Don Henley doesn't want people to record video so that no one finds out he actually isn't singing his songs. He is singing to backing tracks.
Yep, he sure is.
yup, that's actually the real reason...
I thought he was going to say that.
damn straight truth right here
You’re too kind. He’s not singing at all.
Gawddamn we've made it to the Sum 41 vs The Eagles beef era 😂🤌
Battle of the classic rock bands lmao
BEEFIN 🔥🔥🔥
one sided
At least Derek spoke up more power to him !!!
LoL
Henley doesnt actually sing anymore live which is why hes insanely aggro about phones
One of the few times during the night that he played drums during one of their final shows with Glen Frey that I was at, his drumming was terrible. I couldn’t wait for the guy that played most of the tunes for the night to get back on the kit! I could see why he doesn’t want people to video that garbage. I’d say that it would run away potential concert goers 😂.
@GotMeStumped you nailed it...
Deryck is 1 of the most relatable/halarious people I know. 😂 "F-- U Don". Too funny 😂
I always thought he was just the hottest thing.
@@kaitlyngault3987 fr tho. I think it's the hair 😂
Basically the typical spikey teenage boy look is the hottest to you..? lol @@PanaddaBradford
@@MorrisseyMuse oop-
😂..
I see him as a whiner, a cry baby.
Even though Deryck aged over the years he still has the spirit of a youngster in him, age is just a number
I love sum 41
His vocals certainly don’t show age so far! I thinks it’s because he naturally has a younger sounding speaking voice!
i know you meant nothing bad but "age is just a number" is not the way you wanna say it just fyi
_"What the FUCK is Don Henley DOING with his life?!!"_ 😆😆🤣
That is one hell of a question, mister.
Don Henley has been rumored to pull the copyright card on any youtube video he finds that plays their songs. This includes tutorials and covers. Apparently, he hates The Ataris cover of Boys of Summer because they changed one line. (Black flag sticker)
ONE fucking line change pissed him off?
You know, I'm actually a lot happier listening to their version more now. It sounds better and isn't made by a rich jerk.
@@sumspring4112 In my opinion, it's the only criticism Henley could find for that song. It's more about ego than objectivity
@@My_NagintaIsn't it like, the ULTIMATE honor for a band to cover your work?
@@sumspring4112 I'm not going to try and analyze Don's egomaniacal mind lol
@@My_Nagintain some cases, original artists can show up in your covers and parodies for extra honour.
Lazlo Bane covered Overkill and Colin Hay showed up for the final verse while Mark Knopfler offered to play guitar on Weird Al's Money For Nothing Parody on The Beverly Hillbillies
The reason is because Don Henly lip syncs a lot of the songs now and he doesn't want people to have proof that he does.
Hopefully Don sees this next time he youtubes his name. Also, F Don Henley.
Don Henley really went from Boys of Summer to, Boy, Thats a Bummer.
Joe Walsh is the fuckin' man.
Love my favorite band's frontman appreciating but also feuding with my parents' favorite band's frontman.
The most punk rock thing ever!
Don is paranoid about his live miming 😂😂
I once watched a Beastie Boy interview where The Eagles came up. And Mike D said- Who wants to be Don Henley? to which MCA replied- not him. I think that sums Don Henley up.
You either die a hero or live to be the villain.
@@annmarie3573 I really like The Eagles, I just thought it was funny when I saw it. Every time an Eagles song comes on my wife and I always quote that interview.
Don Henley has LONG been one of the biggest copyright trolls. Literally employs (at one time) hundreds of people to scour the internet for mentions of him and his garbage.
Time for south park to take him down lol
Don ain't even signing. His shit's piped in
They don't want us to know The Eagles are lip syncing.
The Eagles or just Don? I don't imagine Joe Walsh would do that shit.
@@Jasontheguitarist87 for the most part Joe still sings his parts live, but you can find clips where his high parts are lip synced, you can hear the slight tonal difference and pitch correction.
Henley has a team of at least 40 people working around the clock for copyright infringements.
Whats your point?
@@bobabooey4537 He is crazy.
It’s because Don Henley now lip syncs and doesn’t want peoples RUclips videos to out him.
