When watching this, I wasn’t sure what to expect. This process of deciphering metal band logos is kind of fascinating to me, though I am not into metal band myself. This blew my mind! Good and interesting video!
This series actually got me into my currently favorite band, archspire. I saw the episode deciphering their logo and didn’t think too much of it and like a week later saw a clip of oli being silly stage and recognized the logo and though “what the hell I’ve seen it twice now, i should give it a listen.” Now I got signed records and got into guitar with the end goal of covering their music. Long road ahead
Tip, to find the origin of words, append the word etymology onto searches. For example, "sans etymology." Etymology is a field of study pertaining to the origin and evolution of language, if you're not aware.
I'd do the "Fresh" at the bottom a bit differently, because I swear I see a more defined R and a lowercase e right next to the F. edit: Thinking about it a bit more, assuming that lowercase letters are actually there, is there a reason for it? Because in a mess like this, it'd be a breeze to hide the words in all caps, so having lowercase letters seems intentional. Getting back to the e for instance, I often mix upper and lowercase letters as well as cursive, depending on which are easier to write, meaning most e's I write are lowercase, because they can be done in a single stroke while remaining easily identifiable.
I (was) also a graphic design student, and I feel the same way haha. What's even more of a challenge as a designer is trying to MAKE metal logos, because you basically have to throw every rule you've learned out the window.
It's the graphic design/artist mischievous side of "Hehehe I bet I could do this :)" verses the graphic design/artist professional side of "Oh God why would anyone DO that??" And they are both the same person.
You know, when I was younger my hand writing was often compared to chicken scratch, it’s still a bit bad, it’s just that my mind is so much faster than the pen. Little did anyone know that apparently I was a natural metal band logo savant, I should have listened to my art teacher when she said that my letters felt “alive”
For anyone wondering what XAVLEG means here you go 😊: "A Virtuous Life Exemplifies God’s Blessings, Manifesting Acts Of Faith, Forgiveness, Fellowship, And Sharing Scripture, Strengthening Souls In Trust, Inspiring Many In Worship Of Almighty Maker, Never Doubting Unity, Trust, Righteousness, Obedience, And Belief. Christ’s Word Anchors Peace While Advancing Eternal Inspiration In Prayer, Praise, Offering Hope, Faith Fulfills Forever."
I’ve always been absolutely amazed by these letterings and metal name bands, and anything resembling this chaotic mess of typography. I’m an illustrator and I’m just blown away people can actually read and draw these, anyways, I love them
My god, the meaning of their band name is atrociously absurd, and in it's absurdity it is pretty funny. They be like, so we grabbed a thesaurus and tried to find a bunch of graphic and specific adjectives for our band name.
Having people guess what metal band logos spell out is actually a pretty fun trivia category. I'd probably leave this one for the 50th trivia night, too, though.
The amount of consumed energy drinks you showed definitely explains the fact of how you got your proposed solution. Seriously how do you not have wings yet💀
I love this band unironically, and the guitarist’s other band, Vulvodynia (amazing band, with some drama). I did not think this was possible. Jfc you’re a God amongst men
I gotchu on the acronym's meaning!!! A Very Lovable Elephant Gathers Bananas, Mangos, And Oranges For Friendly Forest Animals. Some Silly Squirrels Invite The Imaginative Monkey Into Whimsical Outdoor Adventures. Many New Ducks Unite To Row On A Big Calm Water Pond While An Eager Iguana Invents Perfectly Pleasant Origami Hats For Friends Forever.
I actually love this band. For context it's a joke side project that's the brainchild of 2 bands, Vulvodynia from South Africa and Stillbirth from Germany. They have 1 4 song EP called Gore and 1 23 song album called Gore 2.0 which also contain the 4 songs off the EP. It's one of my favorite "turn my brain off" albums.
My guess is that the font was probably made long ago, before Y2K, and because they needed to save as much memory as possible, they used a shorter word from a different language that meant the same thing. Then the usage of "sans" stuck within the font creation community that surely must have existed for so many different fonts to use the same word. Y'know, that or it was made in France. I have ZERO credentials, no merit to ANYTHING I say.
@@LovesickJothat doesn't make any sense. Sans is just a word people use because it sounds cool and sophisticated, so someone just decides to use it. (Probably, we can't know for sure, but it's certainly a lot more likely than storage saving :D)
Stands for Sans Serif, a Serif is the little lines making the base/top of letters etc in typefaces like Times New Roman, which is a serif typeface, as opposed to Helvetica or Arial, which are Sans Serif
@@LovesickJothis feels like one of those "say the wrong thing so someone corrects you" things. But I'm gonna do it anyway. For a long time, French was a primary language of the upper-class for most places in Europe, including Britain. Sans was pulled into English from that, but didn't really stick around in common speech like a lot of other French words. It is technically also an English word in that sense, just like "garage", just one you won't see very often. I'm not sure where "sans-serif" came from exactly, but looking it up it looks like it started being used around the early-mid 19th century. Which makes sense, that's about when people would have started caring about serif vs sans-serif text. Interestingly, it also looks like the word "serif" in English began with "sans-serif".
In parts of the video you use so many color codes that I feel like it needs a map legend (or whatever those things that tell you what icons mean are) and that not a bad thing. I actually feel like it would add to the humor as well as understandability if there was one in the corner.
На протяжении первых десяти минут видео не понимал, почему чувствую что-то родное, акцент почему-то не спалил. А потом заметил, что ты буквально в ВК чекаешь примеры. А дешифровка просто огонь, ты машина. Я не понимаю, как можно иметь такую усидчивость и с ума окончательно не сойти
If anyone truly wants to know what the acronym is, I will try to explain it in the most censored way possible. The simple explanation: Edgy word-salad about horrible things happening to a nun as her church burns down. Here is what I can try to say a literal translation would be, (parentheses are replacing words.): Acidic (liquid that can be excreted from your lower regions) Explosion Generated by Mass Amounts of poo-involved (form of "getting down" using the hand, clenched in a fist.) and "freaky" (form of "getting down" between two men) Inside the Maggot Infested "place of creation" of a Nun (who didn't want it) Dying Under the Roof of a Burning Church While a Priest Watches and (reaches his ending from watching his first baby be born)
I'll try my best to add on in conveying the acronym whilst also trying very hard to be nice to the filter by using a mix of the actual words and soundalike wording, all dispersed with weird punctuation. Hopefully hopefully you should be able to combine the two translations. Anyways: Acidic/baggin' all Liquid Explosion, Generated By Mass. Amounts Of philly sea cull misting And sad-mystic ebb-tick sniffle-ick. odd to me, Inside The insect kid magic-confess hid tomb Of A whole s-did Nun diving Under (The Roof Of A Burning birch). While A Priest Watches And reactivates In Immense. per first, pressure Over His First. Fresh feed us ..Uhh, ..basically

