    I've just discovered your channel and am so glad I did. Your classroom is amazing! You are so creative. I used that same stone wall paper a few years ago when I had a medieval theme in my classroom. I used it to make a castle wall with turrets. Something else I've done is a stage. Several years ago I purchased red fabric and made drama curtains that hung from floor to ceiling in my classroom. (Two side panels and a valance) You could do this around your white board (or the center of it). The curtains didn't operate, but they definitely made a statement! Anytime we needed a stage, we moved the desks away from that area and used the floor as a stage. We even used painters tape or duck tape to mark off a stage on the floor for our more serious productions. The kids loved it. An added bonus is that it looks great in pics! Hope this helps. I'm looking forward to seeing your finished room. Have a fantastic year!

    I'm so jealous! Our principal is a minimalist, and we're very limited as to what we can/cannot do with decor. I would give ANYTHING do go all out with an HP classroom. I even have an idea in my head dividing the walls by houses. All I can get away with is a character trait wall which we use to sort characters into the four houses with a picture, trait, and definition. Looks great!

    What a beautiful classroom. You were definitely creating an inviting learning environment. Setting up a classroom is so much work. I enjoyed watching your video because it showed the reality of what happens behind the scenes. Yes, setting up a classroom sometimes becomes a family project. It involves days and days of work, clean-up, and beautiful surprises. You have inspired me to change my bulletin boarders to something new and unexpected.

    In my first teaching contract, I used black plastic rectangular table clothes ($1 at Walmart). They lasted the whole year without any rips or tears. Fabric is great if you know you are staying in the same room and will want to reuse the same colours and get the colour you want for cheap (again tablecloths or flat sheets). I've also known teachers who paint their bulletin boards. That looks great, but apparently can take 2-3 coats depending on the quality and colour of the paint. Also, built up layers of paint can make it hard to get staples and tacks to stick in the board.

    You could dye the burlap navy blue for that last bulliten board. Then it wouldnt blend in and it will match with everything else. :)

I also hope to squeeze in an ELL certification & special education endorsement. What you'll be teaching this year is my dream. But with the littles. I love your enthusiasm! Your room is really coming along. :) I'm not a fan on the book pages as a border. I realize it is a cool idea, but it doesn't show respect for books, (my opinion) , I think the rest of the borders look awesome. You're very creative. You are an inspiring teacher. Thank you for sharing. :) I think the idea of the "brick" around the big blue board may look a little bit better, even a "half-brick." I'm sure you will make it beautiful! Your future students are blessed to have you as their teacher. Have a great year.

    Hi Again! Thank you for responding to me... I've been busy setting up my classroom too. I had to move from one school to another one that IS AWESOME and I'm so lucky to get into this school. SO, I've been watching your videos, taking notes, GETTING INSPIRED, and laughing at how cute you are and how similar we are. I TOO, like to make lists, and after accomplishing something, add it to my list just to cross it off! HA! I am wanting to order your planner, but can I get the cover in my name. I would think so, but I didn't see how to edit that. Let me know... or do I need to go print it? I don't have the laminator or binding machine, so I need to either order your book or the Erin Caldrin (sp?) one... I just want to be super organized this year. I'm going from 3rd grade to 1st grade this year... I enjoyed my 3rd graders, but looking forward to the cute little kids this year. YAY! Did you ever teach 1st?

    • @BridgingLiteracy
      @BridgingLiteracy  8 лет назад +1

      With my planner you can edit to cover with your name in either PowerPoint or Keyword. It is fairly simple. This year I only offer the digital download that you can have printed at Staples or a similar store. Many viewers have done this and Staples will laminate the cover and bind the book for you. Printing on 32# paper was about $22, I would think laminating and binding would be a few dollars more. Thank you so much for the support! I have only taught kindergarten to this point, this will be my first year in 4th grade!!! Yayy!!

      Yes! Tallis reminded me of this just yesterday, but thank you so much for the tip and comment! It is truly a perfect quote for my room!

    Have you considered using the leftover navy fabric to border your writing area bulletin board (as a contrast and pull in the colors all around the room), instead of the burlap again?

    Once school starts will you do a day in the life of a teacher?

      I will probably wait a few months...we will see. I would like to see how everything goes first. To be honest, I have no idea how it will go yet! :)

    Well done! Yet again! I notice the seating arrangement is very casual. Which I like. How do you assign seats daily? Is it open? Choice by students?

    • @BridgingLiteracy
      @BridgingLiteracy  8 лет назад

      Yes! They have the 'Choice' as to were they sit each day. No assigned seating unless they lose the privilege.

      +Jenna Whitley 😂 I was a hot and nasty mess this day! My necklace is from Kendra Scott and the bins are from ikea. They are meant to hang on the polls??? 😬 but I didn't want to deal with all that.

    Your room looks amazing! Would you please explain how to use the sheets on the bulletin boards? Do you hang them with heavy duty staples or hot glue? Do you cut them with regular scissors or a different cutting tool? How do you switch them out for different holiday themes? When you hang things on them (such as student work) do you use push pins or staples? Thanks in advance for any additional insight you share! 😊

    • @BridgingLiteracy
      @BridgingLiteracy  8 лет назад +1

      Yes I use used 5/16 staples. You can see my son coloring them in at the beginning of the video. I used a comination of both scissors and box cutters depending on the cut. Its unlikely that I will switch them out during the year, I will just decorate them. The front wall used about $20 in sheets...every penny counts. Yes, I will use standard push pins on the fabric. It should easily last all year! Thanks for watching!

      Thank you! I totally saw your son coloring the staples but I couldn't process it because my old classroom walls were part cinder block/concrete and part tile. Hopefully, my new classroom will have drywall. I love the idea of not switching the fabric because it's difficult switching out bulletin board paper alone each season. Take care! :-)
