Just picked up the same bike and colour myself. Love it so far, and the blue is awesome. I took it out today in wet and grimey conditions, washed it as soon as I got home! I'm looking forward to some trips - going to join some local groups as I don't have any mates that bike... yet!
Craig Mason good choice. If you are in the U.K then joining your local IAM club is a good idea. Learn new skills and meet like minded people. Enjoy the bike.
Count Miffed, very pleased to hear that all ended up on the positive side and that you're in good shape. Have been enjoying your channel. I just ordered the same bike/colour here in Toronto, Canada and the dealership doesn't know if the luggage is available in the Ocean matte blue colour...they hinted the luggage may only be available in red or grey...were you given any indication of luggage colour availability when you chose between luggage and exhaust?
Good to hear you're OK. I have the SW-Motech engine sliders on mine as they more of a sculpted shape and barely noticeable, and if the worst was to happen I'm hoping they won't "catch" on the road like the R&G bungs do.That's a nice colour and seat on yours. By the way how are you finding the bar vibes on the 2017? BMW were supposed to have fixed it for the new model.
Kryten L thanks. Hard to say on the vibes, I am gonna reserve judgement until the bike has been run in. My first thoughts though are I will probably still want to by some weighted bar ends.
Awesome bike and color ! Congrats ! Sometimes I think that the way your bike falls in a crash can be a big determining factor. I rode into the back of someone that jammed on brakes while I was checking my blindspot. Hit them straight on at about 40mph. Other than the footpegs that were bent, the bike was fine. Car had like 2 grand damage 😂 I ended up in a neck brace.
Looks good in the blue! I have the same bike coming shortly in Canada but mine will be the low version and red because the bags are not available in the blue and that would really bother me. Glad it all worked out for you!
So you now need to do a video where you refer to the bike in some consistent manner whilst wondering what to call it, and I then need to comment that you seem to have already given it a name : )
Good on you for talking about this, especially when you know it was your fault. They don't build bikes to crash these days it seems, but good choice of colour.
Count Miffed, when comparing the handlebar vibration of your 2016 S1000XR with the new 2017 model (by the way, beautiful colour you got!), what did you find? BMW claims that the vibration disappeared from the new model... Can you report on this very important trait of this bike?
Rui Carvalho I have just finished running the bike in so I am gonna do a full review soon and will cover off this topic. However I will say it's improved over the 2016 model but not completely removed. It wouldn't stop me from getting this bike, it's really not that bad
Roger Morello hi Roger, there is definitely an improvement. To be honest the vibes on the 2016 model were massively reduced by an addition of weighted bar ends. Once I have run in the 2017 model I will review and give my thoughts on the vibes.
love the colour not quite so sure about the disabled toilet hand rails though, lol , looking to get one of these or the super duke gt for some touring 😀 safe riding
Richard Dunn hi Richard, thanks for the comment. It's hard to say at the moment as I haven't had much chance to get out on the bike. My initial thought is that it's definitely improved but there are still some vibes. On my 2016 XR I added some weighted bar ends which fixed the issue. I will be uploading a review of the new XR in the coming weeks, so will discuss the vibes in more detail then. Hope this helps answer your question.
That'll be a big help, thanks. I've owned lots of Adv. bikes and an S1000RR. I've ridden two different examples of the S-XR and loved the handling, power and F1 sounding engine. The only two negatives have been missing a little character compared with V, L and opposed twins, and the midrange vibes at cruising speeds. I think a lot of potential buyers want to know if they're cured once your bike has been run in, to help them decide whether to buy or not - so thanks for this!
Glad it has all worked out well. Some might say it was a happy accident. The blue looks good! I am looking forward to the next Smokey-Miffed whatever this year :) I have to say, those crash bars look like the sort of thing you see in a disabled toilet lol.
Phil480 omg Phil it's comments like that, that won't get you a return visit to the SmokieMiffed rides lol. You need to do another Chip shop run this year too bud.
Bought my XR today!! Can't wait to ride it!! Your videos convinced me to move on from the GS... Thank you!! Can you please tell me what brand are your crash bars? I like them!
Wolfpack Moto Channel congrats I hope you enjoy it. These are my bars www.bmw-motorrad-bohling.com/uk/bmw-engine-guard-set-s100xr-k49.html?LGWCODE=97297;86700;4971&gclid=Cj0KCQjwktHLBRDsARIsAFBSb6z9xOVY8RZ8qhFS-FciqlPmvXQBhLFW0x7ZSTy5WlcIkeBxm6zdTn0aAsnCEALw_wcB
I'm having a blast!! Love my XR!! Its a more dynamic, agile and fun ride than my previous bike (GS). So much fun I can't stop smiling while riding!! DO IT!!
i won a titanium elbow in similar weather, because somebody decided to join a dual carriageway from a standstill, whilst i was lookin for oncomming traffic. but enough about my crash, did you pass your mock advanced rider test?
76CzarekP sounds painful. Not passed yet, I was doing my mock test when the crash happened. Now I am back on the bike I will take the mock test again once the weather gets better.
Take the money? Ha! That bike is the bomb! Love the colour, to much grey in the world. By the way I'd paint the luggage blue at a shop. Those bars a beefy and look suitable. Who are they made by?
Crashing on your advanced rider test! bet that didn't look great lol Glad you didn't did hurt though, what bike did you crash? like the new paint job on the XR
I did have a look at the new one, but i think for me its not worth the change for the minor upgrades. I sorted out the vibs with heavier bar ends on mine, and i bet the 5bhp more isn't noticeable. Do you notice the extra 10kg in weight?
Ralf's Dad thanks. I brought the seat for my old XR so I already had it. The exhaust came as part of the Sport SE package, you can choice between the Exhaust or luggage. I would recommend the seat as it's more comfortable and looks better then the stock one.
Sorry dude but I cant understand what it is you said you had on your bike that bent the frame. Whats the name of what you are saying you had on, brand?
Gotallofthem1 hi, no problem. It was the R&G Aero Crash Protectors, to be fair it's a heavy bike and the protectors bent under the weight which in part bent the frame. On the new bike I have crash bars, much better. Hope that helps.
Count Miffed Pretty solid ones, I have had a 700cc CTX by honda since 2014. I have a short list of bikes, The KTM1290 - FJR1300 - Maybe a Kawa Concourse. I don't just commute, I live on the bike. It's my only means of getting around.
Hi everybody can you please give me some suggestions on how to verify with videotape and a go pro hero 4 silver my 1299S when it intermittently and randomly and unexpectedly stalls out? Every time i take it to the dealer they said they can't duplicate the problem and Ducati of North America video taped my bike with no problems. But my 1299s still stalls out on me in congested stop in go traffic all the time and when I feather the clutch and drive between 0 to 15 mph on the street or freeway or on the street. However I'm an amateur and I just purchased a hero 4 go pro silver camera do you have suggestions on how to mount it to the 1299S gas tank ? I'm concerned with losing the camera what type a suction mount the go pro hero 4 camera? What I should use and what can I use in case the suction loses its grip to keep the camera from damaging the motorcycle and the camera in case it falls thanks advance for everything. The dealer said prove the 1299s is stalling out with video verification because they claim everything is checking out A ok on the computer test sheet with Ducati engineers and Ducati video tape that they won't show me What would you do? Thanks in advance for everything.
Wild One lol, that would explain a lot. To be honest I think I was just unlucky. There is another XR vlogger who had a similar accident, at a higher speed, he had crash bars and the bike was fine.
Wild One sorry I hit remove instead of reply to your message. So in answer to your question "did I chop the throttle", I didn't. The only thing I can think of, is I accelerated hard out of the right hand bend, coming up to the left hand bend I breaker hard and then released the breaks and immediately started the turn. I don't think I let the bike settle after the breaking.
Excellent choice, good to hear you came away from an accident unscathed.
fish and banana thanks mate. Happy New Year to you.
Michael Cronin in Michael, I didn't ask but as far as I am aware the luggage doesn't come in the blue.
Good to hear you're OK. Sounds like you were unlucky and on your advanced assessment too 😱. Glad it all worked out and you're back on the road, those crash bars look fine 👍🏻
thumbs up for the intro alone!!
ridewithme cheers mate, bloody creepers do my head in.
Awesome bike and color ! Congrats ! Sometimes I think that the way your bike falls in a crash can be a big determining factor. Car had like 2 grand damage 😂 I ended up in a neck brace.
Greg Lessing thanks for the comment Greg. Interesting how a much faster impact can have little damage, glad you made it out the other end ok bud.
Looks good in the blue! I have the same bike coming shortly in Canada but mine will be the low version and red because the bags are not available in the blue and that would really bother me. Glad it all worked out for you!
philip cobb cheers Phil. I agree the bags thing is a real pain.
Glad you're okay, and I'm lovin' the colour of your new XR!
Shmoo cheers Shmoo, I am also loving the colour 😀
Beautiful bike. Drop dead gorgeous colour. Looking forward to more vids.
Stizzy Grayson thanks Stizzy.
Glad to see you back, and honestly dude the bars look fine
Spectre223 cheers Spec.
Ouch. Good to hear that you survived unharmed, not so good to hear about The Beast getting written off.
external influences happy new year bud. On the bright side we get to name a new bike 😀
So you now need to do a video where you refer to the bike in some consistent manner whilst wondering what to call it, and I then need to comment that you seem to have already given it a name : )
external influences I will get on it 😀
Good on you for talking about this, especially when you know it was your fault. They don't build bikes to crash these days it seems, but good choice of colour.
OldManTony thanks for the comment Tony. I am enjoying the new Ocean Blue colour.
Count Miffed, when comparing the handlebar vibration of your 2016 S1000XR with the new 2017 model (by the way, beautiful colour you got!), what did you find? BMW claims that the vibration disappeared from the new model... Can you report on this very important trait of this bike?

