Reacting to SPEED (1994) | Movie Reaction - Развлечения
"I don't know how they'd do a sequel. The bomber's dead, Harry's dead. It's just Jack, and his new girlfriend."
Yeah, so about that....
“How did the bus go up?” Is a great question. It’s best to just let it go and enjoy this one.
Mythbusters did do a segment on the jump (and the "everyone got to one side" part as well) and in their test the bus could survive the landing fine, but it wouldn't have the distance. And they presumed a ramp there.
The cinematic enjoyment term is "suspension of disbelief." I generally say "leave your brain at the door, shove some popcorn in your face, enjoy" :P
The only way that might work is if the bus had rear-wheel drive, and they juiced up the speed to make it pop a wheelie. But then the back of the bus wouldn't go up unless you had a ramp. It's best to not think about working out the logistics.
The same way The Blues Mobile did...magic...duh!
@@Compound97 Even though that scene does not reduce my enjoyment at all, I am a little bit annoyed they didn't just put a random ramp there.
"Don't worry I have a plan. I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to SPEED around the city, keeping its SPEED over 50. And if it's SPEED dropped, it would EXPLODE. I think it was called "The bus that couldn't slow down."
-Homer Simpson.
To think that Keanu Reeves went from Bill and Ted. To a surfer at Point Break. To Speed. To the MATRIX. to John Wick? That's an Excellent Adventure!
You're 100% correct.
WHOA.
There were a few in between. They are worth watching too.
"Speed" was touted as Keanu Reeves's big action role but in retrospect, he was a lot more physical all through "Point Break," which was underappreciated in its theatrical run.
I'd say it's a bogus journey...
The "tourist guy" on the bus was also Ferris Bueller's friend Cameron
I never wanted a robot bus before but I do now.
“The bus goes too fast…it explodes….Keanu has to stop it….no, that wouldn’t work”. 😂 Oh but it does
When Dawn mentioned how much she liked Jack staying centered the whole time, it reminded me of my favorite scene (which was not in this reaction).
After Harry’s death and the call ended, Jack lost it. There was real despair when he looks at Anne and says calmly “we are all going to die”. He needed Anne to talk him back. That moment showed us that he was human with limits, which adds to his heroic nature.
This film has a secret back story -- it was ghost written by Joss Whedon, and it was in large part a reaction to the over-the-top action films of the 80s (especially "Commando") which had become too graphically violent, filled with swearing, in which hundreds of people die without remorse or consequence, and everyone breaks the law left and right. In Speed, the police officers are polite (notice how Keanu mostly calls everyone "sir" and "ma'am"), the swearing is minimal and realistic, the police actually obey the law, the police don't shoot everyone they see (the villain is the only person the police kill and it's in self-defense), and with the exception of the villain every death is treated seriously with respect.
I also think of the scene after the bus hits the baby carriage full of recyclable cans.
It takes Anne time to regain her composure, to burn off the adrenaline surge of fear. Of course she'd almost be in tears, after the terror of thinking of what might have been. In most other films, they'd laugh it off immediately as an inconsequential event.
@@charlize1253, your little anti-police statement is so transparent. Action movies were changing overall anyway and exploring new ground. This movie just had a style like any other movie has a style. Keanu Reeves's character fit his personality. There was only one "villain" anyway.
Nobody ever talks about this but its scenes like that, that elevate this action film from most others in the genre.
Nobody is talking about the real police. This is about MOVIE police. Like Jon McLane in Die Hard who killed 12 people while off duty and drove off without any formal inquiry or even writing a report. Or the 2 bumbling FBI agents who died in the same movie and everybody cheered. Or Jodie Foster in The Silence of the Lambs who investigated a serial killer as a "trainee." And if any real cop acted like the movie cops did in "Bad Boys" or "Lethal Weapon," they'd be immediately suspended and investigated. Joss Whedon has said in interviews that, in writing Speed, he thought it would be a break to portray the police as actually competent at their jobs and willing to follow the rules. The fact that you responded in the way that you did shows just how unusual it is when movie police behave like that.
Somebody make this woman a robot bus movie!
PS "Gigantor" was the English-language version of a Japanese cartoon from the '60s about a young boy and his giant robot. Because every young boy wants a giant robot (trust me on this one)
Much better than Astro Boy.
It's probably more accurate to say every boy wants to BE a giant robot.
Like Johnny Sokko. :)
Iron Giant. Just saying. Iron Giant.
29:50 Much, MUCH later (such as in interviews in the late 2010s) both Keanu and Sandra admitted that they had HUGE crushes on each other during and after filming Speed, and if they weren't already dating other people, they would have gotten together. They're still very close friends to this day, because of Speed :)
Oh no, I didn`t know that. They would have made such a great couple.