As a musician the only time I would say anything about phones out is if venue staff were filming a soundcheck where we’re ironing out new tunes for maybe a new album, or working through something that could sound really rough at first. Other than that be glad people are at your show and just ignore the phones, it really isn’t a big deal. They bought the ticket, they can sleep through the damn show for all I care
You have the right attitude
I'm 68 and saw the Eagles 3 times and last one I saw a couple of years ago said the same thing .....no cameras.... in Philly.... that is Ridiculous....you are so right !!!!!
The reason they freak out about video footage is that they lip sync every song and if you took two different videos from two different nights they would lay over each other EXACTLY with zero deviation from night to night to night, proving they’re lip syncing. Everybody knows it by now, they need to get over the no video thing. It’s just ridiculous.
Do you really think that’s the reason? You don’t think it has anything to do with the distraction of 1 million phones with a super bright LED’s lights on the front when recording in the dark.
@@Bobby_Uterus the stage lights literally blind you as a performer. He can rarely see the crowd in front of him. The phones are not at all a distraction. 🙂
@@videditorEB1 And you know this from being up on a stage preforming? Or you are just speculating again? If this were true, it would be impossible for any musician to play their instrument half way decent. Tool and perfect circle both don’t allow phones during their shows. I suppose those guys are lip-synching as well?
@@Bobby_Uterus I’ve been a touring musician for 40 years, been on hundreds of stages big and small and speak from experience brother. There are many motivations for artists not wanting their performances recorded. My take on Henley’s motivations is accurate. 🙂
@@Bobby_Uterus ever seen an artist shield their eyes and ask the techs to “Bring up the house lights”? Of course you have. They need the house lights up to see any of the audience, as they are otherwise blinded by the stage lighting. Any other live show questions I could answer for you? 🙂
We've catered Eagles shows and his rider is even more particular than no brown M & M's. He's a diva for sure.
Lee Roth did something similar for Van Halen and he explains why and frankly it's pretty damn good explanation. Don Henley is still a prick though regardless.
He didn’t want his dirty laundry on RUclips 😝
This is funnier if you know the story behind that song. It’s about Don being pissed about a woman reporting on him shacking up with a couple underage teen runaways, plying them with drugs and then getting caught. Nothing screams psychopath more than finding a way to monetize your child rape
I saw don Henley over at the Ralph’s in Malibu once! I was shocked to see him out grocery shopping at Ralph’s!
I went to see Don back in the 80's at Poplar Creek outside of Chicago in the burbs...it's the only time in my life where the concert sounded like the albums....note for freakin' note. He played every song to the letter exactly like the dirty laundry we know and love.
I saw the Eagles in 1995 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Glen Fry yelled for us to find our seats or he would find his. Joe Walsh was the Saving grace for that show. Mr Walsh was a CLASS ACT!
Deryck Whibley's assessment of the changing times is balanced and realistic. Right on!
somebody is gonna get a certified letter in the mail from ol Don about this video.. hes a bitter one.
SUM 41 !!!!!
His voice sounded so great because he wasn't singing he was lip syncing.
This may be my FAVORITE video of all time and I KNOW Don Henley. I love it !!!!
By the way, the Eagles don't sing live. All the vocals you hear are playback and they're miming. Check different shows, all the same audio.
I’m sure with his decades of performing , he would have noticed that
Pleaseeee, can you come in Luxembourg !!! I can't believe we are not able to see you one last time before the end 😢
You can go to Brussels
don't think they gonna rock out the rockhal this time, brussels it's the place I think
@@MrLowsick 😢
Better call Stevo!
its the only way
Damn! Did not see that coming!! F don! (Side note, saw you guys in dublin and loved every minute of it!! You guys rock!)
I've met Don Henley a few times, (I used to do some work for his mother in her later years) and he's a nice dude. But this seems entirely in keeping with what little I know about him.
I can respect that you don't want to end up like Don Henley, Deryck, but YOUR voice has held up amazingly well. It's all our loss' that Sum 41 is ending. ❤
I've loved you since I was 12, I'm 33 now. Thank you so much, & thank you for your sobriety! 😊
一样,从初中爱到现在😢
Glenn Danzig is the exact same way. (Doesn’t want people filming and gets pissed off if he’s sees people doing it).
My friends and I tried to make a living as a Sum 41 cover band. We called ourselves 4 minus One obviously not one of us made it but man Sum 41 inspired us to be as cool as we wanted to be!!