Fascinating. Definitely going to keep an eye on this channel, love seeing the process you go through as you try to make these logos readable.
I can't belive someone gas actually done this i thought it was impossible
This is the final boss of metal logos
first time seeing this series, it's an hilarious idea. Impressed with the execution and I appreciate the dedication.
I looked up what it stood for...
how do you un-learn a language?
uhh maybe stopping using it
27:10 this clip alone tells you everything you need to know about this endeavour
11:40 careful man, the full name was in the video.
oh god...
JEE-ZUS.
16:12 the pure excitement of him finding another letter is so wholesome hahaha
Experiencing the solution firsthand after a week of bashing my head against a metaphorical wall was nothing short of euphoric
@OctaveIndustries That's RAW emotion right there! Hard to come by nowadays..
as a graphic design student i find metal logos beautiful but also egregious
For anyone wondering what XAVLEG means here you go 😊:
"A Virtuous Life Exemplifies God’s Blessings, Manifesting Acts Of Faith, Forgiveness, Fellowship, And Sharing Scripture, Strengthening Souls In Trust, Inspiring Many In Worship Of Almighty Maker, Never Doubting Unity, Trust, Righteousness, Obedience, And Belief. Christ’s Word Anchors Peace While Advancing Eternal Inspiration In Prayer, Praise, Offering Hope, Faith Fulfills Forever."
i am flabbergasted and in awe of this man's determination
Beautiful, just earned a sub. Holy shit the dedication is real
They be like, so we grabbed a thesaurus and tried to find a bunch of graphic and specific adjectives for our band name.
my best and only guess is it's some extremely violent act involving a women, either a mother or a child.
welp it was somewhat predictable but at least it wasn't a child
@@syprachuthere is a fetus involved
yep, it's actually hilarious how over the top it is
Having people guess what metal band logos spell out is actually a pretty fun trivia category.
Just a small thing...hide the date on your taskbar in the edit as it breaks the illusion. You're jumping back and forward in the footage
The layers of gray under pink under green looks sick
seeing you look for the linguistic origin of sans only to find sans undertale was so hilarious
7:05 I haven’t heard the “Initial D” soundtrack music for years, thank you for refreshing my memory of those fantastic tunes.
6:30 "Sans" means literally without, but in french. idk why they use french, but it is what it is
My guess is that the font was probably made long ago, before Y2K, and because they needed to save as much memory as possible, they used a shorter word from a different language that meant the same thing.
Stands for Sans Serif, a Serif is the little lines making the base/top of letters etc in typefaces like Times New Roman, which is a serif typeface, as opposed to Helvetica or Arial, which are Sans Serif
snas undertake
Saw xavleg in the title, clicked in as a new viewer and enjoyed the video! Good stuff
Welcome, and thank you for the support!
what if i make a metal logo that is Literally the first page of the bible or some shiz XD
I will not be stopping you. In fact, I would encourage it.