They are two of my favorite actors :)
@@lechat8533 I think Sandy said it om Ellen DeGeneres,,& Mr Reeves said "we were WORKING"
They were also in the Lake House together - I think that one is great too!!!!!!!
That was referenced in an episode of Muppets Tonight, where Sandra Bullock was the guest star. 😊
Sandra: "Get me Keanu Reeves!"
Clifford (the host): "He's booked."
Sandra: "Too bad he's a good kisser."
In fact, the premise of the whole episode was that a bomber threatened the studio with the statement "If your ratings fall below 50, a bomb's going to go off in your studio."
Mac is the actor who also played Miles Dyson in Terminator 2
Damn, you figured out that the villain was a retired bomb squad cop super fast. Good Instincts.
She came up with looping the CCTV tape straight away too
Very clever Dawn
"Why did she have a pram full of cans?" Usually its homeless people in the US They use supermarket carts, old prams, etc to carry their stuff. Often this includes collected cans, they sell for recycling
The sad part about this film is, in recent interviews Sandra said that she really fancied Keanu but didn't think he felt the same, and Keanu said exactly the same thing
They could have been a power couple.
OH, YEAH?! WELL, IM TALLER!
One of my favorite one liners of all time.
"He's named Harry in Dumb and Dumber, too." Confirmed: Speed and Dumb and Dumber take place in the same universe.
"How did the bus go up?" lol. Movie magic my friend.
Dawn Marie,
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock both had crushes on each other. So it wasn’t your imagination. They liked each other a lot in real life. They still do. They appeared together in a romantic drama The Lake House, one of my late mom's favourite films. She was a big fan of both actors.
The Lake House isn't a romantic Drama, dumbass. It is a comedy mystery.
how can you not
It's the movie about a bus that had to SPEED around the city keeping its SPEED over 50 and if its SPEED dropped it would explode. I think it's called "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down".
DON'T TELL ME HOW TO EAT DONUTS!
The "oh darn" guy was Ferris Beuller('s Day Off) sick-day-off buddy.
Sandra Bullock and Keanu were together again in the sequel, but they called it The Lake House. This time, she is travelling 2 years ahead of him and he needs catch up so they can be together. Pop quiz: How will they ever meet up? What would you do?!
Always love yer infectious giddiness and enthusiasm during these watchalongs, Dawn, it's much needed, so as usual, a big thank you to you! If you want more hilarity with Keanu, I hope you try The Replacements... it's sooo much fun.
The Lake Hiuse isn't a sequel, dumbass.
One of the great action movies ever. And Dennis Hopper is such a great movie villain.
POP QUIZ HOTSHOT
😊😊agreed
Dennis was the man.
@@reservoirdude92RIP to him
One of my favorite Keanu Reeves movies ever made!
John McTiernan, director of Die Hard and The Hunt For Red October, was originally considered for directing the project, until he picked his friend, Cinematographer Jan De Bont, to make his directorial debut, after his GODZILLA movie was cancelled by SONY in 1993.
Before Keanu Reeves was cast as the hero, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kurt Russell, Jeff Bridges, Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, Richard Gere, Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez, Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson, and Harrison Ford were considered.
Before Sandra Bullock was cast as Annie, Ellen DeGeneres, Meryl Streep, Anne Heche and Halle Berry were considered.
Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, and Jack Nicholson were considered for the mad bomber.
Joss Whedon( Buffy, Firefly, Avengers) had rewritten the action scenes and dialogue.
The scene where Reeves jumps from the car to the bus was one in one take, and Reeves did the stunt himself!
11 GMC Buses were built for the movie, some for the exterior scenes, as well as the interiors as well. 2 buses were used for the Freeway jump scene, and one was used to be blown at the climax.
The film was a box office and critical success, making $395 million dollars against a $40 million dollar budget.
It won Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing at the 1995 Academy Awards.
Harrison Ford being considered twice shows just how good of an actor he is.
Ellen degeneres 😂😂😂
The chemistry that Keanu and Sandra was so good, that folks thought they actually loved each other, even to the point of Sandra being asked in 2021 why she and Keanu never dated! They did, however, each have a crush on each other when they were filming.
Wrong, dumbass. People don't think that because it is true, idiot. They DO love each other, moron.
"You might get dizzy, but you'll be alive." 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
"Holy crap! Was there any need for that?" That is essentially the synopsis of the movie
My favourite things about watching your reactions are, your pre-watch predictions and the way you suddenly start predicting the plot correctly!
