1 ton.On an empty plane 1 ton’s location in the cabin is very important.People forget there is something called “ weight & balance”…and it’s very important.
@ as a 737 Rated ATP with 9600 in type the weight and balance of 2000 lbs on a 767 is nothing to even consider. (I know the Cessna guys or weekend warriors will disagree). But In a 767 Fuel distribution is the concern whether 9 Pax or 269 . B-727 FE B-737 (200-Max) KC-135 KC-10 Lear 35/55 Beech 1900c Emb-120 C-210 C-152/172
Love your style! subbed. Were you influenced by Alex Praglowski? as your style is clearly exactly formatted like his. would love to know! btw, the seatbelt sign on at cruise didn't mean you were forced to stay in your seat and couldnt use the bathroom if you wanted to.
This was one of the best Airline always on time except for the Weather 😮 you can ask any employee pilots flight attendants any person that used to fly with Eastern Airlines was the best ❤I wish the best for Eastern I know they can make it happen again Good luck Eastern 🎉
they have a government contract and they have to provide one domestic scheduled flight so that they can keep the contract and keep being certified that's what it is
I like how you're also using a Sony Xperia phone, just like me! I really wish they sold more models in the US. I have an imported 10 V and I absolutely love that the battery lasts very long and that it still has a headphone jack.
@PlaneStuffnThings Yep, the Xperia 10 series is essentially what the Google Pixel 3a-5a would have been had that lineage been continued. I really liked Google phones, and had been using a Pixel 5a, Pixel 3a XL, Nexus 6P, and Nexus 5 before then - Tensor made me jump ship.
I’m not picky but…you’d think that with a load of 9 passengers, the flight attendants could have hand run soft drinks with ice. A warm can of soda with no cup and no ice…seriously. Vlogger Noel Phillips got the same on Eastern last year…a can of soda, no ice, and a very warm bottle of water.
Yep, an oddball indeed. History has proven that attempts to bring back a brand from the dead, are folly, especially with airlines. Save for Frontier, I can not think of another long-deceased carrier from the past that exists today, successfully. Some will point to Frontier, but that is in name only, the business model is wildly different from what was offered in the '60s through the '80s and needless to say, the branding (love those animal tails). Bringing back Braniff on 3 different occasions failed miserably, ditto for Pan Am, People’s Express (why anyone would want to bring that horror show back is a mystery to me), and some rumors of another Western. I am all for nostalgia, I flew all of these carriers in their original state, but they failed and died for a reason, let them R.I.P. I come from a Braniff family (my Grandfather was a F/O on their DC-8s, who retired in 1980) with more fond memories than I can recall. Like I said earlier, these attempts to bring back these carriers are a complete waste of limited resources, IMO.
When I was much younger, I was a member of the WHEAL Club: "We Hate Eastern Air Lines," which we called the worst professional airline, in contrast to Piedmont, the best amateur airline.
With the company logo change a bit back, glad the aircraft still sports the classic Eastern Airlines logo + modified hockey stick livery. Regardless of how different it is from OG Eastern, if they go with the original branding, they should stick with it - simple yet elegant IMO.
This plane is no regular 767 it is the RB211-524G/H higher thrust version... and if u are in row 34 with full pax its unbelievably loud & takeoff rox ur socks
“Especially with the US military which I’m sure pays quite well”. So true. Probably get rates 100x the norm. Hopefully the new DOGE will address this kind of crap
Doesn’t have the stripes right at all. Eastern was the first to have a “hockey stick” stripe going up the vertical stabilizer. The blue shades are off too. It’s for shit.
That crew rest facility is borderline not even legal to even be called crew rest Active pilot on a 767 competitor of Eastern doing airline stuff Needs to be able to not just recline, but also lay flat in a sleeping position. Those seats certainly do not. Crazy.
This isn't the same Eastern Airlines that was around 30 year's ago it's just a charter airline that bought the Eastern name your not going to see this airline a most of your airports once in awhile they do come up to Toronto on a charter flight with sports teams and after seeing there planes i think they have seen better days

Exactly right.
Love your style! subbed. Were you influenced by Alex Praglowski? as your style is clearly exactly formatted like his. would love to know! btw, the seatbelt sign on at cruise didn't mean you were forced to stay in your seat and couldnt use the bathroom if you wanted to.
I am definitely inspired by Alex Praglowski, along with Simply Aviation, huge fan of both of them!
