  • As an Amazon Influencer, I earn from qualifying purchases. My Temptress Sweet Corn is about a foot tall and it's time to fertilize and hill it. I'm using my Hoss High Arch Wheel Hoe to hill it. The High Arch makes it possible to "straddle" tall crops like corn, potatoes and okra. This makes "hilling" a lot easier since it can be done in just one pass.
    I'll also show you how I fertilize and explain how much fertilizer I use for sweet corn.

    BEAUTIFUL GARDEN BROTHER. WE ARE SO LATE ON EVERYTHING. HAVEN'T PLANTED CORN YET. RONALD IS STILL TRYING TO GET EVERYTHING OUT OF CUPS IN THE GROUND.

    I bought some Temptress corn from Hoss too. I’m growing Honey Select for the first round and then I’m growing 3 quad sweet varieties afterwards this year.

      I planted Honey Select last year.
      It really was good.
      Looking forward to the Temptress, but HS will be hard to beat.

    I have very good luck with double or twin row corn on 30 inch rows. Takes the weather, including wind,, a lot better with slightly better yields, but higher cost of seed as you plant more. Dekalb and other seed companies like Pioneer have some really detailed studies online.

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  3 года назад

      Great tip!
      Planting on each side of the drip tape would yield more in the same area.
      I assume you have to fertilize heavier?

    • @jawick
      @jawick 3 года назад

      A little more, but the extra seeds are the biggest initial expense on a large field or garden, but it really works well in smaller gardens with enough fertilizer and water.

    Allen do we put bone meal on tomatoes?

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  3 года назад +1

      Bone Meal is phosphorus.
      Any veggie that makes a flowers and fruits needs Phos.
      That is just about everything but corn, spinach, greens, etc.
      So yes... if you're organic, use bone meal on tomatoes, beans, peppers, squash, etc.
      They will LOVE it.
      Can't tell you any specific amount because I don't use it much... I use this: amzn.to/3nEmlU6
      But, I think it's hard to burn plants with phos.

    Chilean Nitrate is great but too expensive for me. Can you try growing some of your corn using Urea instead and show us how it did in comparison with Chilean nitrate?

    I have been on your channel for years and this is the first time I have seen your wind turban. What's up with that????? Is it any good?

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  3 года назад

      It's a wind generator. An Air 402 if I remember right.
      I've had it for 20+ years.
      It finally crapped out a few years ago.
      Now, it just tells me which way the wind is blowing 😎👍

      This is my old setup: ruclips.net/video/oWQThIuP1WE/видео.html
      I had the wind gen hooked up to these batts.
      Also some solar panels.
      If you look closely under the wind gen in THIS video, you'll see the solar panels.
      They are still up there.
      Not hooked up. I need new batteries.

    Is there a reason you don't use your chicken manure as fertilizer in your garden?

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  3 года назад +1

      I use it from time to time, but I don't count on it to be the main source of nutrients.
      Especially with corn... it's a heavy feeder and if it's not enough, I won't know it till harvest.
      I'm not willing to take a chance
