- So, I am back to Vlogging today! Setting up my classroom is one of my favorite activities of the year! It builds so much excitement and anticipation for the upcoming school year. I cannot wait for my students to see the classroom and begin to explore ELA!
I do a bit more chatting than usual (REALLY?!?!) but many of you asked for more insight into the thought setup process, so I hope you find this helpful! Let me know what direction you would like to see the Vlogs go!

I homeschool my kiddos, but I LOVE watching your videos! I get so many great ideas from you! I just wanted to let you know that homeschoolers, not only teachers, are getting great ideas from you!
Aww, Thank you so much! I have actually wondered a number of times if Homeschoolers were able to implement tips or even interested in the day to day life of public teachers. Thank you so much for sharing! I would love to hear what other homeschoolers think and what twists could be done to help it apply to more!
I love the flags in front of the windows! I think that the felt house flags would look really cool hanging towards the back of the room like you described :)

I'm so glad you are doing 4th grade this year because I need tips as a 4th grade teacher myself! In particular I really need data binder ideas. Every year I try to get them done but I'm never pleased at how they come out. Can't wait to see your videos through out the school year!

You've inspired me to hang some flags and banners in my room! I've been so focused on planning my curriculum that I had planned on using most of what I had last year. But, because I teach multi age and have the same kids for three years, I think I need to mix it up!

You are such an inspiration to me I remember telling you this previously.....sometimes with all that's going on in my life I feel like giving up on my dream especially when I struggle with Math 😑....but you and other teacher give me the strength to push myself to ensure that I achieve my dreams...thank you so much you have no idea how helpful you are to future Educators

Omg if you do this theme again what you could do is use your sorting hat and like put the houses in it and to do the seating arrangement by having them draw a paper outta the hat and have the flags over certain parts of your room that would be so cute

I have had those black stools for years and they have lasted. Sometimes the screws do get a little lose. They save space and stack well. Your room looks great.

Our first day of school is on the 29th (My Birthday) We can come in as soon as the floors get waxed. This year our rooms were ready at the end of July :)
I like the banners a lot! They look great! Your classroom is looking so nice! I wish u were close by to help me! I am going to second grade from Jr. High! I have been reading Daily Five and Cafe menu which has been keeping me busy! I will start setting up next week and then school starts the following week. Needless to say say I'm frazzled!

I really love watching your videos and always look forward to watching them! Sorry if this has been asked before but I was wondering if you would ever be able to make a video on your experience becoming a teacher? Like, what your college experience and student teaching experience was like? Maybe even offer some advice for people looking into teaching? :)
Oh my, yes this has been asked for quite a bit and I would love to do it, but I always end up filming something else or working bits and pieces in to other videos. (I answered some in both of my Q&A videos and some of it was covered in my Teach.com interview.) I will eventually get around to it, I just need to make the time. So that's kind of an answer....sorry.
They have really cute little Harry Potter figurines and such at Barnes and noble right now, FYI!
I bought the same stools last summer. Mine lasted through a year of 2nd grade and just needed to have the screws and bolts tightened again.

Thank you so much! My teacher partner has her own room across the hall and we will split the 48 students each rotation (Twice a day) I am not, nor do I have a TA...I keep hearing about them but I've never had one :)

They have colored burlapish material at dollar tree.
Maybe try and zip tie the stools. That's what I've seen teachers do once the break but maybe doing it before will prevent them from breaking.
Amazon has a Harry Potter door design that looks like it's a staircase...saw t on Tina Bietler's channel. I thought you were wondering what to do with the door...check it out - I think it would look very cool in your room!

where did you get those gorgeous chairs in the library area?
I got those from Vera Bradley before I became a teacher. They were custom made to be part of the show floor and I bought them when they rotated inventory! I love them!
Does your school have a laminator? or do you just like the thickness of yours? I know our school one is very thin. Lover your videos! People TRULY don't understand how much time money teachers spend on their classrooms.

I have a Scotch, which I do like. Then again, I've liked most of mine in the past. The only one I ever had a problem with was the AmazonBasics version.

Yes, I use a Silhouette for some of my projects.

Hi I love watching your videos. I'm just wondering do you, or other teachers on RUclips, ever feel resentful of the money you have to spend on setting up your classroom and throughout the year? I'm forever feeling guilty that I'm spending too much/too little on my classroom. Anyone else feel the same? You obviously have a supportive husband which is great :). Thanks xx

I think it would really depend on my school situation. If I was in a state with low pay and provided little to no resources, I can see feeling a bit resentful. BUT... [climbing on soapbox] ...Honestly it is all about our 'Choice's (Yes that is my word this year, but it answers this perfectly). I chose to be a teacher and I knew full well it would never make me financially rich. I also knew that many schools are underfunded, this is nothing new. I can't act surprised now when I don't have the funds.
I was a teacher for 3 years as a single mother. I did not have a Library full of books, I did not have fancy shelving, I did not have flexible seating... I did not have a lot of things I wanted in my classroom. It also did not stop me from working long hours and setting aside a budget to begin to build my classroom over time and doing my best to inspire every last kiddo!
We look at as giving back to our community, whether it is a Harry Potter classroom or providing snacks/supplies to students who may not be able to afford them.
Yes, I do have an incredibly supportive husband :) He says that my passion is infectious and that he doesn't really have a 'choice'. To be honest, every year he wants to give back as much as I do.... which is why I married him. He knows what I love and my passion for teaching and giving back.
I tell him that I really don't like his 'choice' of words :P .... this is going to be a long year!