This is the first time I’ve seen this new retro livery. Looks good.
Really great video....subscribed and liked (and left a comment :) )
Good content! Going to sub, see where you go!
Glad to have you! :)
I got to sit in the cockpit of N706KW back in 2022
This was one of the best Airline always on time except for the Weather 😮 you can ask any employee pilots flight attendants any person that used to fly with Eastern Airlines was the best ❤I wish the best for Eastern I know they can make it happen again Good luck Eastern 🎉
they have a government contract and they have to provide one domestic scheduled flight so that they can keep the contract and keep being certified that's what it is
I love you are just factual in your reporting/description.
I like how you're also using a Sony Xperia phone, just like me! I really wish they sold more models in the US. I have an imported 10 V and I absolutely love that the battery lasts very long and that it still has a headphone jack.
I got my Xperia mainly for the headphone jack and the lack of a notch, no regrets!
Seen this in Shannon Ireland a few times doing military flights.
I came across an Eastern plane in 2021 in Sofia Airport, Bulgaria
Eastern airlines, was a a great airline
I’m not picky but…you’d think that with a load of 9 passengers, the flight attendants could have hand run soft drinks with ice. A warm can of soda with no cup and no ice…seriously.
Vlogger Noel Phillips got the same on Eastern last year…a can of soda, no ice, and a very warm bottle of water.
I saw a eastern 777-300 Landing at Greensboro international in North Carolina
I’ve gotta do this someday… the RR powered 763s are rare beasts. I wonder why eastern specifically went for them.
“The Wings of Man.” Lol
Eastern in the 70s was great! The food was good.
I was looking forward to flying with them from BOS to CNF but they canceled that route
are there currently back to commercial operations or are they still operating as a charter?
Sadly not
I wonder if the pilots and crew also work for other airlines, considering how few flights eastern operates.
SDQ is sure different than the 1980s and '90s.
These guys just did another attempt at an ETOPS proving run last week.
I know it's retro but I have always been a fan of the hockey stick livery so I was pretty cool to get to see it in person, even if it changed a bit!
Weight and balance concerns....with just 9 passengers? 😅 But rare is seeing one with Rolls Royce RB-211s
Good video. Thank you.
This plane is no regular 767 it is the RB211-524G/H higher thrust version... and if u are in row 34 with full pax its unbelievably loud & takeoff rox ur socks
The sound was crazy even in 29!
Special order for qantas
SDQ airport is pretty busy, but their main airport is Punta Cana...
“Especially with the US military which I’m sure pays quite well”. So true. Probably get rates 100x the norm. Hopefully the new DOGE will address this kind of crap
Eastern was our family airline when I was growing up... Flew them everywhere out of ORF 😅
They're back in business?
We need to bring old airlines back.
We need to have money for these. We need to have ambitions for this. Visionaries. Routes. Personell.
The Eastern airline's plane does not have the eastern logo. Only has eastern stripes and name.
Maybe the logo was retired with the original Eastern Airlines.? 😮
@ Very good point. I’d love to see Eastern Airlines brought back to life (with original logo) as a full fledged airline. I love the livery.
Doesn’t have the stripes right at all. Eastern was the first to have a “hockey stick” stripe going up the vertical stabilizer. The blue shades are off too. It’s for shit.
@ I did notice the absence of the “hockey stick” on the tail. Still, it’s weird as he said.
I'd like to see a charter company buy the ValuJet brand.
There have been other videos on this strange flight. I get the impression it’s a glorified ghost flight as Eastern focuses on charter flights.
Very interesting, 7:36.
Are you sure the food was not from 1991?
That crew rest facility is borderline not even legal to even be called crew rest
Active pilot on a 767 competitor of Eastern doing airline stuff
Needs to be able to not just recline, but also lay flat in a sleeping position. Those seats certainly do not. Crazy.
20 people wouldn’t have ANY APPRECIABLE EFFECT on the CG of a 767-300!
they stopped operating the flight this year
i didnt know the 767 could have those engines
Rare fit for sure. British Airways used them back then as well on their B767
@@RafaelPerez-mn4ld ohhh, this 767 was used by BA also
@goofyahhslug8574 Oh, now that, I didn't knew.😮
This isn't the same Eastern Airlines that was around 30 year's ago it's just a charter airline that bought the Eastern name your not going to see this airline a most of your airports once in awhile they do come up to Toronto on a charter flight with sports teams and after seeing there planes i think they have seen better days