This has to be the funniest pre-watch predictions
ever 🤣🤣🤣
Followed by a spot on plot prediction about Dennis Hopper (impressive)😲🤩
Another great reaction 👏👏👏

Speed 2: Run away! Avoid!
“Oh darn”- my favorite line.
"Yeah but I'm taller" is a better line than that
The reason it was better that he made the subway car speed up instead of slow down is because the movie is called "Speed". Not "Slow". (That's the sequel.)
"Where's that roundabout".. LOL So funny!
After the movie, there was a mail-away offer to order a piece of the bus (or one of the buses or maybe even the airplane). I got a tiny, unidentifiable piece of metal.
When I first saw the movie, I just accepted the bus stunt. I notice that newer viewers, probably from being familiar with clean, enhanced effects work, really notice how it goes up at the jump. That seemed to be the dividing line for its critics. It was actually filmed with the bus jumping a ramp while on a completed road, with some trickery to make it look like it was going over a gap. Nowadays, it would be a simple effects shot.
Fun fact. A few years ago, Sandra Bullock and Keanu reeves did an interview and come to find out that they both had feeling for each other while and after filming this movie. Due to being shy they both never tried to see how the other felt. So, they never got together.
"Fact"?
I have behind the scenes photos of the bus driving into the plane. My dad was an Air Traffic Controller at the airport they filmed the scene at. He took photos of the bus as it was being pulled into the plane and the explosion. The explosion was about 5x larger then they got permission to set off and damaged significant sections of the airport.
The tourist guy was in "Ferris Bueler's day off.
As, I love this movie. My college sweetheart and I saw this on our first date, and just celebrated our 25 wedding anniversary.
The most realistic thing in this movie is none of the construction being finished 🚧 🦺 😅 but we all love all of it! First & Fave KR movie watched! 🍿
Hi Dawn!🙂Somebody put on their detective hat for this film.😉If they didn't jump the track at the end, the train would have come to a sudden stop and probably would have killed them. You are right about the bus jumping across in the air. The front would not go up like that. "Speed 2" is terrible, Dawn. Only Sandra Bullock returns. It has a 3.9 on IMDb. Great reactions to the action packed Speed, Dawn!!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
15:00 The woman with the cans in the baby carriage was collecting them to get the money for them from recycling. As a kid we’d do that with glass bottles, in the 70’s we got like .05 for each one. It’d pay for comics and gum. We didn’t have recycle bins in the house, we had to take them somewhere, usually a grocery store.
17:30 maps back then often didn’t match the real world, especially if you had an older one. Work construction and you’d have to work at places that didn’t exist on a map yet. Consumer GPS wasn’t really a thing yet, was still prohibitively expensive, and still (purposefully) inaccurate.
Drink every time she says "robot bus" 😂
“How did the bus go up?” Movie physics!
'you might get dizzy but you'll be alive..'' lol this was funny Dawn.
Aaaahhh..."The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down"
Keanu and Sandra had crushes on eachother during this movie but they didn't know how the other person felt. 😂😂
The sub way car couldn't slow down because the controls were wrecked except for the convenient speed up control lol
For more Keanu I would suggest "Chain Reaction" or "Point Break".
For more Sandra Bullock "The Heat", "Gravity" or "The Blind Side".
Speed 2 exists, but it's terrible. This one, though, I love and it was great fun watching you watch it. Good job on catching so many of the clues, by the way! You picked up on the "cheap gold watch" much sooner than I did :)
Well the first Speed was good for it’s time, but it doesn’t live up today. It isn’t one of those movies that’s considered a “classic”
No! It does NOT exist!!
LA-LA-LA, I'm not listening!!!!!!
@@GarytongueBetz-vl1fu There, there, it's okay... it's all just a bad dream. :)
@@PamJernigan
Lol!
Speed 2 is terrible? 😂😂😂 Much better than the first
Reeves and Hopper appeared together in the movie “The River’s Edge” from around 1986. It was a crime drama movie centered around high school stoner metal heads. Crispin Glover also starred in it. It’s dark and gritty though.
the tourist as you called him is Alan Ruck fro Ferris Buellers day off. He was Ferris' buddy.
If you enjoyed "Speed", you're gonna love "Speed 2: Cruise Control". It's a masterpiece! 😭
One of the worst movies ever made Sandra only made it because they promised to fund a movie she wanted make.
Alternate Title) Speed 2: Norovirus.
I have seen this movie many times, as usual, your fun personality makes more enjoyable. Thank you, Dawn Marie.🥰
Another great movie from my 20s, thanks for the memories, it's really fun to see "kids" like you discover the things we were into 30 years ago.
