    I received my Omen this week and it is everything I wanted it to be. I went with max memory, max video memory and max SSD. I'm not a gamer. I'm a software developer and I'm fairly demanding. This replaces my four year old Dell XPS. Visual Studio is a demanding development environment and the Omen chewed through every aspect of it. Incredibly quick loads and builds on very big projects. I love the form factor and my colleagues were doing double takes when they passed my cubicle. "What is that?" was the most popular question. I don't like the USB port location as I frequently plug and unplug devices depending on what I'm working on. That's my single complaint.

      ***** I have fixed workstations at home and in the office, so I was looking for that laptop for those times when I was working away from my desk. A few things made this a better choice. Form factor, i.e., sexiness. Weight. SSD. Price when fully loaded. Consumer support package. If my employer were supplying a transportable, they'd probably opt for the ZBook. My consumer side chose the Omen, which, by the way, I'm still so pleased with!

    Really love the design of both of these machines, but the battery life puts me off especially at the price point and with Broadwell being only right around the corner. I'm excited to see what the Broadwell versions of these gaming laptops will achieve before spunkin away +£1500!

    As far as screens go. For work purposes (in other words, times when your environment will be lit up and bright), I'd recommend a matte screen. For times when playing games, or watching videos (times when you would turn off the bright lights or have a dimly lit environment) I'd go with a glossy screen.
    Overall, I like the glossy screens, the colors seem to pop a bit more, but the matte is great for work purposes.

    I have the MSI GS60 Ghost pro with the 3K resolution and GTX970M. The only thing i think she didnt get right was the battery life while gaming. From a full charge the msi gets about an hour running on the dedicated graphics card. Pretty similar to most gaming laptops but if your gaming you'll likely be close to a power outlet anyways. I enjoy how small the MSI ghost is because it functions perfectly as a daily use laptop as it can fit in your backpack and runs high end games over wifi flawlessly which is a very nice feature. Perfect balance between mobility and power in my opinion.

    Love the MSI (needs longer lasting battery though), for everyday use for the HP would probably drive me crazy with ports located so closely + that glossy screen

      I can see and agree with that. I think red is a much more aggressive color than green psychologically, which is why Razer's crazy green snakes seem more soft

      That's almost as bad as buying a console.

    • @ireminmon
      @ireminmon 10 лет назад

      You can always run games on smaller resolution (1600x900 on 3K, FHD on 4K), while not deforming the pixels and your framerates won't suffer. But when you close your games, higher native resolution will allow for better productivity on limited display surfaces and better picture overall.

    • @HallucinogenX

      Ire Min Mon Reducing the resolution of a game below the native resolution will always lead to blurriness.Playing at 1080p on a 4k monitor will result in the game being played in a small box surrounded by black borders and if you force full screen by decreasing your desktop resolution,then the game will be blurry and look pretty terrible.

    Picked up an open box omen for 1100. So far like it much better then ghost pro. :)
    The biggest thing for me was having a usable trackpad. Using the laptop on my on lap was very important to me. The ghost was not lap friendly, as it gets much hotter and like I said the track pad was useless even for basic functions. I would have to disable it to type on the keyboard because it would register my palms.
    Overall Omen functions as a laptop and a gaming rig. love it!

    • @trdtdtd
      @trdtdtd 10 лет назад

      gs60 got bad trackpad (and not too good battery life) thats about it LOL Dont even know why u say its much better LOL Gs60 is clearly much superior in lots of aspects than omen. Omen got good keyboard but gs60 got much better one.

    • @prepre73
      @prepre73 10 лет назад +4

      trdtdtd thats a personal preference whats good for you is not good for everyone and clearly he has a different preference. Do not say that his "opinion" is wrong just because it does not line up with your own

    • @trdtdtd
      @trdtdtd 10 лет назад

      prepre73 euh its not even my opinion in every reviews they will say (for ex.) the keyboard is better. Its like keep saying A is much better than A+. GS60 has clearly better performance than omen. Its not my opinion its a fact.

    • @prepre73
      @prepre73 10 лет назад

      Again performance is relative to use case I know my 3 year old GPU still renders video out in vegas faster than new graphics cards due to optimisation.
      You can't say that just because a round peg fits in a square hole its better. Maybe he has only ever used an iPad(other tablets are available) and therefor having a touch screen is more beneficial or someone uses their computer outside a lot because they are lets say a photographer then a matt scree would make that laptop the ideal choice

    • @RottenJeeves
      @RottenJeeves 10 лет назад

      trdtdtd I was really comparing every day usability. Yes clearly the Ghost is the the better performer here. For me the HP is much more of a "lap" top. The ghost will burn your leg off and the track pad is worthless. I also Like the screen better on hp, though the ghost is no slouch.
      The ghost looks nasty nasty nasty because its such a finger print magnet. YES, the hp does attract figure prints as well, but no where near the Ghost.
      The build quality: The HP is clearly well build, feels sturdy and expensive. The ghost is flimsy, especially the screen.
      Lastly MSI vs HP for reliability. HP by a margin. Iv owned 2 msi's and had nothing but problems with them. I work in IT and my company only uses HP. Which while HP is not amazing, we do have 9-10 year old laptops that are still working perfect.

