I got to work on his stage crew at a festival. Ended up talking to him for like five minutes just me and him. I asked if he had one piece of advice for an aspiring producer what would it be. He said: make lots and lots of cups of tea and turn knobs until something sounds cool. I’ll never forget that one.
@HappyChillmore and I'm not making this up, haha, but the first time WE talked, was for like 15 minutes, backstage at the humming bird stage. I told him, "I think I can make music that litrilly, can physically change someone's cellular structure, to be happier." He's like, you can, I do." I also told him I'm going to make better music than him, then said, not better, just different. He busted out laughing. I also told him, no matter how known, or, "big" I get, I'll never be paid a penny from anyone. He's like, " fuckin do it! We all do what we can" He gave me the biggest hug after, a long hug too. Haha.
@HappyChillmore it's weird. I'm friends with like every single psychedelic musical act. Haha. I've litrilly dosed, Tipper, Dosio, and String Cheese. I've known Jason Haan for like 10 years now. They visited Seattle as well during Sound Off tour. Met the boys in person, got to touch the car. I have a mint copy of Sound Off on Vinyl from that time.
@25:44 you can see a shot of Mike Wallis playing on the Basscouch sound system at the Black Box in Denver Colorado. As a humble nobody It feels good to see one of my creations made it in the documentary.. I am certainly a product of Tippers influence. After hearing Seldom Vile on the Critical Path album as a kid in 1999 my life changed and I went to school for audio engineering... Then in 2001-2003 I went to Shambahla music festival where I heard Tipper on a massive horn loaded point source sound system. That changed my life again and I started building sound systems. And here we are. I hope he knows how thankful I am.

It all started for me in 2010s discovering the music then witnessing the 2015 red rocks show which had the first deployment of Funktion one sound at the megalithic ancient red rock amphitheater. We were at the show the night before “excision” and his “executioner” sound rig and the f1 system blew it out of the water. I remember vividly being inside the amphitheater in the daytime for sound check and they were playing some house tracks and I could feels the bass shake my eyes in my eye sockets and you could hold a conversation with someone and it didn’t hurt your ears. The civilians working out in the amphitheater all broke out into dance 🕺 with the sound check. At that show I met a guy named Justin who told me I had to go to symbiosis a festival at a lake in California with art boats. So we went. Life changing. I basically toured the country for tipper events for the last decade. Made friends and had my life changed. Got to see him at burning man 2018 and briefly ran into him in the crowd before his set. Haven’t seen him since 2023 and got my gorge ticket but I’m only going if I can earn it and go sober. I could write a book about all the stories and trips traveling to see tipper. Maybe I’ll make a list and write it all out because I think it needs to be shared the impact this man and his music has had on my life. I literally traveled coast to coast to see him and have developed a passion for Funktion one sound as well. Hope we get to bump into each other someday soon and I hope to make gorge and maybe bonaroo happen this year. Love you Dave. -andres the kid with the glasses usually up at the front of the crowd 🤓🫨🥹🙏🏻🥰
Also shouts out to another burning man fellow named Justin (magnetic sound) who ran a huge Funktion one rig at Kazbah in 2018. He told me so many stories about the days of camp nexus. The first camp to ever bring f1 to burning man and how Dave tipper was blown away that they had brought this system to the desert. He mentioned asking why Dave would not do any encore after a set in Santa Cruz under the table with Dave at the end of the show and Dave replied “just the tip”
I listened to Tipper for 3 years before seeing him live. His studio releases are amazing, but the live shows are another level. But you can still get it without going to the shows.
For anyone wondering about the background music, the songs are from a sample pack called Spirals sold on Zenhiser. The pack includes some full tracks and was produced by Kalya Scintilla but he's not officially credited.

Omg the first 5 mins and I’m like no wayyyy this is so informative ty
Get to see him at Bonnaroo this next year. Absolutely stoked
They visited Seattle as well during Sound Off tour. Met the boys in person, got to touch the car. I have a mint copy of Sound Off on Vinyl from that time.
We see Mike Wallis in the background of those old videos. What up Mike?! Crunch Forever!
@@Basscouch jeff?!
Been waiting for you to drop a video on tip and youve killed it
Anyone here after getting tipped at hula 2024? Apparently deems and tipper=the whole crowd busting a nut. Afterwards everyone is laid out, and lost most of their shit...people were crying. Never seen anything like it...
I was back left corner of the soundboard, where were people crying?? I didn’t hear about any of that.
Im so happy I started early and have seen him perform 28 times haha! Big flex.
28 times is crazy! A guy next to me on my flight home after Orion said he had seen Tipper 45 times 🤯
Fantastic work. I was curious about so many things you coverd in this
The best of the best in my book.
Amazing!
My first time hearing tipper was this 2024 at Texas eclipse hope I can again before he is done.
July 4th 2025, the gorge. See you there 😊
First week of January in Minnesota.
lets goo - so glad i made it to shambhala this year
I wanted to go for years when I was younger but Canada doesnt let felons in.. strongly considered getting smuggled in a few times :D
These days the bigger festivals have really lost a lot of charm imo with phones, social media, etc. Now I just do small festivals and don't miss the bigger ones.
FYI he never actually played Bonnaroo it got cancelled. great job friend this needed to be done. Sick sample catch on knee pads.
He will be at bonnaroo 2025 though it was recently confirmed😁
@pauljohnson2451 if i ever needed a reason to return to the farm it's for that. The crowd is gonna be packed but it'll be amazing.
Oh snap, thanks for featuring that footage I took at Burning Man so many years ago. :)
Thank you for uploading that! It's so cool to look back on old videos like that
@@audioeats Check out this footage from our Stilldream 10 year Anniverasary. I believe it was the premiere of Broken Soul Jamboree as it hadn't come out yet. It was an honor to be around Dave during that era. Can't thank him enough for all the inspiration.

Just found your channel and damn you are doing gods work!
I’m a simple man. I see audio eats video. I click.
Awesome video!
Bro you literally are hitting all my favorites. You an i have the same taste it seems lmao.
Broken Soul Jamboree is a masterpiece.... must listen to on fungi with a good system. I love Insolito and Marble Hunting as well. Such humble genius
You finally did it!!
Dave has altered my life forever 🤟❓
goat
Just saw him at Hulaween, absolutely mind melting show.
Higgins off of Shatterbox is one of my favorite electronic songs ive ever heard, it's just a god damn masterpiece
Hands down the GOAT
I have so many of his tracks on vinyl 😀
Tipper is the fucking boss bass love his work. I hearing him since 2010👽✨️
The greatest. If you haven't seen him live, you won't get it.
I listened to Tipper for 3 years before seeing him live. His studio releases are amazing, but the live shows are another level. But you can still get it without going to the shows.
Dave Tipper is GOATED
s/o to tipper playing 2 sets in Norridgewock, Maine fall 2014 🙏 ... little did we know
some of my inspiration
interesting !!!
For anyone wondering about the background music, the songs are from a sample pack called Spirals sold on Zenhiser. The pack includes some full tracks and was produced by Kalya Scintilla but he's not officially credited.
Did Tipper just become my favorite EDM artist? Yup! 🙌 🤝🤺🍉