Hey Count, any feedback on the vibration issues with the handlebars? Thanks.
Roger Morello hi Roger, there is definitely an improvement. To be honest the vibes on the 2016 model were massively reduced by an addition of weighted bar ends. Once I have run in the 2017 model I will review and give my thoughts on the vibes.
Wow that was quick lol. Thanks mate, will follow.
Roger Morello no problem thanks for watching.
Thanks, Count Miffed. I can't imagine why they'd make a blue bike with grey or red bags though? Will let you know if I hear otherwise.
Michael Cronin True but they didn't make matching bags for the white version, fingers crossed they do for the blue.
Nice bike, a good start to 2017
Fire Blade890 thanks.
love the colour not quite so sure about the disabled toilet hand rails though, lol , looking to get one of these or the super duke gt for some touring 😀 safe riding
Brett Goodwin lol, yeah they are a bit on the hand rail side, they actually look ok in the flesh.
CM, I understand that on the 2017 bike BMW has apparently cured the midrange vibes felt through the bars. Is that your experience too?
Richard Dunn hi Richard, thanks for the comment. It's hard to say at the moment as I haven't had much chance to get out on the bike. My initial thought is that it's definitely improved but there are still some vibes. On my 2016 XR I added some weighted bar ends which fixed the issue. Richard Dunn once it's run in I will review and let you guys know.