I was 7, 30 years ago. Damn u a Dinosaur
I don't know how many of you are familiar with Ryan George's Pitch Meeting series, but I imagined him saying, "The bus went up because the movie's not over yet."
Decapitating villains is TIGHT!
My sister and I's friends around the neighborhood used to come over and watch this when we were kids after we had finished playing outside. We'd recite the lines too. So many great movies during this time. The 90s were a blast.
"Jack... You forgot your muffins".
"Oh, darn!"
"Pop quiz, hot-shot!"
"Woah, shit! Woaah, shit!"
"How did the bus go up?" Movie magic! Just go with it. :-)
A young Keanu is a sight to behold - I met him shortly after he filmed this in a restaurant - he was very polite, signed a napkin for my niece and I bought him a bottle of wine.
I love that Dawn put it together from the watch that Dennis Hopper is a cop so fast
18:47 "How did the bus go _up?"_
😄 Hollywood magic, Dawn. _Pure_ Hollywood magic, right there. As a matter of fact, _Mythbusters_ once tested that scene with scale models of the highway, the bridge, the gap and the bus. They quickly determined, with the Hollywood magic removed, it didn't _matter_ how fast the bus was going when it hit the gap. It would _crash._
Dawn is so good at figuring out movies, and guessing whats going to happen that I sometimes believe she's seen them before, lol.
I was thinking the same. She was working out the next steps to do before they even mentioned them
The gold watch thing was pretty prescient too.
Hollywood movies are very predictable...
"Gigantor" was a '60s TV show about a boy who controlled a giant robot.
16:49 "Sometimes I doubt Dawn Marie's commitment to Sparkle Motion."
Great movie. I heard that at the time of the movie Keanu lost his friend River Phonix and this movie help him deal with the grief. You should watch Other Keanu great old movies like Point Break , Constantine , The Devil Advocate and Chain Reaction.
3:50 "Oh, _there_ he is. _That's_ him. He looks so different. He's got no _hair."_
He's playing Jack Traven who's on the SWAT team, so he has to keep _grooming_ standards.
The annoying tourist on the bus was Cameron from Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Did you notice the "oh Darn" guy was Cameron from Ferris Bueller.
Dawn Marie you are brilliant. So many plot points you figured before they happened. My fav being “they need a big roundabout “ almost right away which is what they ended up doing at the airport.
The airplane that the bus blew up was a very early 707 with JT-8 engines. It was a museum piece that likely hadn't flown since the bad guy (Dennis Hopper) filmed "Easy Rider."
Hopper rose to fame in "Rebel Without a Cause," and kinda wandered aimlessly as an actor. I think one of his best performances was in "The Sons of Katie Elder," another John Wayne cowboy flick...
Sandra Bullock is a fine actor and really likable on screen. Two films with her I'm sure you'd enjoy are _The Blind Side_ (2009, for which she won the Best Actress Oscar), a feel-good sports film based on a true story, and _Gravity_ (2013, one of her many a Best Actress nominations), a space action/adventure set in the near future.
Demolition Man and Miss Congeniality are great too.
The proposal, Lost city are pretty funny and feel good movies and that was one of the kast movies where Ryan Reynolds played a feel good movie lol. And you have to love Betty White. The most iconic woman on the planet.
Sandra Bullock did not deserve that Oscar! All she played was a mom who takes in a homeless kid… there’s nothing special about that
The true story part of Blind Side is heavily in question right now as well. Sounding like they used the kid now, lots more to come out about it.
@@TimothySmiths sounds like typical Hollywood. Lots of things are coming out
Empty cans and bottles are recycled and picking them up gets you extra cash.
The Bus would tip up because the heavy engine is in the back...
Great reactions from Dawn Marie, for an awesome blockbuster movie! :)
I am glad you watched this one, it is one of my favorite action movies. Lots of stuff happening and a cool story. Super fun reaction Dawn, love your laugh and plot guesses.
Speed was inspired by the 1985 action film Runaway Train with John Voight, Eric Roberts, and Rebecca DeMornay. Voight and Roberts both earned Oscar nominations for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for their performances. The subway train sequence in the finale was an homage to Runaway Train, as well as the 1976 film Silver Streak, and the office building elevator sequence at the beginning of the film was a nod to Die Hard.
It seemed to be a nod to The Taking Of Pelham 123.
@@Deathbird_Mitch The Taking of Pelham 123 was set on a stationary train that wasn't going anywhere, which is the difference. Screenwriter Graham Yost said that his inspiration for Speed was Runaway Train. However, The Taking of Pelham 123 was the inspiration for all of the colored code names in Reservoir Dogs.