  • @pete5670

    I have the GS60 Ghost Pro 4K with 970m and 6700 Skylake. It's amazingly powerful, insanely thin/light and rus remarkably quiet and cool for such a powerful laptop, even when gaming on high settings. It's just still too large for me to be truly portable, so it mostly sits on my desktop.
    That is why I'm contemplating the switch to the 2016 Razer Blade. I like the design of the Razer far more, and the form factor is nearly perfect for me. I'd be giving up on a lot of storage stage, the option to expand RAM and the SD card slot, though, all of which are bummers for me. Not to mention the price of the Blade, which is still ridiculously high if you want to import it to the Netherlands. I'd be spending 500-600 euro's for basically a facelift and a slight diet from the laptop I have now. That is a lot of money. But still, the want is strong.

    • @iNandoTV
      @iNandoTV 8 лет назад +1

      Why not the gs40? I was in the same boat about the blade. I even had it ordered, but cancelled due to the price. I just couldnt justify it. I am trying to decide between the gs40, gs60 ghost pro and the alienware 15 (since better batter and cooling)

    • @Splackavellie85
      @Splackavellie85 8 лет назад +1

      It depends on what you want. Personally, I'd say go for the GS40. I chose the GS60 because of the 4K screen, which is great for media consumption, but for me personally, the GS60 is too big. I'm going to sell it and get the Razer Blade.

    I had (as everyone who bought that laptop) a problem with a MSI GS60, the wifi and and GPU can't work together, I tried everything I could without losing the warranty, but in the end they were two options :
    -Keeping MSI GPU driver, in that case my GTX960 was less powerfull than the intel GPU, but I had a shitty wifi
    -Installing the Nvidia driver. In that case the GPU kicks asses but wifi doesn't work as soon as you play a game.
    MSI SAV is full of crap :
    They answered to me that the problem was caused by the fact that I had installed Windows seven through a USB3.0 port, which is quite funny because the computer doesn't have a CD reader, and doesn't have any USB2.0 port.
    Anyway, this explaination was ridiculous, everything was working fine but the bloody Wifi killer wireless card.
    When I told them it was ridiculous, they told me that this computer is not made to run Windows 7 but Windows 8.
    Have you ever seen a gamer using Windows 8, the crappiest of all time? I haven't. And this is a gaming laptop.
    In the end the problem is that the computer simply doesn't have enough electrical power to run both GPU and wifi card at the same time (it's even worse if you add bluetooth)
    There is no way MSI is going to solve that, they don't want to and they don't care anyway.
    My computer went straight back to the retailler, with a note saying never to sell these shitty computers again because it is a scam.
    Make no mistake, the problem is the same with all the GS60 with a GPU more powerful than a GTX850, whatever brand is the Wifi card, and there is no solution.
    GS60 : Defective crap, all of them.
    If the HP is not defective choose it, but it is rather unlikely considering how shitty HP's quality is (I worked for them).
    A piece of advice : choose anything else.

    Great video. I would like to see a smackdown between MSI Ghost Pro and the Macbook Pro 15 Inch 2015. I have both and for the money I have to say the MSI is a better buy if you are willing to leave OS X behind and get annoyed with Windows here and there. Right now the only thing going for Apple laptops is their amazing Operating System, but that gap between Windows and OS X might get smaller once Windows 10 comes out. The hardware on current high end PC laptops is a little ahead of Apple. My MSI Ghost pro has the newer Broadwell 5th gen processor, faster video card, faster Ram (upgraded to 1866 from the factory 1600) and 4k screen (great for media, but not for gaming). I wish Apple would have upgraded their processor as well and would have stayed with NVIDIA.

      i ended up buying a 13in Alienware R2. It's great for Inquisition and the Sims. I know it is built for more but I like that it's so fast and and the screen has incredible graphics. I also edit video alot so its great for that too. Expensive yes, but I'd rather have something I know will work perfectly for a long time then go cheaper and no have the quality I want. Thank you all the help guys!

    I'm still not really sure which is better. I've been looking at a bunch of brands and I'm still kind of unsure. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm not a big time gamer but I do plan on getting games off steam (an example is gmod) so I need a laptop what will run well with little sound and heat. I would like a desktop but I'll be going to college so I would need a laptop for classes and on the go. I also plan on doing recording stuff and animation so it needs to handle those too. Thank you! :)

    Looking for a 14 inch light gaming laptop, I use a MacBook Pro retina 2013 and I'm not happy with any gaming that ghost pro is considerable pricier than the Apple MacBook. The y40 from Lenovo has bad reviews and the y50 uses last gen 860m nvidia, there aren't many amd laptops 290x witch I think they would be good for gaming.

    • @erodz1892
      @erodz1892 10 лет назад

      I had a y50 back when they had the removable dvd drive and you could do sli. But of course drivers sucked and there was so much stuttering that it wasn't really good for games so I got rid of it. I don't feel like carrying 20 ponds of laptop I move (my job requires moving and working in different places often) that's why I'm looking for some compact light gaming laptop.

