A "little dated"???? This is the Imperium! We use designs that come from the age of technology and are AT LEAST 10,000 years old. Many of our vehicles are decades if not centuries old. These kits aren't old. They are true classics! :)
Cadian Sergeant Steel, buddy, keep up the great work please! Very much appreciate the "Unit Review" posts. I am fairly new to 40K/Guard and I am finding these posts extremely helpful. The format and content is excellent!
You touched very lightly on one of my favorite ways to use the Chimera- as a weapons carrier. Toss a weapons squad into the Chimera and you have a light tank. The Dakka Chimera boasts 4 Heavy Bolters (turret, hull, and two Heavy Bolter teams shooting out of the back) or the Beamer Chimera with two Heavy Bolters and two Lascannons. All of a sudden you have two pretty cheap tanks that can really reach out and hurt stuff- the Dakka is quite nice against SME troops.
I kitbash pretty much everything, and mix and match 3rd party stuff as well and mainly just like modeling for my army's fluff. My army is quite a collection of forces of different origins fighting alongside each other on an imperial planet. My most regular chimera has a wheeled conversion, it's a police chimera which much like the local police force operating it is being pressed into service against the forces of Chaos. I went for a multilaser on the policemera, as in the lore there is reference to imperial laser weapons being able to be set to stun. So fluff wise it can be used in riot control, with the multi laser dialed down to less than lethal or of course in security or anti banditry roles with that multi laser very much set to lethal! I think such vehicles and world building are a natural fit to detachments accompanying guard, genestealer cult and chaos cult forces!
Ran a Catachan squad inside with turret heavy flamer and hull heavy flamer for an “oops! All flamers” area denial tool. Over watching with that was quite fun for me, not so much for my opponent!
I miss the old Veterans rule where you could take shotguns. I had a squad of 10 Veteran Catachans and Straken in a Heavy Flamer chimera. Every special weapon was a type of flamer, and there was a special order for Catachans that made fire better. I rarely needed to charge with that unit.
That's a big oops for the opponent because a player who actually pays attention 9/10 times just avoids the 12" overwatch. Unless its a desperate Tyranid or Deathguard player that needs the objective bad. I find the grenade launcher, sniper rifle and sergeant with boltgun to be so much more useful than the melta/flamethrower/plasma pistol load out I see people go straight for. Not to forget that all too often those troops with flamers get killed before even making an attack because they are always out of range and by the time they get closer its a wrap anyways. And that lack of firepower that could have been used in the earlier round with longer range weapons could have kept them alive by either hurting the enemy or outright killing enough of the enemy to reduce that unit damage output on yours. That flambé overwatch is tantilizing but unless that unit missed most of the action long enough to get in the way without being obliterated, it's rather too situational. And chances are your Chimera will be blown on round 1 if it rolled out of cover round 1, so consider yourself lucky. I find that unless I'm deep striking, all my guard units need to be attacking something round 1, because chances are third wont be around half way through the game. So I get the best out of them on average using long range wargear options.
You are correct. And well crud... now I am putting out bad information, again. But it's my fault this time and now GW changing a unit card without telling us like it happened in my Crassus review 😅
Love your content while getting into astra militarum. I’ve been running chimera with flamers just to so I atleast have some overwatch for swarms, deploy some kasrkin and just thin the hordes
Weirdly enough, Noble knight games said it sold and stocked a chimera interior kit on 5/15/24. I've never bought a recast item, but I've seen them in that department.
I will see your 5 Chimeras and raise you to 17, including 2 converted versions, a command variant and an Ogryn specific variant, all of which mount the autocannon, or twin linked heavy bolter turrets. I would be interested in any thoughts you might have regarding the use of these turret weapons. your models look great as well, nice video thanks
I think with the weapon changes in 10th, they all have a place now. I personally like to go with the Heavy Bolter as it can take out Space Marines or plink some wounds off of vehicles.
Hmmm... Chimera+ogryns+take aim+fields of fire and exterminator buffing AP makes the chimera one heck of a close range pillbox! Probably too much invested here but still it'd be fun.
Sergeant steel please disclose how you did the gunmetal(i am referring to the actual body AND the metallic anodised black you used on the barrel) on that chimera heavy bolter turret!
I absolutely love their battle reports. Both him and his brother do such good stuff 😍 and... I mean I guess it is obvious I like it enough to pay to have Sgt Steel part of their amazing stories 😄
Even with AP-1 it’s still significantly worse and everyone would take H.Bolters still. I went for the idea of upping the shots to compensate for the lack of AP and lack of D2
@@cavemansam8400 At least it would make it more anti chaff with the S6 and chaff won't benefit from cover thanks to -1 but at longer range unlike flamer. Heavy bolter is more anti elite and wounds chaff on 3. It's worse because everything has marine profiles but it's sorta balanced

I agree 😆 especially as someone who still has a decent chunk of metal models.
My RT era Guard still drives around in Rhinos. I remember when Chimeras were created.
@@MattTrussell that's fricking awesome!

how do you shoot 4 models out the back when each heavy weapons team is two models and you can only shoot 2 models out of the back?

Love me some Armoured coffins for Guard mobility.
The buffs you get from Catachan units really counters their Regimental fluff! 😂

Just in case you didn't know, firing deck doesn't work with overwatch
@@jacket2848 oh no! Ugh. Well the heavy flamers are still good on overwatch!
@@Schuschu1That's... Very dumb. Where is it in the rules exactly ? Cuz i've been doing this as well.

I've had 7 since 8th edition. Guess that is one too many now. Double hvy flamer was awesone with Tallaran swift as the wind rule.
I am going to join his ranks as well! Love the army reports
Love your vids bro, very detailed
Love the breakdown! One issue - isn't it true that you can't move after getting out of the Chimera, unless the Chimera hasn't moved yet?

I would really like to get a bolter emplacement myself, but also never find them.
That is very surprising 😮

Chimera Multilaser probably needs at least 8 shots to balance it against a heavy bolter. :/
I'd argue it needs AP 1

@@drizzziit1 Yeah just depends what you want to do with it. With AP-1 maybe you give it 5 or 6 shots instead of 8.
You can get 3d printed interior kits if you want. Or scratch build them if you are crazy, like myself. LOL.
