@@BruceCarbonLakeriver Do it. It will either be the best or worst decision you will have ever made 😂 (i am a bassoonist and i love it with all my heart)
This piece gives me hope. Two reasons: Jazz bassoon I am so unconfident in the upper register of bassoon. These musicians give me the hope that one day I too can have a fantastic sounding upper register.
With time and practice im sure you will get there. The Bassoon is a truly wonderful instrument with so many different personalities and colours that can be created. NEVER GIVE IT UP!!
That's mainly because bassoon is easily covered up by most other instruments in jazz ensembles and not many people play bassoon and are interested in playing jazz
The late Woody Herman had a brilliant multi-reed player by the name of Frank Tiberi. He doubled on bassoon occasionally. Enjoy: ruclips.net/video/xW9woTx-LSo/видео.html
I learned bassoon coming up through concert band. We all definitely learned how to swing. When I started playing in a local orchestra, I was shocked that none of the string players knew what "swing" meant. They certainly didn't know how to read swing music. But the worst of all was that the cellos COULD NOT play off beats! That cost me the bassoon soli section in Academic Festival once. The conductor had to put in a cut to get the celli past their off beats, but that cut our soli out as well. 😡
As a bass clarinet player, I appreciate music that premiers the low woodwinds. Y'all did a marvelous performance featuring great sound, balance, and contrast both in music and dynamics (and also featuring the beautiful bassoon).
Hats off to you gentlemen! As a bassoonist myself I can appreciate how difficult this is to achieve! I only wish I had seen this video sooner so that I would have known earlier that growling is possible on a bassoon. It's a shame, my bassoon was on loan from a music service so now I can never try. Would love to pick up my bassoon again and give this a bash! Great playing guys!
Я всегда думал как же дети попадают в муз школе в класс фагота. Возможно это их второй инструмент. Фагот более чем необычен, но вот эти 👆 четверо увлечённых людей по-настоящему делают свой инструмент достойным внимания. Браво!
JoJoTheMoBro WithAfro growling is done with the throat/vocal chords/diaphragm flutter tonguing is done with the tongue. Growling is mainly a difference is the sound quality giving it a vibrating feel as you are humming into your instrument generally. Flutter tonguing is similar but entirely different and generally a classical technique. It is much more metered than a growl would feel.
wow phenomenonal. I wish I found people who play Bassoon at my school. I'm the only one. would love to play this. this is one of my favorite song. always play it on the tenor sax
It is beyond me how your quartet can take a masterpiece and make it better...You guys are pure gold. The intro is priceless.Carry on gentlemen. Please!!!
How versatile is this song..Can be played in any instrument and sounds quite great..These guys are just fantastic..and a new twist to this awesome tune...
I wish i could do that on my bassoon I have only been playing for a month...I sound horrific lol. they sound amazing, like "hey Kaitlyn add this to your songbook." XD thank you Alexandre
I played bassoon in jr. High and high school, didn't realize you could get that raspy brass tone out of it. You guys have inspired me to drop my guitar for a bit and go rent one!
I played the bassoon long ago and can appreciate this is some very, very clean playing. Fun fact: The bassoon is the only standard instrument in the orchestra that uses all ten fingers (not counting things like the harp or piano or celeste.)
That was wonderful! This is the first time that I heard jazz bassoon. Take Five is my all time favorite. I am a former alto sax player, Paul Desmond is my musical hero. Very artistic.T
Founded in 2011, the Camaleon Bassoons is composed of members of the bassoon section of OSESP (São Paulo Symphony Orchestra): Alexandre Silvério, Francisco Formiga, José Arion Linarez, and Romeu Rabelo, and Mariana Bergsten, which is a member of the OSUSP (University of São Paulo Symphony Orchestra). Since its inception, the Camaleon Bassoons aims to spread the sound of the bassoon, seeking a sound marked by a repertoire innovative and creative. His repertoire includes original works for this formation, ranging from the baroque to contemporary composers, as well as innovative arrangements and transcriptions.
I have always wanted to play a bassoon ,and that was AWESOME 😎. I play trumpet but who cares about what I play. Y’all keep doing what y’all do and I will keep listening
Demais este grupo, vi no festival de campos do jordão no dia 19/07, uma maravilha de se ver, ótimos músicos, a platéia se manteve quieta durante os atos, foi uma apresentação para comover até os leigos em música.
Pure magic! I love the original take 5 so much , but you have transformed it into a piece of heaven!
Thank you!!
...I really should think about playing bassoon.... *__*

They did do it justice.
Bassoon sounds so AGGRESSIVE when it growls, well done!!
Thank you!!
I wish there were more bassoons in jazz
I wish there were more bassoons everywhere.
Would love to hear it on bagpipes. It might just be I’m a little high and a bagpiper. 😂
I play the bassoon and I agree
it’s an incredible instrument and it fits perfectly
It has the timber but not thr volume, unfortunately. Same with the French horn.

dude the upper register is a fucking pain I wish you (and myself) the best of luck
upper registeer is a struggle.
2:03 HE GROWLED. ON A BASSOON. WTF.
I thought that was reserved for single-reeds!!!
It's doable, although definitely a lot harder on a double reed than a single reed.
@Lovisa Hermansen MLGY It's the same as saxophone, clarinet, or flute.
I guess he used a bit of flutter tongue?
I'm surprised more jazz ensembles don't use bassoon.
That's mainly because bassoon is easily covered up by most other instruments in jazz ensembles and not many people play bassoon and are interested in playing jazz
Michael Rabinowitz plays in Mingus Orchestra. Such a bassoon uses amplifier.
@@collinpetry1161 well i like both :))
IKR!? It's such a great sounding instrument!

making the switch to bassoon after 10 years of saxophone since middle school. this is refreshing.
日本語にて失礼します。
Take five はサックスが合うイメージしかなかったけど、バソン四重奏もカッコいいと思いました。
ダブルリードの艶やかな音色にマッチして素敵だな、と思いました。
This is the kind of bassoon playing I want to hear. Talk about some mean double reeding. Bravo!
Thank you!!
Hej kk
Astonishing! Who ever thought that a bassoon could swing...and all 4 do! Blue notes too. Terrific arrangement. Brubeck would love it! Marvelous!
Thank you very much!!!

That growl sound like a baritone saxophone!!! It's so cool
As an oboe player(wanted to pick bassoon) whose mom played bassoon in high school I appreciate this on a spiritual level
😁🙏

I didn't know you could get those sounds out of a bassoon. Love the arrangement!
+Patty Duffy Thank you very much!
Orgulho de ver brasileiro tocando musica boa!
Best "Take 5" cover. And who'd have thunk it'd be coming from a bassoon quartet? New respect for you and your instruments.
+Kevin Gray Thank you very much, Kevin!
amazing ! I am a current bassoonist and I only hope to sound as good as you guys one day
Thank you Elvia!!
Making bassoons cool again for the very first time!
Thank you!!
Didn't know you could do a pleasant growl on a bassoon!
The instrument itself has a decent growly sound initially
Tempdoom Well its something wind players do sometimes in jazz called flutter tonguing where you roll the syllable da and it creates that noise.

These saxophones look really funny.
There not saxophones, there bassoons
Phoenixspin I think their trumpets have autism
Phoenixspin aren't those trombones made out of sugar cane?
Nope, trombones are made from broccoli, the flutes are sugar cane.