    • @derzulya

      There isn't actually a "proper" 14" gaming machine except Razer Blade, which is in my opinion overpriced. There are just Clevo based barebone options. If u are living in Germany (or Europe), there is a seller called Schenker. You can configure the way you like and they have also 14" option. Most of the gaming laptops are 15" or 17". There is one Thinkpad T440s (also 14") model with dedicated graphic memory, however it's only 730m and should not be considered as a gaming laptop. T450s is announced yesterday and will be available next month. Maybe there will be an option with dedicated graphic.
      Lenovo and Acer (the new Nitro series) have couple of gaming laptops for reasonable price, if you consider 15" later.

    I really dislike that MSI logo- wish it was an optional thing. i dont need the back of my laptop to glow...

    • @Wistbacka
      @Wistbacka 9 лет назад

      Stringer Bell Imho the main problem with the logo is that it looks childish, not pro/serious (which they would like it to be). Even HP has realized to stop with their old round HP-logo and replaced it with a stylish "Hewlet Packard" logo instead on their premium models
      Point is: make something more stylish for MSI aswell. Even the Asus Strix logo is less "in your face". That said: I'd still go for the MSI in this case, because functionality over design (but yeah: f*** that G-logo)

    • @cannonballkid
      @cannonballkid 9 лет назад +3

      Wistbacka
      Barring the obvious needing a laptop in a professional sense its just ugly! I have even gone as far as to contact vendors to see if I could get an MSI laptop w/out the logo. Their response was well we can make it glow in a different colour.
      It seems to me that many of these laptop makers are forever stuck in the 90's when it comes to aesthetics or lack thereof.

    • @Wistbacka
      @Wistbacka 9 лет назад

      Stringer Bell Atleast MSI.
      But then you also got the demographic-issue. Gamer-grade laptops are meant for gamers and in the companies eyes that is 12 year old kids with too much money on their hand (or in their parent's wallets). Thus we have the typical alienware-over the top-looks on gaming laptops. Then you look at business-class models and they will feature stunning brushed aluminum bodies with just as much build quality, but lacking dedicated gpu. So it is not because the makers of laptops can't make good looking laptops, but because they THINK they know what gamers like.
      If I could design this laptop (let's call it MS60 Wistbacka edition):
      - 1080p and 3K (no 4K) display-options
      - Black, Silver (apple-like) or GOLD edition like finish option
      - Engraved MSI Gamer logo (Something like this: mightydeals.s3.amazonaws.com/dealimages/zippy/metal7.jpg but even more discrete)
      - Keep steelseries keyboard, but no RGB (unnecessary cost is unnecessary)
      - Increase battery size
      - make the led indicators on the front even more discrete
      - Have Noctua design the fans. :P
      That said: The GOLD-edition is as close as we can get to a gaming laptop disguised as a business class laptop. If they would only have removed that red logo. Still, it looks better than on the black finish. But the price... 0.o

    • @justinbeamon6624
      @justinbeamon6624 8 лет назад

      +Oliver Gao in terms of gaming laptops most all brands like msi, asus, dell, and others all have removable ram. or at least some of it. all of the ram being soldered is not common especially on gaming notebooks. but yah I usually see half the ram soldered and inaccessible but the other half accessible with the hard drive

    • @olivergao6742

    Gaming laptops are really pointless in my opinion, you can have a desktop PC that's double the power and a windows 8 tablet for way less than the price of one of this.

    • @Macsk8ing
      @Macsk8ing 10 лет назад +1

      Siege Well yeah man but that's the point, you can have a 3DS or something for when you travel, and if I went on vacation I'm pretty sure the last thing I'd like to do is game lol (if it's a good place) but yeah maybe gaming laptops do suit some people, they just don't suit me.

    • @Macsk8ing
      @Macsk8ing 10 лет назад

      ***** They don't because it's not necessary, if you're on vacation why would want to spend your whole day gaming on a laptop when you could be outside watching the waves or snowboarding ? (depending on where you go)

    • @mencred4334
      @mencred4334 10 лет назад

      Macsk8ing in my case, console, tablet, desktop pc or even portable gaming device such as NDS were useles for my school/college programming assignment with both gaming at the spare time and my current job to do both working and gaming at work or even remotely at different places such as clients and spare time at the lounge. or even business trip's spare time where you'd be bored at some time.

    • @wannathrustshigoku-san3550
      @wannathrustshigoku-san3550 10 лет назад

      Macsk8ing in my opinion, laptops better than desktop, because laptop is wired pc and desktop is wireless pc, you can get laptops everywhere, but desktop is too heavy to bring and has a lot stuff to bring, but the only i don't like laptops, is hard to control while gaming and you need mouse for laptops.

    • @Wistbacka
      @Wistbacka 9 лет назад

      Macsk8ing I used to think like you. And I still think they are overpriced. But I still consider one, because I need mobility, and the apartment I'm about to move to is way too small to have a full desktop in. No one (with some sense) will ever say that a gaming laptop is better than a desktop, but if the situation requires it they are the best compromise you can get.
      And about the mobility: When traveling (not for vacation) I do want to spend my time in the train or ship doing something, and I want to game properly (or as proper as possible in such situations)