Actually it's a rip-off of The Taking Of Pelham 123.
@@TTM9691 Not really. Screenwriter Graham Yost said that his inspiration for Speed was Runaway Train. The Taking of Pelham 123 was set on a stationary train.
The tourist is also in the movie Twister, place a guy named rabbit. But you may know him from Ferris Bueller's Day Off he plays Cameron
33:42 "The tourist guy - I've seen him somewhere."
Three months ago you reacted to Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
That guy is Ferris's friend, Cameron.
A great reaction, Dawn.
This is a fun action film, the sequel isn't so good, 'Speed 2: Cruise Control' also it doesn't star Keanu Reeves in the lead role, you can react to it but it's not one which I'd recommend to be honest.
Speed:
- Bus: highway's not finished
- Train: track's not finished
Speed 2:
- Boat: sea's not finished
The actor playing the SWAT Lieutenant, Joe Morton, played Miles Dyson in "Terminator 2"
Loved the video! Great as always! The tourist guy on the phone, (Oh, darn.) played Cam in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. If you want to watch another young Keanu Reeves movie, Point Break. So much fun. Crime, action, surfing. On to the next one!
The tourist guy is the boy off of ferris bueller's day off
The bus was launched with a ramp. They jumped a stunt bus a short distance with the actors on board to get a real reaction from them inside the bus. The jump at the beginning was a composite of the stunt bus onto a empty section of road. The landing was an empty bus dropped from a platform, so the jump stunt was done in pieces.
The bus jumped the freeway gap (L.A. was still recovering from an earthquake) due to its speed and the angle of the freeway. The last scene features my street, on the left where it joins Hollywood Boulevard before they slammed a mall on the neighborhood.
At 14:33 The thing is that they don't have roundabouts in LA that is more of an East Coast thing
I heard the alternate title of this movie was
“Don’t Let That Bus Slow Down!!!”
Ok Homer
27:12 This part of the movie is written for a public ignorant of a the dead man's switch. On every train built in the US (and probably _other_ developed countries), at _least_ as far back as the 1920's, there's a _safety_ mechanism in the cockpit that the engineer has to keep _pressure_ on. If the engineer _leaves_ the cockpit, dies, or is forcibly _removed,_ the pressure comes off and the brakes _engage._
Your guess before the movie was so close Dawn.
In the beginning Harry is the guy from Dumb and Dumber and the black cop is the scientist from Terminator 2
LOL...Keanu was practically bold in The Matrix.
13:29 -- the fact that you figured that out before the heroes... Harry would be proud.
"Gigantor" was an anime, from many years ago.
Look, there's Ferris Bueller's best friend Cameron.
I love this movie lol
Dennis Hopper is incredible lol
10:03 the glass breaking wasn't planned it just happened and they left it in lol
14:50 that gets everybody lol
15:20 they tested that on Mythbusters and it did work lol
18:40 they actually made a bus that did jump so it's as practical as possible lol
24:39 one of the biggest explosions ever lol
You know, it’s taken me almost 30 years and this video to realize that, indeed, Jack *did* rip out Howard’s spine like he promised he would.
Cutest story, both Keanu and Bullock had wild crushes on each other, but both were too shy to admit their feelings. Some 20 years later Ellen the chat show revealed to each other this fact.
Speed 2 is utterly pants, one of the worst films ever made. Do Under Siege with Steven Segal, Gary Busey(Point Break) and Tommy Lee Jones which is Die Hard on a battleship. That is so much fun.
Bus went up because of Hollywood physics!
The passenger you recognized was Ferris Bueller's best friend Cameron in FERRIS BUELLERS DAY OFF.
That was Cameron from Ferris Bueller's Day Off😅
Tourist guy on the bus was Cameron in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Speed is such a fantastic movie (shame about speed 2). Keanu Reeves is such an amazing actor and an awesome guy because of the stories that people read about him that he would do anything to help out a fellow human-being. So as his character Ted "Theodore" Logan says "be excellent to each other and party on".
The bus jump clearly defies physics! In fact there was a ramp built on the roadway but no gap. So the bus leapt into the air off the ramp, landed on the road, and then they used special effects to create a gap in the roadway which didn't exist in real life. Everybody was unhappy with the stunt but they didn't have the resources to do it again.
"You know the rules."
And so do I! 🎵 A full commitment's what I'm thinking of! You wouldn't get this from any other guy! 🎵
I love the long intros cause of the great music that comes from it. A lot of the 90s and 2000s had them but now no one has patience so no more long opening credits...
Many years later it was revealed they both actually had real-life crushes on each other and never knew it.