Haha!
Yes, I will be planning another chippy run or two for this year!
How’s the S1000XR going mate?
Bought my XR today!! Can't wait to ride it!!

Moto Wolfpack How do you like it so far? I am thinking about getting one too. I currently have the S1000R.
Thank you

Those bars a beefy and look suitable. Who are they made by?
Lorne Godfrey hi Loren, thanks for the comment. I don't know who the bars are made by, I will pop into BMW on the weekend and find out for you.
Crashing on your advanced rider test! bet that didn't look great lol
Glad you didn't did hurt though, what bike did you crash? like the new paint job on the XR
never mind, helps if you watch till the end before commenting lol
TheLikeableRider yeah it was a bit on the embarrassing side :). I crashed my 2016 RedXr
How does the new one feel compared to the 2016 model
TheLikeableRider initial thought is it doesn't feel much different, maybe a little less vibey but I won't really know until I have run it in.
I did have a look at the new one, but i think for me its not worth the change for the minor upgrades. I sorted out the vibs with heavier bar ends on mine, and i bet the 5bhp more isn't noticeable. Do you notice the extra 10kg in weight?
You doin the chip shop ride Phil480 is organising? :-)
Hippo-Drones not sure yet. I want too but i am on-call for work that weekend
Glad you are in one piece. You beat me by a couple of weeks on the bike!
Did you upgrade seat and Akrapovic?
Ralf's Dad thanks. I brought the seat for my old XR so I already had it. The exhaust came as part of the Sport SE package, you can choice between the Exhaust or luggage. I would recommend the seat as it's more comfortable and looks better then the stock one.

Yes thanks for the clarification, and I love the color of the bike you got now.
1:18 my thoughts every time I see drivers apporaching the intersections "WTF.. STOP!!"
E-Nonymouse yep, there is always that feeling "are they going to stop".
Beauty of a bike, enjoy it. I am wanting a new bike but that's a few years from now.
E-Nonymouse thanks. Any ideas on what bike you are looking for ?
Count Miffed Pretty solid ones, I have had a 700cc CTX by honda since 2014. I have a short list of bikes, The KTM1290 - FJR1300 - Maybe a Kawa Concourse. I don't just commute, I live on the bike. It's my only means of getting around.
I'd probably have a dual sport in the garage as a backup if I had the cash.

you could use a teather to ensure if the camera drops it doesnt fall off the bike. check this vid for ideas ruclips.net/video/fZW3K1IssQs/видео.html
Fucking drivers, Lol !
Darrell Amen to that.
so the frame of this bike is made of cake like soft aluminum???
Wild One lol, that would explain a lot. To be honest I think I was just unlucky. There is another XR vlogger who had a similar accident, at a higher speed, he had crash bars and the bike was fine.
regarding accident, are you sure you didn't touch front brake while in the bend?
Wild One yeah 100% sure.
Wild One sorry I hit remove instead of reply to your message. So in answer to your question "did I chop the throttle", I didn't.
