Yep---bassoons can cook just as well as the rest of them. (That little red thing didn't quite look like the rest of the bassoons, though!) I remember in the 1970's a friend had a record album of a double reed band playing the swing era hits--Miller, Dorsey, etc. and it was fantastic. Oboes can really scream!!! Thanks for this, very enjoyable. Those bassoonists are very good.
WOW. I take back everything bad I ever said about bassoons, bassoonists, bassoon music, bassoon cases, bassoon straps...well you get the point. This was BADASS!!!
I love everything about this Arrangement is juicy, drums are poppin, solos are funky as hell (that guy with the wah wah modulator on the bassoon sounds awesome lol), and the outro is fire
I think that’s why I find the Bassoon so awesome. It has the power to play every single part in a SATB just on the normal Bassoon! Then you have even bigger ones, and that funky sound it makes. So cool
Ah! at 2:37 -- I missed it the first time. I had to go back and find it! Also, then I see someone already added the time stamp in another comment --- so good!
I was a white boy bassoonist in Seattle's Central District in the 70s. At the time, I thought my symphonic world and the pop world didn't cross. I missed out on a lot. This is like an alternate reality, I could have lived. Thanks so much Evan!!!!
Having been alerted to the RoS reference by Samara, am I imagining a bit of Bolero just before it. And Tristan at the very start of that solo? Now listening out for other Easter Eggs!
Maybe it was Tristan sneaking in there!? Hmm, I honestly can't remember.. I use Rite a lot in soloing, that Major 7 outline fits nicely and people seem to like it, although a sax teacher once told me I was overdoing it 😂
Woahhhhhh. This was wonderfully magnificent!! I've never heard bassoons sound so jazzy! The arrangement was top-notch and all the guest players were fantastic. Love the unexpected melodica solo too!
Is it possible that these excellent improvised choruses use material from orchestral and classical pieces instead of using the fairly standard phraselets from the jazz repertoire? How refreshing!
my goodness! this is fantastic!! may i ask what editing software you used? we're currently trying to put a project together like this at texas lutheran university. thank you
This confirms the bassoon is the old man of the winds instruments.
No shit
@@Poempedoempoex nosh on it
Lol because folks refuse to let the bassoon innovate! The keys it has now we're controversial even!
My only regret is that I have but one upvote to give. Brilliant!
I wish my great friend Bassoonist Bill Scribner (BAE) was alive to see and hear this!!!!
The bassoon deserves more love
Honestly I can't decide what I love more... The amazing arrangement, the awesome playing, or that contra player's outfit at 1:05
All the outfits are too tier

2:39 is when I fell infinitely in love with this arrangement

I'm definitely showing this to my middle school woodwind club. Thank you so much for creating this! Amazing job!
Bravo, Evan!!! Wonderful !!!!!!!! Keep 'em coming!!!!!!

Loving the “Rite of Spring” quote in the middle of that ripping solo.

you are all fabulous musicians!
Pure joy from start to finish 😀
Nice work, Evan, et. al! You're one of the musicians who makes me proud to be from the PNW and this is evidence of why. :D
I love this so much! I keep rewatching and it makes me smile every time. ❤️ . Anymore compilations in the works?
YO! That was amazing!!! I'm a sax player but I love the way bassoon sound! I would love to see them used more in popular and jazz music!
completely glorious, thank you.
Great stuff!
Can't wait to hear a funk band with bassoons in the horn section!
PAUL HANSON HAS ENTERED THE CHAT
This is incredible. Just amazing! I think this is what Stevie had in mind when he coined this groove!
bellissimo
So sad to not see a contraforte here, but man this was insane
Wah'd bassoon? Fantastic

Outstanding! Love it!
Wonderful!!
Love to ya!
Génial!
the Bass Oon makes an appearance.
Wonderful music played so well that it makes me ask, "How did you coordinate it so successfully?"
Like sound

I mean, you improvise with what you know lol It would be crazy if they didn't!
Amazing! I miss playing so much! Anyone have an extra lying around? ;)
Also, Rite of Spring quote @2:39??
Bolero I think. I thought it was Rite at first but after listening a couple of more times got it.
Ah good spot! I think Bolero followed by Rite!
2:37 Bolero and 2:39 Rite?
Yep, I listened again and he is right@@MyoosikMann
you!

🤯🤯🤯🤯👏👏👏👏👏
Is there sheet music for this?
Oh, come on, do it in B where it belongs!!
B's not a great key for Bassoons, I doubt it would sound as good in B
Fair point, but too tempting to use the bassoon/contra Low Bb, the most glorious note!
@@clarabatty8696 I'm here to tell you it *really* ain't a good key for slide trombones, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do

Hey there, sorry I'm not fast with responses! Audio mixed in Reaper, videos compiled in DaVinci Resolve.
As a clarinettist, well, not bad......

those lower notes sound like a subwoofer