I'm not one that keeps recording footage of all concerts long when I go to them (I record some stuff, but not too much. The other night I went to see Bruce Springsteen and I recorded only a handful of short videos, I spent the rest of the concert without the phone in my hands). That said, I'm not against phones in concerts, they can be great substitutes for ''lighters'' and I like watching footage of live shows that haven't been professionally recorded.
Jeff Lebowski was always right! Rock ON Deryck***
There's something kind of refreshing about a concert with no phones to be honest.
As a fan since Half hour of power, I can honestly say that you look and sound happier than I’ve ever seen in your career and I’m happy for you. 🤘really hope to see you maybe get into live streaming
Agreed. Went to an Eagles concert about a year ago and dealt with the same shit. Not to mention that crusty old man never cracked a smile the entire concert.
I opened up for Marilyn Manson in Portland Maine back in 2002 or 2003. No one was allowed to look at him back stage. He had security or personal assistance hold up large black sheets around him. Chevelle was also on the bill.
Had shots with Deryck in the Byward Market back in the summer of 2003. Good times.
Beautiful. Keep your damn DUMMY PHONES at home!
Good on HENLEY !!😎👍🏻👍🏻
I remember seeing Bad Religion 10 years back on their True North tour, I was a huge fan. We had 4th row tix. I was wearing an AC/DC t-shirt and to my surprise Greg Graffin stopped singing in the middle of "Land of Endless Greed", he signaled the band to stop playing and he pointed at me and said " Take the Fucking shirt off". I was stunned, he said to the audience, there's a fucker in front wearing a fuckin AC/DC shirt, the crowded booed...he then said take the fucking shirt off or get the fuck out of here! The crowd started cheering him on. I was in shock. I didn't want an trouble, next thing the concert goers behind me ripped the shirt off my back, with in seconds security grabbed me an dragged me out of the venue with my wife yelling and screaming for them to stop. At the front of the venue, there were cops, the concert security told them "this fucker was getting violent... little did they know, my wife has caught everything on her phone from start to finish. The cops watched it and looked at the security personnel, the one cop said, this is a problem. The security guy said what do we have to do to make this go away. I said a public apology from Greg at the next Bad Religion show and a hand written appology from Greg on official Bad Religion letterhead. Three says later I was flown to Seattle, first class, and half way through the show Greg called me up on the stage, he told the story and admitted he was at fault, he then apologized and offered his hand, I shook his hand and walked off the stage completely vindicated.
The moral of the story Derek, Assholes come in all shaped and sizes.
You handled that very well. Much respect Sir!
My band played a festival hosted by Arlo Guthrie over 20 years ago and met all the performers and see how they were offstage. Don Henley is one of the biggest POSes I've ever met. (And, for the record, Michael McDonald performed, and is one of the nicest celebrities I've met.)
I agree with Don. Phones ruin concerts.
I agree phones do get annoying at concerts,it's him lip syncing and ripping off fans that really sucks
You think he was being aggressive towards the audience but he was actually being way more abusive to the venue staff that very likely weren't getting paid a premium for their job description being elevated to insanity levels.
I used to be a rock writer and have interviewed all the Eagles over the years. Saw them 3 times a couple of years ago and just about the identical thing happened to me. Only dif. Was they let us take photos but no video. Great thing happened in Cleveland when I talked to the security guard. He said the Eagles guy was the only one that could get us thrown out and he was sick or something and couldn't come. He said I could care less and do whatever I want. Got killer video just for my own use, from 2nd row center.
luv it!
This is why Mojo Nixon wrote the song “Don Henley must die”.
I avoid meeting celebrities because I’ve had my heart broken a few times when meeting who I thought would be a decent person
We need an interview with you and Stevo
I have a guitar tutorial on RUclips for the intro to Hotel California. I play through the main intro very slowly at the end of the video and it got slammed with a copyright. I won't touch Eagles songs again and I know other creators are the same too.
The VIDEO clip at the end! 😂
That was a great story. So true.
My husband got me tickets to see you guys in Orlando this year! I'm so excited. I've been a fan for 24 years
“Don Henley is a malcontent”
- David Geffen on Don Henley
Other people's problems... 😉
Thanks a lot for the video! 😊👍🏻
Once a punk always a punk. Fight the power
We need "F*ck Don Henley" t-shirts.