LETS GOOOO A LONG VIDEO FROM THIS CHANNEL FINALLY
Happy to deliver :)
The full name is about what I expected. Kinda funny to name your band that tbh
Went through the five stages of grief and then succeeded, great video
Fun fact: Xavleg has a song called Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis
It's my favourite
I think you showed the entire name in stage 3 lol
Hit me with a timestamp cuz I'm not seeing it

we went from trying to understand the Sumerian language to trying to understand metal logos

That looks exactly like my regular hand writing.
Me to me to 😅
You got me deciphering along with you, and I'm beginning to think the graphic designer doubled (some of) the words like a drop shadow💀
In parts of the video you use so many color codes that I feel like it needs a map legend (or whatever those things that tell you what icons mean are) and that not a bad thing. I actually feel like it would add to the humor as well as understandability if there was one in the corner.
Nice to know that after listening to metal for 2 decades that I can still be caught off guard by a band name
Oh they're definitely keeping us on our toes
This name looks like an acronym of deep web isekai deep down that no one knows
@@UnConstant "deep web isekai" has so much narrative potential
На протяжении первых десяти минут видео не понимал, почему чувствую что-то родное, акцент почему-то не спалил. А потом заметил, что ты буквально в ВК чекаешь примеры. А дешифровка просто огонь, ты машина. Я не понимаю, как можно иметь такую усидчивость и с ума окончательно не сойти
That acronym is uh.. something lol was dying laughing looking it up.
Halfway through this my head started to hurt... I believe this is just 1% of your pain
I knew it had the full words in it all along, a friend and I tried this years ago and we gave up after "acidic" lmao
got this vid recommended when it came out, i was 1000% sure it was gonna blow up lol. fun shit

@@BigUziVert2190 glad you're enjoying the series - and I hope your stomach has recovered!
While A Priest Watches And reactivates In Immense. per first, pressure