For me, the reason I take a pic or video during a certain song, it’s cuz the song is super influential and important to me. I feel like it’s an honor that people wanna capture ur performance and watch it over and over. They wouldn’t be taking videos of you and the great time they’re having if they hated your stuff lmfao
I have some moments recorded from the time I saw sum 41! While Im not a fan of recording the whole concert, some one moments just need to be saved.
@@dylanr.7760 same here. They’re my favorite band and I’ve listened to their music everyday, so ofc I wanted to save some memories.
Another great episode.
This was crazy and enjoyable, I especially enjoyed the inserted video to the commentary 😎👌
Awesome 😂 Please keep these stories going!
This happened to me, I manged to get a free ticket to go and watch Paul McCartney at The Cavern in Liverpool in 2018. Security saying to not film inside while we are queuing to go in. We wait an hour inside waiting for him to come on stage, Paul comes on, phones go up to take pics/vids, I didn't then he said "we are gonna do a little jam to start with" so I thought I'd record 20 seconds of this jam that I didn't care about so I could enjoy every other song that I knew I'd love without staring through my phone camera. So I'm recording it, then after 10 seconds I feel someone grab my arm and pull me back, it was security, he doesn't care and throws me out of the most in demand artist in the history of music.
Careful Deryck Don Henley is probably watching.
That sucks man, dig The Eagles and my Dad loved them
Ha! Great story… Great post… Thanks!
i went to a sum 41 concert last month and he sounded just as good, if not better than the 2004 days. he put together such an incredible performance
Bravo! 💯
Rocking the boat ❤
Wow. Just wow. F don.
Don Henley would have given his concert security the instruction to shut down all phone use. The problem is, Don Henley doesnt realize that trying to stop people using their phones is like trying to stop a river flowing with your hand, aint gonna happen. Henley might have a point, that people should enjoy the ACTUAL experience of the show, instead of being so concerned with documenting it on their devices, but still, its naive to think you can stop it, and only serves to alienate him from his audience.
Great video man
You Rock Deryck!
I already knew it was some bullmess when everyone else got to have their phones out but Sven didn't.
Voice as good as ever because its pre recorded lol
right on Deryck!!😂
Had a similar issue at a Brand New concert, around 2006. This was around the time cameras on phones started to become more common. My gf tried to film a short clip on her Verizon LG V and a security guard actually dove into the crowd to snatch it out of her hand. We were teens and she was crying because that phone was pretty expensive at the time. Ruined the show. Then we tried to get it back at the end of the show and they claimed they couldn’t find it. We actually started to file a police report for assault and theft and the phone miraculously materialized. All this because Jesse Lacey didn’t want a grainy, 2006 camera phone quality, 20 second clip of a song to be played again on a 2 inch phone screen. F*ck you Jesse Lacey
Mojo Nixon was so on point
I wish that there were iPhones back In the day of Hendrix, Zep , ozzy with Rhoads, etc. to be able to watch the greatest musicians. There is such limited video of some artists that are no longer with us.
Click Tracks always sound great
Be nice to Don Henley. It's June. It's Pride Month. It's Don's month.
That's funny! Great podcast!
Wow, I love this, it feels like Deryck is my friend and he is a realistic person who would understand me :3
ahhhh what a blessing thank you very much, I could listen and look at you for hour I think :p
To be honest I do miss shows before the days of cell phones. You can't even enjoy a show anymore without a thousand assholes with their phones up in your face. Put down the phone and enjoy the show.
Sum 41 is awesome
Thank you for having the ball$ to say this and blow Don up!!! Beautifully executed man, wow didn’t expect that today!! 😆👏💯🔥🔥🔥🎯
I saw Sum 41 last month and they were great tho. I agree with Deryck
Absolutely
Awesome story haha!
Just pre ordered the audio book!
And just like that. I'ma FAN of you dude! Rock the fuck on!
Great fucking story and story teller. Buying the book for sure. Go Derek! Thanks for the show at the Iguana in 95
The horse is out of the stable 10 years ago with camera and phones. No way to put this genie back in the bottle
Ask Don Henley about the underaged girls he had doing cocaine in his house! And then wrote a song called “Dirty Laundry” because he didn’t like the news reporting the story lol I can’t stand the Eagles
